I purchased this desk over a year ago on sale at my local Target. I wanted to leave my thoughts after seeing a few negative reviews. I have been extremely happy with the desk. The surface is smooth but not overly painted or varnished. The keyboard tray slides smoothly and hinges shut well. The quality is sturdy, much better than I expected. It looks just as nice today as the day I bought it. I am purchasing the coordinating side tables to go by my sofa. see less

The package arrived two days earlier than the expected delivery date in my order confirmation. No missing pieces at all, but one did have some white missing on the edge and the inside particleboard was showing--about a 1-inch square section--but that portion wouldn't be visible unless you lie on the floor and look at the underside of the desk, so I didn't take issue with that. The desk was very simple to assemble by myself and probably took less than an hour to do so. I do wish I had reinforced the wooden dowels with wood glue as some parts were wobbly during assembly, but after the whole piece was put together it felt a lot more solid. Would I sit on it? No. But it does a great job as a desk--which is exactly what I wanted. After building was complete, I did notice a few gray marks on some corners but I'm not sure if they were already there or happened during the build. I recommend assembling the piece on a rug or carpet and move it later. Overall it's a great value! see less

I LOVE this desk even though it is that particle board material but it is more dense and stronger than the furniture you can get at [other retailer]. That color is very dark which is just what I was hoping ,almost looks black, Easy to assemble myself, no damage, sturdy, and compact, but it holds EVERYTHING. Absolutely love this desk! I was hesitant to buy it because so many complained of having the desk arrive damaged but I pushed my luck. Came in perfect condition. The box wasn't even damaged surprisingly. You have to walk up at least 50 concrete steps before you even get to the front door. Good Job UPS! Other than that, the desk is beautiful. I was looking for a desk that had plenty of room to fit accomodate my macbook, a few open books and notebooks and this desk is exactly what I was looking for! more than enough surface space. I ordered this desk hoping it would not look too cheap. It is one of the lower priced desks out there that uses a drawer to hold the keyboard. When closed up it looks like a very clean, sleek piece of furniture, costing far more than what I actually paid. Simply attach four legs and a drawer knob and it is done! Truly beautiful AND functional. Wish I could rate the value at a 10 rather than a 5! see less

Word of caution, the drawer assembly could be tricky make sure you test it SLOWLY tracks can scrape sides of the varnish or paint rather easily. Look. Have been shopping around for a desk for a while, long & deep enough that would hold books, papers, lamp & a laptop with enough room for other things as well. Can be versatile as entry table. Recommendations. Was looking for lighter shade of wood .oatmeal, caramel colored, etc. BUT! Because it's so sleek & stylish I actually LOVE this deep color a lot & wouldn't change it. All I used was a flat head screwdriver and a portable screw gun with a phillips head. All the parts/hardward was included in all 4 desks. I didn't have any problems. We needed something to bring our TV up a few more inches. At first we considered building a box to set the TV on, but it wasn't going to match our Avington furniture. While browsing the other Avington pieces online, I came across this hutch. We took measurements and headed to Target to buy this piece. It was easy to assemble, and took us about 20 minutes. Thanks to another reviewer we knew to be extra careful to make sure that the finished edges were facing outwards before tightening the cam locks. We are using this piece on top of our Avington media stand, even though it was made for the Avington desk. I didn't like the look of the small adjustable shelves, so we left them out and put small baskets in the cubbyholes instead. All together with an Avington bookshelf on each side it almost looks like one wall unit. We are so pleased with our purchase, and can now see the TV from any seat in the room. see less

Its design more appealing than on the pictures on Target.com. When we received the first box, we were not sure what to think. A day or two later the second box arrived. Everything was intact. The pieces were clearly marked, and the directions were complete. We took another reviewer's idea and switched the two sides. Even then, it went together quickly. I really like the elevated corner shelf for the monitor and the separate cart for the PC tower. I luv it so much that I now have 2. I bought the first one about 1-1/2 years ago to work from home. And because it works so well for what I need it for, I bought another one for my personal computer. I have my small TV on the little corner shelf and the VCR underneath. It probably took my husband and I a few hours to put it together but we went slow and were deliberate with the directions. And we set it up opposite from what the photos shows -- it is possible! I like a lot of horizontal space to spread out my work, craft supplies, etc. and don't need a hutch with little cubbyholes which can be useless for me. I am so glad I finally bought this desk. I have been eyeing it for months and when it went on sale, I pulled the trigger. It is absolutely beautiful, and so functional with the built-in shelving underneath. I bought the black Avington banker's chair to go with it and it is just beautiful. Another feature that I LOVE about this desk is how large it is. I bought it because I will begin working on a dissertation soon and wanted a desk with lots of space for papers, books, laptop, etc. This will definitely do the trick. When I'm done with school this desk will be an excellent workbench for arts and crafts. Only a couple of cons, like other reviewers mine arrived with a few nicks and scratches on the edges, but it was nothing a Sharpie couldn't fix! Also, the surface does indeed scratch easily so I recommend getting one of those workstation mats for your laptop or keyboard. see less

