The large mouth makes it easier to get the food out. I bought the one gallon for the dog treats which was too large but the half gallon would look too small next to the 2 gallon. As soon as opened the box my first thought was that they were a little on the large side, but once I got them all out and lined up on the counter they are the perfect size. They will hold up to two bags of flour ...the 5 lb bags...in each 1.5 gal jar. They are heavy, think glass and the tops fit very snug. I have been doing sooo much research about finding the right glass containers for my dried beans,flour,sugar and rice since coming across all the information about BPA in plastic and I read the reviews here and went to my local Target and bought just one to test it out. This is the BEST Container ever... it is 100% air tight just like our old plastic containers only it is using glass and stainless steel providing the healthiest storage for our family's food. Thank you Target for carrying items that help us provide better health for our children. I love these containers so much I have 5 of them in my kitchen. I ordered these canisters online and when they arrived at my house they were all broken. I called customer service online right away and they sent me brand new ones and they were very helpful and friendly but when the new set of canisters arrived there was one that was still broken. On the third set of canisters they were finally all in one piece! The canisters are great but i think that the way you pack them in the boxes might need to be thought out better so that they have more cushion and don't arrive broken so much! see less

I recently bought these from the rubbermaid site to organize and store my herbs. Using these modular containers I am able to store and stack in my small closet over 50 varieties! I am already shopping for more. They stack so nicely and make excellent use of the space. I love that the lids are all the same size and easy to open and replace. I use mailing tape to tape my label on and it’s easy to take off if I need to change the label. Because they’re transparent, it’s also use easy to see when I need to re order a herb. I also use them in the barn for storage of herb mixes for horses. I have dropped them many times and the lids stay on. The plastic so far has not gotten brittle from use in sub zero temps. see less

These are Great looking canisters. I purchased them in store. I was looking for a true red, so I initially passed these up online. When I saw them in the store, they really caught my attention. They are a very good looking product. Sleek. They don't look cheap. The stainless steel parts seem of quality. The window piece is made of a simple plastic. I'd be gentle when washing it. The body is like a thick tin construction. I wasn't sure what I wanted to put in these. I just really wanted nice looking canisters to display on my kitchen counter. I have popcorn kernels, rice and home made cookies in mine. I would definitely recommend this product. For this price, I'm not sure what else anyone would expect to find. see less

I bought this canister in addition to the 4-piece set. The bad reviews made me think of buying the acrylic version but I'm glad I went with the stainless steel. I bake a lot so I bought this jumbo canister specifically for sugar. A 5-lb bag fills this canister 2/3 full. I handwashed this but the smaller ones I ran in the dishwasher with no issues. The gasket seems to be glued alright. If it starts falling off then I'll just glue it myself. This is a great canister - it's pretty, sturdy and keeps ants out! see less

I bought a bunch of these when I was first married because I needed a place to put all of my regularly used baking supplies. I will have been married 10 years in May, and these are still holding up well. They still look practically brand new on the outside, and still have a decent seal. Some of the smaller sized canisters I ran through the dishwasher, even though it suggested you don't do that, and the seals come off every time I open them now. But, I can put the seal back on before I close it and it works just fine. Even some of the ones that I've only hand-washed have some issues with the seals falling off, but they still work, it's just a little of a nuisance to have to carefully close the lid each time -- not a big deal. Overall, I'm very happy with this product and in fact, am looking to replace one that I dropped and cracked the lid. I store these on top of my refrigerator and they really make my kitchen look modern and polished. see less

We recieved these as a wedding registry gift. I love the color! Matches well with other red items in my kitchen and they look fantastic on my shelf above the sink. I get lots of compliments on them. They keep everything sealed nice and tight and my items last longer in these than they would in my other canisters I had which just had loose lids. My only concerns are that the latches come out and you have to put them back in there- as in the little thin piece that connects the lid to the canister. Not a hard fix. And when I wash the canisters out every couple months, the plastic seal under the lid doesn't stay put. Honestly, they are still great canisters and I recommend buying them. The problem with the latch and plastic seal are very minor in my case compared to the style and durability of the canisters. see less

You buy a package of flour and only half of it fits, what's the point of putting it in a container? Now it takes up twice the amount of space! So I stumbled upon these and I really like them. First of all, ONE ice cube tray costs [$], so to get a set of four, you have to spend [$]. This is ridiculous! The only thing that justifies this in my mind even just a little bit is that ice cube trays are an investment that you do not have to buy often. Too bad that is not the case with these. After you have spent ten dollars to freeze water into convenient little cubes, the trays rarely release an entire cube, but rather, splinter into tiny ice fragments. Furthermore, the trays crack easily, which of course, leaks water all over your freezer, which in turn, becomes, ironically, the ice that you wanted- only now it is stuck to your freezer floor and you have to spend time picking at it to break it loose. I did not want to spend [...] in the first place. I sure do not want to spend it several times a year replacing these. see less

I don't know if the lower rated reviewer got a bad container, but this is absolutely fabulous. I find it very easy to open and close when filling it up, due to the latches on the side, which isn't always the case with a standard lid that just pops on and off. I find the opening to pour cereal from to be in the perfect spot, which has been an issue with other containers too. The height is exactly right for my cabinets. The shape on the back is easy to grip with my rather small hands. I've had it for over a month to make sure it held up, but now I plan to buy more of these. see less

I am a mom of 1 yr. old twin boys. I purchased the 16 cup container to put their goodies in as it fit better in my hand. I love that it has an overall lid seal and a smaller pour opening. The pourer is large enough that snacks and cereal and noodles will not get stuck and jammed but small enough to aim and pour into a small kids bowl. I had a coupon for 2.00 off which got me to try the product but will buy more to keep the boys goodies fresh and safe in case they get a hold of it. This will travel well as it seals good, just don't think I would trust a beverage to not spill out to some degree if tipped over as the small opening may not be airtight enoughor stay locked if knocked around. In the end, FABULOUS for kids and toddlers and dry products. Larger 24 cup will need less refills but a bit more clumsy to hold and pour says this mom. I hand wash and dry. Their father loves it for its airtight tight lid that connects on the side. The main lid will not come off by accident. see less

When you went to crack the cubes out of the tray - which was harder than expected - , you could see the plastic change color where it was bending. Within weeks, we had cracks in both trays and water was leaking out of them into the freezer. They went straight into the trash. Couldn't even recycle them 'cause they were a "5". I've had one of these for about 3 years. I use it for kitchen compost. It keeps the smell contained very well. After constant use the butterfly pinch opening has broken, and the plastic has turned a yellowish color. The silver finish shows some signs of wear but not a lot. For the hard use it has received, and the length of time I've owned it, I think it's a really good deal. I went back on Target.com to buy a new one, but either the size has changed, or the web site has incorrect dimensions. Mine measures 6.75 inches in diameter, by 9 inches tall. The description says it is around 13 inches tall by 8.7 inches in diameter. see less
