I received this from my baby registry, and though I'm not due until January 2013, I decided to test it out in our bedroom. I'm suffering a sinus infection and set it up. This is SO quiet I don't even know it is on, and I can visibly see the mist coming from the top. I can already tell the difference in the room. What a help!! I had another humidifier we used and put away in another room because it was so noisy we couldn't sleep with it. So far I LOVE this humidifier and would absolutely recommend it. I would highly recommend this product! I have purchased this for my daughter two years ago and has held up so far for my son,he is 5 months old. The starry light is used for a soft nightlight, it is quiet and the option for inserts has helped with many congested colds in our household. I have noticed that it leaks but only when you carry it and it tilts sideways. The filters can be found fairly cheap at your local [retailer]. Like every other humifier you do need to change the filter every few months but ilthe inside unit is easily removable for cleaning. Overall this does everything I want to help my childrens air fresh and soothing, I hope this review helps ! see less

They work great and offer muted lighting for those middle-of-the-night feedings-wakings. I would definitely recommend. Filters hard to find in store, but are available online. I have extremely dry skin in the winter time... my radiator makes the air in my apartment very dry, and I am always scratching my itchy, dry skin and wake up numerous times in the middle of the night... scratching and itching. I have tried every cream on the market & even a prescription from my dermatologist, but nothing helped... my doctor recommended i get a humidifier so i did my research...consumer reports suggested this one and bought it... well, i filled it up and plugged it in, & the first night it was on was the first night i slept soundly in 3 months... i woke up in the morning so refreshed and not itchy at all! I just purchased this humidifier to go in my boys' room. It was easy to put together, east to fill, and then just turn it on and "Elliot" shoots the moisture right out of his trunk. It is virtually silent, I can't even hear it over our monitor, which can pick up the dog's footsteps when he's upstairs. We have a different brand running in our main living area and that thing is extremely loud, but this one is perfect. Upon request, this one is being given to the girls and I have ordered the Dragon for the boys. I can't wait to see it blow "smoke" from his nostrils. We replaced our older Graco humidifier with this one for our little one's persistent congestion. We had always been fine with the old one, but in hindisght, we should have bought this long ago! This product is super quiet - so quiet that I can't tell if it's even on just by listening for it. It puts out a nice amount of "steam" while on the higher settings, and I can feel a difference in the actual humidity of the room, whereas with our previous humidifier, I could not. I was bought this as a baby shower gift 5 years ago...it has a dial to decide how much out put you want which is great! We use it because we have hot air heat and in the winter you cant touch ANYTHING without getting a shock...i mean you see the blue/white shock currents run between your hand and the light switch or your hand and the baby....and we also use it because they say if your house is real moist the flu virus cant survive long. It works to eliminate getting a shock every time you get near anything. Like every other one on the market depending how high you have it set depends how often you have to fill it, on the highest settings i fill it about twice in a 24hr period but keep in mind i refill it after its got about 2-3 inches of water left, i dont let it get dry. If these didnt cost so much money, id buy 4 more and make sure EVERY room had one but i just cant put out that much even if it does last 5 years and does a great job! see less

I bought this humidifier because I thought it was so cute. That was 5 years ago and it still works great. It is very easy to fill and is very quiet. The only drawback I would have is that it makes my son's bedding very damp if I put it too near his bed. The mist blows straight out in the same direction all night and so makes a lot of damp areas. Bought this over a year ago. I noticed water on the ground and a white film on my dresser and pictures because I had the setting too high. I now keep it at low, medium setting and I've not had anymore problems. Very easy to fill and clean. There is a slight working noise or hum to it but it's hardly noticeable. The power light is a lot brighter than you would think. The 2 opening where the mist comes out moves 360 degrees, so it's nice you can have the mist pointing 2 different directions. The color is like a salmon pink, not ugly at all. Going to buy one for my soon-to-be niece or nephew! see less