Found the style of this desk to be a exactly what I was looking for... wanted something simple that would go with anything. My plan was to convert my daughter's old bedroom into a computer/guest room and when I ordered it I had barely begun. It sat in the box for 3 months until I could get everything vacated. I couldn't get my new room painted fast enough! The only downfall was when the time came to actually assemble it, I discovered that the center "bar" underneath the tabletop was broken. I figured it was a quick fix and my father-in-law took care of it with no problem. The assembly was quite easy and after we flipped it right side up, discovered a small blemish in the finish. Fortunately, that was towards a corner so I figure I will be able to cover it up with a lamp or something. Neither of the 2 issues would have been worth repacking for return. All in all a very good looking piece of furniture for the price, especially if you watch for it to go on sale! see less

Desks at twice or more the price didn't have such a positive following. I assembled it in around an hour by myself. I ordered this item not sure I would be able to assemble it alone. The parts are clearly labeled and the screws, etc are individually bagged and labeled. It even came with the screwdriver needed. The directions are clear with pictures. This was so easy to assemble, that my 5 year old helped!Now that the cart is assembled and I have had it for a few weeks, I love it! I keep my laptop in my family room. My husband hates all the accessories to the laptop being in the family room. I hate leaving the room to go get them. This cart stores all the CDs, thumb drives, books, boxed sets [.....], etc for the laptop. I even put my digital camera, camcorder and all the parts for it in this cart, including headphones. The only problem I have with it is that it is too high, even at the lowest setting, for me to use it while sitting in my recliner. The adjustable height is nice for when I use it elsewhere because I can adjust it for the height of the chair I am in. With it at its lowest setting, my 5 year old can stand in front of it and use it comfortably. He is around 4 feet tall, so the laptop cart hits him exactly where it needs to for him to be on it while standing. The fact that it has wheels makes it easy to store out of the way when I am not using my laptop. This will come in handy when my infant starts crawling.I would definitely recommend this cart if you are looking for an easy assembly and storage for your laptop. This cart wouldn't be good for major work to be done on it. There isn't any space for you to use the top of the cart as a surface for writing if your laptop is on it. see less

I love this desk! I have a small space that it fit snuggly into. I use a laptop for my workspace that fits on the keyboard pull out perfectly. I also have enough space under the desk for a fullsize all-in-one photo printer, paper shredder, file box, and my computer chair fits nicely under the desk. the drawer isn't huge, but a good spot for extra cables. The quality is alright and the particle board is denser than most, the veneer finish looks great, however it is prone to scratching easily, I actually had a piece of glass cut and beveled to lay on the top of the desk to protect the work surface. Still great though, it's very sturdy, more than I thought it would be. It also took about 30 mins to assemble the directions were visual and clear and I liked that the hardware was labled according to the step of assembly you were on, I would def recommend this desk, I do love mine! Was in the market for a new desk, a smaller one but that could fit a lot of stuff. This desk was perfect! It looks great, easy to assemble and I just happen to catch it on sale when I bought it. The slide out platform on the left side of the desk is handy if you have a scanner, which I don't, but have instead used it for frequently used items (i.e., envelopes, blank media, etc.). The platform might be a downfall for others if they don't have a scanner, but I think it's great and convenient! see less

