I've had this table in my house for 2 years and it's worked very well. I put it together in one night, it wasn't that hard to put together. My kitchen is pretty small so the slide under stools are great. I've had to go around and tighten the screws twice. The stools have become wobbly and just recently the black panelling on the corners has started chipping, but for [$] I think it's a great buy. I'll probably buy another one soon. see less

Last spring I purchased a townhouse that was built in the late 60's, which I have been renovating during the past year. Since I would rather order takeout than cook, I delayed doing anything with the dining room as it was much easier to dine in the living room while watching tv. However, once I discovered the retro pub set on the Target website, I thought it would be the perfect solution to having the same contemporary styling that is found throughout the rest of my home.The dining set fits perfectly next to the window that overlooks my back patio & the adjoining green commons area. It feels like my dinner guests & I are now dining at a chic bistro with a view. The ability to easily adjust the height of the stools allow my guests to eat in comfort. I needed the table as small as possible and it also had to accommodate a wheelchair so my daughter suggested removing the drop leaves. I was looking for a value priced dinning room set, and this fit the bill perfectly. I really like the color, style, and the fact that the table is expandable. If dining alone it can be left in the folded position, however, if your accommodating one guest you just "slide" and "flip open. When in the expanded position there is no crease, and the table remains sturdy as you position the table to where the base moves, providing excellent support. Also, the small storage space underneath the table is a nice touch. There isn't a huge amount of space, enough for a folded table cloth, place mats, candle holders, napkins, hidden cash -LOL- and other table accessories. Assembly is a snap for one person, and the only tricky part is table leg assembly, however, use the box and you will be good to go. Total set up time took under 45 mins, and thats really taking my time, in no rush. Moreover, you really dont need two people to accomplish this task. Overall, solid table for the price. see less

I searched online and in stores for months for a small but functional dining room table because my dining room is small, 6' by 9'. This table and chair set is PERFECT! I always have the table top expanded and the storage underneath is a great functional feature! I've sat in the chairs for extended periods of time during get togethers or doing work and they are comfortable. Due to where the four legs are supporting the table, there is a generously amount of leg room when seated and when swinging around to get in and out of your seat. After reading a lot of these reviews, I was extremely skeptical about this table. But after seeing it in the store, I pulled the trigger. It just looked great. Not a "veneer" looking cheap piece of furniture. I did however have my drill and hammer ready and waiting, prepared for a headache to put this thing together. Have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. Everything lined up perfectly and I had it put together in 2 hours. I am SHOCKED at the construction of this table considering the price. It is solid and sturdy, and I couldn't be happier. I promise you, neither you or your guests will look at this and think "cheap." I looked at a table just like this at another store for double the price, and after inspecting it, I could literally not tell a bit of difference. If you need a table like this, just do it. I love this table! Some of the online reviews had me quesitoning the quality, so I bought it in-store where I could view a pre-assembled model first. the color is rich and everything is solid, if assembled correctly. All of the pieces I had fit together perfectly and I had no problems putting it together. I recommend two people and a power screwdriver though. Some holes are not drilled, on purpose, so screwing them in by hand without a power screwdriver might call for a bad review! Holes do not need to be pre-drilled, the wood screws will bite in once started. The instructions are a bit cryptic in some places, so some might have trouble with assembly. Also, the dimensions are listed online and on the box. It is not counter-height or bar-height, but a little taller than a standard table. Personally, I love the height! All in all, it's a great value! It is a beautiful color, sturdy and not too small. It makes our apartment look richer and provides a great place to dine! see less

I recently purchased this table and chairs set for my apartment in New York City...needless to say, SPACE is an issue...and I could not be happier! First of all, this set is NOT flimsy, rather it is surprisingly heavy and VERY sturdy. Despite other reviewers who complained that it was difficult to assemble, I had absolutely no issues getting this all together. One thing I would always recommend when assembling any wood product, even though the instructions dont mention it, is to use wood glue wherever the wood surfaces meet up before nailing or screwing it together. This will help make if practically indestructable. Another thing that may help people decide if this is the right table for them is to know that when both drop leaves are put down, the table top sticks out from the wall 24 inches. Overall, I would say this is a very stylish and durable set. Let me know if you need help putting it together, lol... see less

This is a really nice table & chairs set. It does not look cheap at all & is very easy to clean. It was easy to put together as well. The only thing I don't like is that the chair fabric is hard to clean if you spill something on them (it will leave a spot when you wipe up whatever spilled). I have a 2 year old and sit her on a towel in order to keep the fabric clean. Otherwise, this is a great product & I would recommend it. see less

