I am enjoying my pans. I have had to do some research on how to care for them though. Yes, heat them and then add oil is a good idea. That way it does not get too hot before you put in the food and splatter all over. Make sure to add the oil slowly. Cooking spray does not work the best. It tends to leave brown spots. They come off with a product recommended by Kitchenaid. I accidently got the pan too hot and the bottom turned coppery colored. I tried vinegar, baking soda, and dish soap. It would not come off. I went and got this product and it saved my pan. Vinegar works well to polish. Absolutely no dishwasher for these pans. I repeat no dishwasher!! Also Medium heat is high enough to boil water in these pans. I did wash them once in the dishwasher and they turned bluish. Vinegar polished them back up, but I will be hand washing from now on. I have been cooking for twenty years and otherwise am happy with my pans. see less

I grew up on stainless, but for the past decades I've been using non-stick pans. Now with the evidence about non-stick, I asked for new pans for Christmas. I did a lot of research on stainless steel pans and how to treat them. I learned new things in my research. 1- No dishwasher 2- Hot Pan - Cold Oil 3- [...] Just say no to the dishwasher. I used to put the oil into the pan and then heat them up. According to my research that is exactly wrong. Stainless will act non-stick if you heat the pan THEN put in the oil/butter. Foods do have a tendency to stain cookware. [...] is a dry cleaning powder that helps clean the pans to the just-like-new state. I find these pans wonderful and a good buy. Make sure you understand the difference between stainless and non-stick, and how to take care of them, and they will last longer than any non-stick pans you get. see less

Love, Love, Love this cookware!!! This is a great stainless steel cookware set. I was so tired of the peeling teflon, non-stick pans, so upgraded to stainless. This set is great! I cook everyday, usually three times a day, my cookware must be durable and easy to use. I love every piece. From eggs, soups, stir fry, rice, beans, chicken and rice, gravy steak, fudge, peanut brittle, you name it and I cook it - I cook everything you can imagine and everything turns out perfectly. These pans cook everything like an expensive pro set. I especially love the easy clean up. These pans look beautiful, even after every day use. We have an old gas propane stove which is hard to cook anything on low, but that is no problem with these pots and pans. Thank you KitchenAid and thank you Target for such a great price on this set of wonderful cookware!!! see less

No complaints! I love the variety of saucepans and skillets. Everything you need. Clean up is a breeze. They heat up quickly and are high quality. Not what I'm used to with a non-stick cookware set. I get a lot of compliments on my cookware. I am careful only to use plastic or bamboo utensils while cooking or serving to protect the non-stick surface. I highly recommend this set! They heat up quicker than my old T-fal set did. I'm using lower heat settings which is better for the cookware. see less

I bought this roasting pan to cook whole chickens for my family for a quick and easy dinner, but have also used it for oven roasted potatoes (YUM). In the two weeks since I recieved it from Target.com, I have already used it 3 times! It cooks evenly, has plenty of space, a removeable roasting rack, and great handles! I especially LOVE the nonstick surface! Even "cooked on" day old food rinses right off for a quick and easy clean up. For busy Moms who don't always have time to wash every dish right after a meal like me, you know how great this feature is! But every single time I've used it, I've tried 3 times, it has over flowed water everywhere when I try to remove the colander from the base. I think that it is possibly the shape of the base and that the space between it and the colander is not enough to allow the water to properly drain. It is totally un-usable... Here is my only issue, this is not a complaint or issue with the grill.After buying this round grill i bought the 8X11 grill pan press also by calphalon and tend to use it instead for the sole purpose that im only one person and dont need a 12" round grill. I use this saucepan nearly everyday to cook various things from oatmeal to bechamel to steamed vegetables. After two years, the pan still looks fantastic. Silicone handles mean I don't need a towel to grab the hot pan or top. My only gripe is the lid. The metal ring around the glass lid angles inwards to fit nicely with the saucepan. Depending on what you're cooking, however, food can get caught at the angle formed between the glass lid and the metal ring...a real pain to clean. see less

