I ordered 2 of these Avington cabinets. They are solid and beautiful. They look more expensive then they are, yet because they are reasonably priced, I was able to afford them. I love the rich dark wood color. Assembly took a while, but I figured it out. Only problem was that initially the smell of the product, i'm guessing the finish was so strong that I had to put it out my patio for a couple of days to air out. After that, no problem and I have loved ever since. see less

I just received this--great shipping speed--and from taking it out of the box to putting it in place... it took about 45 minutes. Maybe even faster. It was such an easy piece of furniture to put together. The instructions were the clearest I've ever experienced. And it's great! I'm using it as a bedside table to replace two pieces of furniture with one. Now I can move my bulky filing cabinet out of my room! Awesome! Such a great piece. see less

I ordered this piece because I needed a filing cabinet and this matched my Camden desk that was purchased a few years ago. The wood is solid and sturdy. I had no problem putting this together in about 45 minutes with just a Phillips head screwdriver and the provided Allen wrench. The instructions were well-detailed and my 4-yeard old daughter helped me turn the screws because she likes to "help". The only down-side to this piece of furniture is that it isn't quite as deep as I prefer. That's not such a bad thing since it will force me to keep my files uncluttered instead of collecting outdated papers. see less

We got this cabinet after our old one fell apart and we couldn't decide on what type of "non-particle board" furniture we wanted to get. The finished cabinet is fairly nice and generally looks to be a step above the typical particle board furniture from the outside. The construction, which took about an hour or so, is generally easy and straightforward. It is very heavy, so be sure to have someone help you carry it inside when it arrives. see less

I am really happy with this purchase! I confess I did not put it together - my bf did, however he did not seem to run into any trouble with it. It is not super sturdy or very high quality, but I don't plan to use it for filing every single day. We put the TV on it and it looks great, and the space right underneath can be used for media storage too. I can see how the drawer might break if too much stuff is put in it, but I am careful when I use it, and the price can't be beat! Most file cabinets are so much more expensive and are ugly metal hulks. This is just right! see less

I read a ton of reviews on this product -not just from Target- and am still puzzled at the negative feedback. Granted, it is heavy and complicated. But with time, patience, the right tools and rudimentary knowhow, I was able to assemble it and am perfectly delighted by the final product. This Lateral File is very nice. It fits in with my room decor so I don't have to hide it. It is in my bedroom and in fact, my tv is sitting on top of it. It gives me lots of file space. I am VERY PLEASED with this file. It was easy to put together, but you need two people to assemble. see less

Plastic pieces which use gravity to settle rods need tweaking to work. My knowledge did not suffice. The cabinet is handsome, a functional size for a small room. But alas, files came crashing down frequently. I needed to open the cabinet several times a day. As light storage, this piece works. As a filing cabinet, it does not. see less

I was very careful to read the instruction and try to familiarize myself with all the parts before I started. About 5 of 40 parts are labeled. There are holes in the parts that belong to no hardware. NONE of the hardware is labeled. Some of it is separated and some of it is grouped together with no rhyme or reason - not corresponding to the parts in which they fit. Some of the same hardware comes in different baggies mixed with different screws. It took me over FOUR hours to put together. I went with a more expensive cabinet because other cheaper cabinets on [retailer] received similar reviews. When put together, the edges of the cabinets are uneven. It's just heavy, MDF particle board. Wish I hadn't bought it. Packaged very poorly - no packing materials around the edges and there are at least a couple of edges that have dings. It looks okay, as long as you don't look too closely. see less

The finished product is very beautiful, especially combined with the separately sold hutch. It's a good solid quality. It was easy enough to assemble, but it did take me about 4 hours to do it, so plan for that. The package it comes in also weighs about 90lbs, so it's a two person job. see less

I've had this cabinet for a couple months now. It was difficult to put together, it took my husband quite some time to assemble, and he is very handy. It did arrive slightly damaged on all sides but the top, but they are very minor scratches, and it is not in a high traffic area in my home, so I did not send it back. I love the cherry finish, it matches perfectly with my existing desk. I also like being able to adjust for legal files vs. regular size letter files. The top is wide, and average desk height, and it makes for an additional shelf. The cabinet is very sturdy, and I trust my printer to sit on top, along with other miscellaneous items. Overall, I do not believe this cabinet is worth the listed price, but when I walk into my office I am pleased with the look and style. see less

When I bought this item I knew from previous reviews that it was not made of steel just the color which is fine. The glass top is really nice. The only negative I found was putting it together; the instructions aren't the greatest and to this day I can't get the lock to work. Not really necessary since if anyone really wanted whats in there they could pick the whole thing up and take it away:) see less

I bought this online mainly for the looks, locking ability, and a place to store my laptop. First the instructions were terrible. They missed two steps, and provided no written directions, only drawings. It was difficult to determine which of the 10+ holes on the sliding tracks to use. I hope I got it correct since the drawings were not that detailed. It came with two locks, however the top drawer front did not come with a hole to put the lock in. The bottom lock works, however the piece that holds it back is plastic, so when I pulled hard enough, the drawer came open dispite being locked. The drawer pulls? Plastic. It looks nice, but I do not think it was worth 1.5 hours of frustration putting it together. see less

I purchased this little cabinet because it was small enough to fit in a specific space and the right hight. After ordered it came shipped on the day promised.The instruction were simple, it wasn't rocket science to put togeather. I've had it for a month, it's a neat little cabinet, holds file folders and a pencil tray in the upper drawer. see less