I am very pleased with this set. The table is more of a cherry oak than oak but it's a warm color & does not clash with anything. The table is sturdy as are the chairs & assembly was time consuming - I did it alone - but not difficult. The leaf is an added bonus to be used when entertaining & the kitchen table becomes the bar. In the interim, it's easy to store & is protected in the box it arrived in. I'm not sure if it's UPS or How Target Packages their product, or just the manufactor. My table came with a few scratches and a dent in the wood. I will be getting a black marker to try and cover the imperfections!!!! The product is good quality, the chairs are absolutely goregeous with the cross back and the cushion feels like memory form. after it's all put together it really does compliment. The product will take a good while to put together, so be prepared to spend some time putting it all together......... 4-5 hrs see less

The table itself is great. A little small, shows marks from anything that touches it and is a little hard to clean. But doesn't scratch easily, is durable and looks great. Chairs are a pain!! They don't go together easily and the wood cracked when I was trying to get one together. Too many different types of hardware. And the tool to put them all in isn't easily used. Not super sturdy. Cushions are comfy and they look good. Just attempting to get them together right. You have to force the wood to match up and I'm worried it'll crack and be junk before it's all said and done. see less

I bought this table for my kitchen to use as an island. I had extra space in my kitchen and it needed something, but a regular island made from cabinets would have been too much. It was easy to put together and it looks very substantial. Looks like it should have cost more. I like the fact that the bar stools fit underneath the table and out of the way. It is bar height, which is taller than cabinet height. The color is a rich deep brown stain and matches my hardwood floors perfectly which are stained English Chestnut by Minwax. We had bought three different sets all from Target and we liked this one the best for the space. I wish I could post a picture! see less

It would work perfectly in my breakfast room. The first shipment, the corners were split on the table top. The second shipment, the table top had a deep scratch about 8 inches long. This set is an attractive combination of light pine tops and dark painted legs. The pieces are solid wood and look very sturdy. Assembly was pretty easy. The chairs went together in about 10 minutes each, with only the included Allen wrench necessary to assemble them. The table took a little longer, and required a Phllips screwdriver. It took me a little time to puzzle out how the 4 supporting pieces for the leaves should be oriented Then I realized the hole should be positioned so you can use it to pull the piece out with your finger to support the leaf, duh! Downside is that one leg of the table seems a little shorter than the others so it wobbles a bit, but I can fix that pretty easily. Also one of the holes for the chair legs wasn't drilled all the way through, again not a huge deal. And there was a rather large insect inside one of the screw holes on the table when I unpacked it... eek! Overall a very attractive set at a great price and looks like it will last a long time. see less

Was very excited to get this table and chair set to supplement table space for a large family holiday dinner. In the middle of dinner while using this set for the first time, one of the chairs collapsed. Luckily, my cousin, who weighs less than 190 lbs. was not hurt when he fell backwards to the floor. I think there is a flaw in how these chairs are designed. I really liked the way the table was designed, folding nicely to a manageable size, but the chairs are scary. I have had this set for 2 weeks now and it is perfect for my kitchen. I did add a piece of plexiglass to the top and conditioned the chairs with scotchguard so I'm all set. It is easy to put together but as mentioned you do have to pay attention when attaching the seat frames. All the holes in the frame need to be pointing up so when you put in the cushion for the seat, the screw will go in. Without any mess ups it doesn't take more than an hour at best to put together. I is a nice size as well fit into my little nook no problem and it cant be more than 2 1/2 ft wide. So it's compact but is roomy enough to eat on for two.I love the height of the chairs and table. I'm tall, but even my shorter friends don't have a problem getting in them. I have a portable infant chair strapped to one for my daughter and the chair is perfectly stable.Installation was simple enough, it was a little difficult because the metal is not easily malliable, but that just means it's all the more sturdy.I'm very happy with the look of it, it is funky and classic at the same time so it doesn't over power my kitchen, but compliments the tomato red I painted the walls.Yep I love it! see less