But we moved and have a new gas range so silicone handles on our pots is KEY but also the base surface area needs to be larger so the heat goes into the pot and not up the sides causing liquid to sizzle and steam when stirred. I have had this stock pot for about a year and half and it has been great. I have cooked everything from ice cream to seared meat... i have even tossed it on occasion, passionate cook. It cleans up well as long a you get water in it right after you are finished cooking. It has really stood the test of time and i am very pleased with it for the price ..... which i thought was really expensive until i began researching stainless steal cookwear. This is my first peice of cast iron. I was looking for something to last. Cast iron takes special care because it can rust if left wet, or if you leave food in the pan it can remove the seasoning (esp. tomato!).At first, the pan was a little tricky to cook in. Most things stuck to the bottom like crazy eventhough it's pre seasoned. But what I did was re-season between cookings once and a while and fried a bunch of stuff like bacon, potatos, meats, etc. and I use a metal spatula to scrape off the stuck on food. Don't use a plastic spatula because you could melt it onto the pan. After each use, I scrape clean with metal spatula, or rub with oil and salt with a paper towel. I'll wash it with soap and water only if I cook something with a sauce or if it's really difficult to scape off. Make sure you dry it completely by burning it on the stove for a few minutes. Then, just wipe the pan with olive oil and that's that. I noticed that veggie oil can become too sticky in a few days so I use olive oil.Nothing sticks to the pan now, not even the eggs. I've had this skillet for about 6 months now. I love it. At $19.99 it pays for itself because it will be years and years before you'd need a new one...If well cared for, maybe your grand kids will be using it. see less

Sturdy, with nonstick coating and good balanced weight to conduct heat is what this nifty saucepan offers in spades. A plus is an insulated handle. A glass lid is not necessary for me, but it does the job in case you forget what is in there simmering. I put it in the dishwasher too, though I am not sure if that was recommended. It also has a nice look and silicone handle. Purchased this griddle last night, used it this morning. Worked well. Before using it, I rinsed it with warm water, then slathered coconut oil on the flat side, which was the side I was going to use today for making pancakes. Heated the griddle up nice and hot on the stove, wiped off the excess oil, and then let it cool down before using a few hours later. When I used it, we did slather it with butter and coconut oil, to work on really building up the seasoning. see less

I have ruined many nonstick frying pans in my live and finally learned my lesson. Now I never use more than medium heat, always use a plastic turner, and don't use cooking spray, only oil. I also watch the pan closely at first so it does not overheat the oil. This Kitchen Aid Hard Base frying pan I used heavily for over one year now, it is the best one I ever had! It has also the right weight, not too heavy. see less

No non-stick skillet lasts forever and I expect to replace them, but the quality and price for this item is excellent. I am always shopping for this type of skillet and this is the heaviest, thickest, and best even cooking non-stick skillet I have found. The handle is very comfortable. The shiny aluminum outside will dull and scratch, but only cosmetic and I am interested in function. It will not heat up as quickly as a copper skillet, but I would not pay for a copper non-stick skillet, and I do have lots of copper skillets and pans. The outside of colored non-stick skillets always wears off and gets stained with burned on food or grease, but at least the aluminun can be scrubbed with[...] and you can get the grease off. I expect to have this as long as any other non-stick skillet, but will not heat the pan on high, nor use other than wood or soft rubber or silicone tools, nor put it in the dishwasher. No non-stick skillet is suitable for high heat. see less

The handles are comfortable, the non-stick surface works, and they are easy to clean. Don't put these in the dishwasher, handwashing them is a breeze. I am a BBQ'er, I have a gas grille and a charcoal grille in my back yard. This pan is great on those days that it's too hot or cold to go outside. It grille's great chicken, salmon, and vegies. YOu will get perfect grille lines on the food and it heats evenly, you can get it really hot and it's still easy to clean, and it doesn't scratch. Well worth the money! i totally agree with last review. the pot is easy to clean, food doesn't get stuck but the lid rim is different story. i use this pot at least twice a week and every time i have to scrub 3 times the lid rim because food gets stuck on it. otherwise i'll give it a 5 stars. see less

I bought this pot ~3 months ago and have only used it occasionally because of its flaws. It conducts heat evenly and quickly and I can pour out of it with no drips, BUT:- The lid LEAKS because the glass and metal around the rim aren't sealed together. Watch out for hot water leaking out of the rim!- The silicon grips don't stay cool at all if you cook at maximum high heat- It's hard to clean the inside rim of the lid because of the way the it is designed... so even though I've only used it a few times there are still bits of food stuck in the rim.I've heard good things about Calphalon before, so I'm really disappointed that this was my first pot from them. I hope their other products are a lot better. see less

Bought this in my local Target store about a week ago, and I compared two other 8 inch non-stick pans and decided to buy this one, the most expensive of the lot, about [...] in the store. It doesn't sit flat on the stove or the counter or anyplace else! Everything liquid in the pan slides over to one edge, the thing literally tilts! Either this particular pan is defective, tho it looks just fine when you try to see any defects, or the whole lot of them are defective. Of course I do not have the receipts, and I will try to bring it back and get my money back, but this just annoys me as it was a big waste of time, and possibly money too. I received these as a wedding gift and they are quite the step up from my old set. The heat seems to be very even from the first couple of times that I've used them. The style is slightly different than your "every day" set, so that is a nice bonus if you're looking for something different but not too flashy. The reasons I didn't give 5 stars- -The 10-inch skillet doesn't come with a cover - it's not the same size as the stock pot, so that one can't be used, which I thought was weird. That piece is sold separately from the set - and not at Target. - And the Target description lists "non-stick" as a product attribute, but the box doesn't have any mention of that. So I'm unsure if they're non-stick, but I haven't had any issue cleaning them so far although I haven't really burned anything in them yet. Other than that, so far these seem like a very good gift! see less