This is a nice, small desk. We were looking for a small desk to put in the office area of our retail business. The dimensions seemed good. It arrived as indicated when the order was placed and it was pretty easy to put together, did it myself (female) in approx 2-3 hours. The color is pretty and the design is simple, the drawers move nicely in/out, no hang ups or sticking. However, it is too small of a desk for us to use as we need and ended up buying a larger desk. The space between the cubbies on the left and the drawers on the right is too small to push in a desk chair on wheels w/ armrests. The space is only about 20 inches wide. A regular 4-legged chair with no armrests slides in fine. Now the desk is at our house, fit right in the back of my 4Runner. It is a heavy desk for its size and we were concerned about its stability when moving it. There is no support down low between the two sides and it kind of felt like if we weren't careful, the top could snap. Overall this is a great desk for the price but didn't work for our purpose. If I knew it was going to end up in our house, I would have bought a wood desk vs. laminate but it is a nicely constructed and good looking laminate. It doesn't look cheap or seem like it will peel. see less

And the drawer on the side is perfect, i keep my highlighter and pen and pencil in there for when i study. I was pleasently surprised with the desk...all the pieces were with it, there were detailed instructions and I didn't need any fancy power tools. It took me about 2 hours from start to finish and the only thing I didn't love were the details on the bottom of the legs are actually little plastic covers that slip on so I went without and I think it looks even better! I like the interesting design of this desk, along with it being a good use of space, giving you 2 drawers, 1 large and 1 small, along with two open shelves, again 1 large and 1 small. It also has a built in hole to snake your wires though which is a nice touch. It went together pretty easily for my handy husband and his cordless drill and he felt that it was well made, and he is a tough critic of furniture that you have to put together! After searching for a portable laptop desk for quite sometime, I found this one and it looked to be very promising. I have a real desk at home that I use but was in real need of a portable desk. I love the fact that it folds up nicely and will fit in my laptop bag with my laptop as well!! The height is completely adjustable and the tilting part is ajustable as well. The mouse pad area is really nice because I'm not a big fan of touchpads on laptops and use a wireless mouse instead. Not many laptop desks have an area for a mouse to be used, so this feature is great. The fan is powered by simply plugging in the USB cord to your laptop, which is soooo much better than a battery operated one. It's very sturdy and everything locks into place so it won't break during travel. When the whole thing is folded up, the entire desk itself locks so it won't open up unless you press the release button. My laptop is 15.4 inches and fits just fine when fully opened and I still have plenty of room for my mouse. You don't have to use the legs on the desk unless you want/need to. I absolutely LOVE this desk. I've even used it at home from time to time. All my friends are jealous of how awesome this product is. I'm rating this a 4 because of one thing. The tilt feature dosen't work very well. Maybe my laptop is too heavy or something, but my laptop keeps sliding off. It doesn't really bother me because I don't need that feature so much. The price may seem a bit high for an item such as this one...but I feel it was money well spent. see less

I think you get what you pay for with this desk. It is very solid, rigid, and the finish seems to be very durable - no cheap glued on panels. It is very well packaged. I disagree with the other two entries mentioning no pre-drilled holes. Everything fits together with cam-lock mechanisms. There are some additional screws they give you for redundant support. They only penetrate about 3/8" - in inconspicuous areas, so no predrilling is necessary. I would absolutely recommend using a cordless screw gun to help. A couple of minor negatives are vague directions when it comes to desk and drawer assembly. The file drawer and keyboard drawer have anti-pullout mechanisms and are a bit tricky to assemble, but they do work. Just be patient and be careful not to damage the desk when attempting to assemble. Id say an experienced/savvy assembler is required for this one. I am very happy with this desk. Im glad I didn't settle for a cheaper desk. see less

This desk looks beautiful, but trying to get it put together is a lesson in patience. I have had to reorder several pieces because they have not been drilled correctly, and the file drawer does not slide correctly. I am still waiting for the parts so I can get it fixed. It is nice to look at and use (those parts that are working correctly), but DEFINATELY NOT WORTH THE PRICE!! I needed the desk to be useful immediately, but keep finding mistakes in the manufacturing. But for the size, it offers lots of storage and the executive hutch works great with it. The drawer has no tracks, it just fits nicely in the slot. The door underneath came already on its hinges. The flip-down front is attached by two metal pins. I wasn't expecting to find the wood parts without scratches or bumps, nor was I expecting to find manageable instructions for assembly, especially for this price. But, I was pleasantly surprised! Within an hour and a half, it was constructed--I'm pretty handy with self-build stuff from department stores--and was put in my little corner of my bedroom thanks to furniture sliders--I'm a short, petite woman. However, it's not really heavy. I'm using this as a little desk for my bills and laptop. It holds all my office necessities and keeps things out of sight. This is a keeper!