For what it costs its a good value. Looks very elegant. However be aware that the table top is very cheap and light. Its great if you don't have a lot of heavy wear-and-tear when using it. Note that assembly can be a little rough as not all of the parts align perfectly. You may have to force and hammer some parts into position. Also a drill or power screw driver will be handy but not necessary if you are strong enough to screw directly into the materials. I loved the idea of the cart turning into a table and was quite excited about this purchase but in the end was a little disappointed. First of all, I bought this about 2 weeks ago for [$] and now it is down to [$] and I am very upset about it. I do not even think it is on sale. Looks like the price just changed. The instructions were simple to follow but it was a little difficult to put together because some of the holes didn't line up so screwing the screws in was a little tough. Also, the drawers do not slide in and out smoothly. One of the drawers would not even fit into it's space without force therefor making it even more difficult to pull out. It's solid wood, feels very sturdy, and looks fantastic. I find the stools to be a bit uncomfortable with the slatted tops, but my husband says he thinks it's fine. I may throw a cushion on top. OK, first of all, yes the picture makes the table look slightly lighter than it is.... that being said, the picture isn't too far off. It's called cottage oak, which a quick google search will tell you is about a medium color. I think most people's problem with the color is that they look at the picture and then assume the table is actually going to be lighter in person, rather than the other way around.The directions were not too difficult to read and the table wasn't terrible to put together(I'm a 23 yr old woman with no real experience building/putting things together and I did it by myself in 1 night) My only complaint was in 2 spots the screws didn't tighten all the way down, but that hasn't affected the performance of the table, just frustrated me alittle.The table has 2 very small scratches, which I think I actually might have done putting the table together... otherwise there are no cosmetic flaws. The table is heavy and sturdy which is exactly what we were looking for with our family. So far we've had it for about a month and it holds up to the beatings my kids give it and it's big enough to fit our growing family for years to come... what more could I ask for in a table? see less

We purchased this table because of the price and simple design. We were very impressed with the craftsmanship and packaging. The table is built extremely well - furniture store quality. It also shipped quickly, we received within one week of ordering. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because like other reviewers, the color is not what is pictured. The color on the box reads "Cottage Oak Finish" and the table is definitely more of a darker, red-tinted oak and not the lighter honey oak (to match our kitchen cabinets) that we were hoping for. I even called Target customer service and the lady said it would be the color that was pictured - honey oak, which is was not. Anyway, if the color factor is not a big deal for you, and it wasn't for us, definitely get this table! Seats are comfortable too. We love the table and know it will last for years to come. Be sure to have a heavy duty staple remover handy or a pair of needle-nose pliers to wrench the staples out from the bottom of each seat where the hardware & supporting beams for the chair are attached. :) Wood screw heads strip very easily, so be careful when screwing them into place. And then there is something all over the glass that we can not get off. We have tried multiple cleaners. It's some kind of streaky white film. This table doesn't even deserve one star. It was fairly easy to put together.However, this isn't something I would use as a regular sit-down table. The table is wobbly (I had to put a piece of cardboard under one of the legs), and the chairs aren't much better. Also the glass top doesn't attach in any way; it just lays flat over four rubber guides. I would be afraid of a young child pulling on it and having the glass come crashing down.But for the price it's great.Oh and just a word of warning that isn't packaged very well. I put this table and chairs together in less than an hour. All the tools and parts were present and the holes aligned properly. The legs only had to be attached to the table, no drilling at all required. The chairs took longer because they had to be put together from scratch, but it was not difficult, and it was nice that I could do it all myself. My only thing to note, is that the table top was 28.5" on all sides, instead of the 30" I believe I saw in the description; a bit smaller than expected, but still attractive, sturdy, and fit fine in my small dining area. see less

This piece of garbage came the first time with a ripped open box. It was broken and missing pieces. I was disappointed but I gave target the benefit of the doubt and had them replace it. Guess what, second time it came it was worse than the first and still missing items. It comes with a thimble size portion of wood glue and it falls apart. I have both boxes waitning to be returned but now I'm getting charged the shipping in the return. All Target has offered to do it take $ off or let me return it. If I return them Im still paying over $ just to have it go back. I assure you this is not worth the trouble or the money. The set was extremely easy to assemble - all needed screws and allen wrenches are included. It didn't take 20 minutes, and I was sitting having my first cuppa on my new 'coffee' set.I gave it four stars out of five as the ONLY drawback to this set is the seats are just a bit on the slick side. It's a VERY smooth finish. You pretty much have to use the foot bar rest anyway at the pub height, so it's not really a big deal. The wood grain is just beautiful for veneer. The set is also very easy to keep clean. I just use the broom on the bases when I sweep the kitchen to keep the dust off. The chrome is most definitely a mirror finish, [...]. I've had this table for about 18 months. The table itself is in fine shape. Although i do usually keep it covered with a tablecloth to protect it. But the stools are very poor quality. Two are in pieces in my garage. The screws that hold them together will not stay tight. After about 3 months, I had to tighten the screws about once a week, and then pieces just started falling off. Very disappointed, because I love the look of the piece and how the stools fit under the table. see less