I purchased this pan after moving into a furnished apartment that was not equipped for me to cook for a family of six. I already had a large skillet in storage and debated buying a more expensive skillet vs. a cheaper one until I got it back in a few months. I am so glad I decided to buy this pan! I've used this pan almost every night since I bought it. I really like the two small side handles instead of a really long one. It fits in my sink and makes washing easier. The small handles also make it easier to serve when I put it on the table - no one has to avoid a long handle. I try really hard to use only nylon utensils in the pan, but the 2 - 3 times I used a metal utensil, very gently, it held up and didn't scratch. I've used it in the oven too, and it works great. This pan cooks evenly over the entire surface of the skillet. When I get my original skillet back from storage, I will still use this one for most of my cooking needs. see less

The only drawback is that it is only available online and the original pan we received had a defective lid, we returned the pan to our local Target store and reordered it online. I am rather difficult to please when it comes to cookware. I also don't like to spend a fortune for a decent product. This one is great. Heat distribution and the non-stick surface are really good. No more sticking. As a note, when I bought the product, the label clearly stated NOT DISHWASHER safe, so don't put it in the dishwasher. It is SO easy to hand wash, it really isn't a problem. Love the product. Now, if I can just find a proper lid for it. I'll be buying the other sizes in this line too. see less

I love this frying pan. The non-stick finish seems to be very good, but I can find no information about it to know for sure how it is made. I wanted to be sure that it is not teflon now that I am aware this is so bad. I washed mine in the dishwasher and the outside finish is ruined. I got this for free when I bought a 10 piece set of Kitchen Essentials from Calphalon cookware over a year ago. I use this pan almost every single day. Nothing sticks. The finish has darkened a little on the inside and the outside but it performs beautifully. It cleans with just a wipe from the sponge. Sometimes I have to scrub the rivets a little. The only drawback is that you cannot use it on high heat and so cannot stir fry things in it, but I will definitely come back for a new one if it ever wears out. see less

Nice shape, great lid, interior finish great. Exteior had huge, numerous scratches all around the pan. I don't know if just poorly handled in preparation for shipment, or if part of issue is exterior finish is poor. Maybe both. I could not accept it, and didn't reorder after return, as concerned another would be delivered in same condition. [...] see less

I just bought this pan last night, so this is more of a short term review, but it was everything I hoped it would be after struggling to find a good omelet pan. The shape of the pan helps the eggs fluff up wonderfully and encourages the egg to pull away from the sides nicely. Even with no cooking spray or oil, I was able to make a beautiful omelet without the egg tearing or sticking at all. Cleanup was a breeze-- just make sure to dry right away to avoid water marks. I would purchase this pan again in a heartbeat. see less

As soon as I brought this home, I tested it on my portable induction cooktop. There is not enough steel in the pan for it to work with induction cooktops. Sadly, I had to return it. I looked like such a great pan. see less

This pan works great for everyday cooking. It heats evenly and cooks well. I'm not sure why other reviewers are worried about the aluminum core. It's surrounded by stainless steel so there shouldn't be any chance of aluminum contamination in your food. If you have an induction cooktop, then yes, this might be a problem. see less

I have this pan plus several others in the stainless steel series. [.......................]. I also have the stock pot, saucepan and larger skillet. My problem comes with the fact that I want 100% stainless - no aluminum - and the label and signage at Target all state stainless steel. It isn't until you look it up online that you discover there is an aluminum core. :( I've had this set for two years and only just now see this online. Very, very frustrating for those of us who are trying very hard to avoid all aluminum in our cookware!! see less

All of my cookware is Calphalon - mostly expensive Calphalon Commercial pots and pans. I have some Simply Calphalon cookware which is similar in price and quality to the Kitchen Essentials line. I purchased the Calphalon Kitchen Essentials Stir Fry pan at a Target store, but it doesn't come with a lid. The pan is stainless steel on the outside and non stick inside. The lid is a perfect match with the same handle that is on the pan. I purchased this lid online to cover the pan so i could bring it to the table and keep the stir-fry warm. The lid does not fit well at all. While carrying the pan with the lid on it, the lid sways and slides so that it it would easily fall off if it were not carried carefully. Otherwise, it does the job as expected.Disappointed that a 12" cover and a 12" pan that are exact matches in style and model (Kitchen Essentials) wouldn't be better suited for each other.Especially since the pan cost $50 and the lid $20... see less
