I ordered this for my mother who is in a nursing home and partially sighted to listen to audio books. She is very distressed that this doesn't work and thought she'd broke it. The placement of the batteries is very poor and the CD player is clearly faulty. I don't live anywhere near her to get it back and return it to Target. Very disappointing!
I bought this just as a method of listening to some audio CD's for study purposes. First off, the batteries are not located on the backside. Instead, they are inside the CD player itself. So you have to open the lid and open a battery compartment to put batteries in. That seems strange, especially because it encourages smudgy fingers all over the interior of the player where only CD's should touch. After figuring that out, I was able to listen to the radio just fine--which is not what I needed this for--but it won't play a single CD, whether it's a store-bought music CD, a lecture CD-ROM, or any other kind of CD that I put in there. It's likely that I picked up a single dud in a rack of excellent players, but since I opened the CD pack up beyond the 30 day return point, I won't be able to exchange it to find out. Instead I have to assume it's simply a "you get what you pay for" thing, and I won't by RCA again.