This thing is great! I purchased it about 3 months ago and there is a noticeable improvement in my high ceiling 2BR apartment's humidity. I did not expect such performance! The unit has run non-stop on high setting the entire time, and today is the first time I am totally cleaning it out. So easy to refill, fits right in my sink or bathtub and the built in handles are great. Be aware of where you place it, to maximize the effectiveness. With 2 water tanks, it is easy to refill one tank while the other keeps on working. The fabric pad under the nozzle convinced me how "hard" is the water in my area. The pad became stiff and hard in less than a week of continuous use.How I handled these situations: 1. To refill the water tank. Before removing it from the base, have a towel or a basin ready for the dripping. 2. Since the package provides an extra fabric pad. I placed the "stiff and hardened" pad in a small cup of distilled white vinegar for hours (or overnight), the pad turned soft as new! Ok it might be to early to write a review since I just purchased the item today. But after a sleepless night where my daughter couldn't breath through her stuffed and runny nose, I am to excited that she is sound a sleep going on 3 and half hours! She was uncomfortable all night last night and all day today. Her nose kept running and it made breathing impossible. So I went to my local Target and saw this on sale for [$]. I checked the review thru my iPhone and noticed all said it was a good buy. Got home and immediately placed one of the cartridges inside it and plugged it in. I registered for this product on my baby registry & received it as a gift 3 years ago. It is a wonderful product & we continue to use it frequently. We have not had any problems with the unit & it is great that it is so portable. Have taken it with us on vacation & to grandparents house...unit doubles as a soft night light which is a nice addition. This is an excellent option for those of us who like to use Vicks Vaporub but don't like to actually rub it on our bodies, or for children with sensitive skin. This duck humidifier has been awesome so far! It is super cute, although I have had it for a short while, if it works well, I plan on keeping it for as long as possible. I haven't had any problems so far. This humidifier is quiet, it is no louder than when the air is on, and you can actually see the mist coming out of it, so it is really helpful for finding the correct setting you would want it on. My son has a small/medium sized room and it seems to be helpful. We also live in an extremely dry climate so it is helpful in getting him that moisture that he needs for his dry skin. I've had this unit for my kids for over 4yrs now. We've left it on with no water before and it seems to have a auto shut off. Still works well after the fact. We put it in a 12x12 bedroom and near bedside. Since you can slightly hear the water misting out "when it's dead silent & your trying to sleep" I just turn it on after my kid has fallen asleep. Now, you will have to clean it every now and again. It will get crusty particles on it from the calcium. Overall, as a mother of 2 kids, I'd say it's served us very well so far and would definitely recommend this unit. see less

I have yet to have a problem with this product. I have had this humidifier for 6 years and I have not experienced any leaking or mold issues. I use the KAZ water additives that are sold next to the product to avoid any mold or mildew issues. With any humidifier, an additive should be used to avoid mold and mineral deposits. Since then, there is very little coughing at night and its only been about 2 weeks. I leave it on low and love that the white noise keeps her asleep. I fill it up every 2-3 days. I purchased this because I needed a humidifier for our baby's room. This is so quiet you can hardly hear it. It doesn't interfere with the baby monitor at all. The noise factor definitely exceeded my expectations. I went into my son's room while the lights were off, with a flashlight, and you could see the vapor coming out of the slot. I turned the dial to see how much vapor would come out with each setting and it worked great. On the high setting, it looked like a fogger, which is more than we needed. We settled on somewhere near the middle. It's true, the lid of this unit doesn't twist to direct the vapor in another direction, but I figured we could always turn the puppy around as needed. Anyway, so far we are expremely happy with our purchase. see less

I own three of these humidifiers...the frog, puppy and panda bear. They are all great, although different. I used traditional humidifiers before and was very unhappy. The things that make this product so much better are: the quietness, no filter to clean, and the appearance. My children love the designs and I love how easy they are to clean. I sleep in the room with my newborn and it is so quiet. I can also barely even hear them over the older childrens' monitors in their rooms. My old humidifier was so loud I could not hear the children while they slept. Not good!I clean each one out weekly, as they get a little slimy. With warm water and a little vinegar, there is little upkeep. I usually use distilled water, as my tap water is from a well and very hard. I dont trust its purity. The puppy is the easiest to clean and does not leak out when you remove the uppper part. Its top actually snaps on, so it does not have the moisture problem. The frog has a handle, which helps some, but there is excess moisture under the top cover.The puppy only has one outlet for the moisture stream to flow from and I believe it does not produce as much humidity. The frog and panda each have two outlets and work much better.Also, each holds one gallon of water and it easily takes two days or more to use that amount, depending on hoe high it is turned up and how often you run it.Overall, I would highly recommend all three of these to anyone I know!(If only they made a baseball, like the soccer ball!) see less

I really would prefer a large, whole-house humidifier, but I can't afford one. I've tried a few different kinds of cheaper humidifiers and this one is the best. I live in Denver--i.e., high desert, very arid--and I use a humidifier mainly for my wooden instruments--cello and violin--but also just for comfort's sake. I've tried cool "fan" humidifiers and they just don't work. Steam is the way to go, and this one lasts for a long time. The only reason why it failed is because of cheap construction--my fiance dropped the tank and it cracked. But we're getting another one because it increases humidity at a very cheap cost. If you have problems with it and the error light turns on, you have to keep the knob turned to "reset" for 10 to 15 minutes for it to actually reset! That is the key! And in all honesty, they say that in the instructions. I've never had a problem with it that wasn't user-error. see less

Excellent value! I purchased my first of these almost 10 years ago and it is still working. I now own three and have never been disappointed. I have one in my bedroom, one that works for my entire basement, and purchased another for my office at work, to control static electricity. The negative reviews here are mainly by people who didn't read the instruction manual. The vaporizer works very well for a [$] dollar unit! Lots of steam and easy to maintain. A lot of the vaporizer's performance has to do with the quality of the water you put into it. The purer your water, the less electrical current, thus the less amount of steam. The instructions recommend adding a pinch of salt if your unit does not produce steam. The "black stuff" at the bottom of the unit is just residual minerals that are left behind. The harder your water, the more black stuff will be on the bottom of the unit. A simple rinse takes care of the problem. Over time, the vaporizer will start to produce less steam. Simply soak the humidifying unit while unplugged in 3 parts white vinegar to 1 part water for the day. That will remove the hard water deposits from the probes and have it running well again. see less

This is not my first cool mist humidifier. I like this one more than ones I have had in the past. As with all humidifiers, you must adjust the degree of humidity needed for your room size and temp of house. Otherwise too much/not enough moisture issues can arise, leaving you with a wet floor or dry nose. When properly set and cleaned regularly, this little humidifier works well. Runs very quietly, almost silently, and has a small glow that my 2 yr old daughter does not find disturbing- she does not even like a nightlight on generally. She also likes the pink color. I've had this cute little guy since November 2010. I bought him new off amazon. He is in my sons room, who is now 22 months old. I use this thing CONSTANTLY, i mean every single night, and i usually forget to turn it off in the day at least 3x a week... and i have it up to about three-quarters power and it runs for days on end. I bought this November 5th, 2010 and he has lasted through a move, a LONG fall off a dresser .He cracked and i have him duct taped together on the base lol, and he doesn't seem to mind! LOTS of steam pours out of his little beak at three-quarters, and i get worried that full blast would be too much! I literally cant hear a thing coming out of him, even now after using the thing so much. I just recently bought a different mfg one off amazon for my room, and i just filled out a return slip for them because i am sending it back to get the penguin again!! see less

Fully adjustable speeds from a low output to high, with a two direction top to aim two mist sprays through the room. Low noise and even has a night light built in. Choice of cool or warmer mist output. My only complaint would be that it would be nice if they had some sort of a fan built into these so it would help blow the mist further to distribute it around better. If you have it cranked up on full power, the mist only goes a certain distance and just falls to the ground, though if you have ceiling fans or other things that move air around in the room they will help spread it. Overall it's a great humidifier. It shoots out high enough that it doesn't collect water on table, easy to fill, not many parts to keep track off. Downside for me is... when I pick it up to refill, it has a lot of drips, like a lot. The rubber washer that goes on the cap would sometimes end up floating in the tank. I think maybe I tightened too tight? Also it has a quite buzzing sound. I don't notice it unless everything is quite. I usually have a radio on or my 3 year old running around so not a big deal. Overall it's easy to clean, and does well so far at keeping the humidity up. But BEWARE, when it says allow extra time for processing. I waited 3 Weeks before it went through my bank. Can only cancel within 30 mins of ordering. Thank goodness I didn't forget about it and make my bank account in the negative. see less

If you don't read the instructions very carefully and adjust the mist they will make a mess. They work great when used properly. I have never written a review on a product I purchased online but I felt this was important to let people know. I received this humidifier for a baby show gift and I loved it. I used it for 3 months after I had my baby girl. She woke up last night at 2 am and I went in her room and smelled something "hot". The water had run out of humidifier and the element inside was sizzling hot. It melted the plastic around the metal element inside. The unit is suppose to have an auto shut off per the item details but it obviously failed on my unit. Thank God she woke up last night because has been sleeping through the night since 6 weeks, or something bad could have happened. see less

We purchased this cool mist humidifier as a replacement for a cheapie warm mist we had been using since our daughter was born. Now she is 2-1/2 and all pediatric doctors said to move to a cool mist. We use this only for additional moisture in the room during colds, and it is awesome! It has a pleasant low-level hum, and a nice blue light that emits from it for nighttime. The details say it will run 8 hours on one fill, but we have been averaging much more than that...it will run at least 14 hours a fill. It is super easy to fill up and clean. Small and compact, it will fit wherever you need it to fit, and the 360 degree rotating top piece directs the mist wherever you need it. It is a bit pricey, but so far I am not disappointed and seems well worth the long term investment. see less

Dim blue glow comes from the unit, which is not bothersome to me, but it may bother those who need complete darkness in their bedroom at night. It seems to run more than the 8 hours it says. I have had it for 2 weeks now, and haven't had to really deep clean this thing yet! I love the low maintenence! I considered the larger unit for my house, but read the reviews on it and instead decided to purchase 2 more of these for my home! I love this unit! I haven't found one quite like this yet! I'd been suffering from a cold/congestion that set off my asthma big time. After 4 weeks of not getting better we tried everything possible to get well. The doctor recommended humidifed air. Getting up the first morning after using this unit for only one night I had a marked improvement with my condition. After a few nights things continued to improve. I've now had this humidifer for two weeks and I can tell you I've never seen a unit put out such a volume amount of humidified air in such a short period of time. This humidifier rocks. It is expensive, but I think completely worth it. I use it in my son's bedroom when he is sick or when the weather is just really dry (and it is dry a lot in San Diego (25% humidity or less sometimes). It is quiet, easy to fill and though at first I was daunted by all of the buttons, I found they were easy to learn after one use. The warm setting heats up just enough and doesn't scare me like the cheaper humidifier I had used before, which seemed to produce scalding steam. Picky. Picky. People. I've had mine for two months. Helped my skin during my pregnancy and we use Distilled water only. I don't even think tap should be an option. I enjoy the white noise provided by my humidifier, the light is a little annoying but I don't trip on stuff going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. My daughter came down with bronchitis and the doctor suggested we get a humidifier. After reviewing several online and wanting to keep the cost down we decided on purchasing this model. Easy to use, easy to fill. Works great. I will be using it off and on during the coming winter months. I really have issue with folks rating this a negative. I know there are companies that pay for people to review products that they haven't bought and frankly I think one way to stop it is to require submission of UPC codes or receipts in order to weed out the fake reviews from the real reviews. I got this as a gift last January. It worked really well until about a month ago. I don't think it's exporting any moisture into the air at all anymore. All the water seems to be pooling at the bottom of the tray. The fan still works, but I wake up with bloody/dry nose like I used to before I got the humidifier. Worked about TWO weeks here in New Hampshire where it can be below ZERO overnight and high only in the teens in the dead of winter. I have base board forced hot water heat and it severely dries me out overnight to the point I cannot breath and wake up. Even when it did seem to work - I bought a hygrometer - humidity reader- and it never really went above the 30-39 percent, in my small 1 bedroom apartment. Over all, I was better off just showering with the bathroom door open to moisten the air. Any how, after two weeks, the machine stop drawing water from the jug all together, only the fan spinning. We were tired of constantly replacing filters on the evaporative style units, so decided to try this unit instead. We are very happy with it. It works very well, putting out a lot of moisture into the room - the top vent swivels, so you can direct the mist somewhat. It is very quiet, and you don't get the "glug glug" noise in the middle of the night as you do with the evaporative units that have the large tanks on them. You should follow their instructions and elevate the unit, as the mist will fall naturally - evaporative units with a fan push the moisture up, and this will not happen with this unit. My husband's doctor recommended a humidifier for his dry cough. I had memories of humidifiers I used with my children of soggy carpets and loud machines. This humidifier is very quiet and the fine mist does not leave soggy carpets. The one complaint I have is that it doesn't really seem to warm up the mist as much as I would like, resulting in cooling down an already winter cool room. I bought one of these for my son's room because he has frequent bloody noses from the dry air in the winter. It has been wonderful. It's easy to fill. He keeps it filled without any coaxing and it has performed flawlessly for the past month and half. I liked the water trickling sound so much that I bought one for my bedroom. I am not disappointed. It's quiet, pleasant and the trickle sound is soothing white noise. It enhances sleep and I haven't found it noisy when it is out of water. It has a very soft pale blue light on the unit so you don't trip over it if you get up in the night. I like it dark when I sleep and haven't found the light anything but helpful. My first one broke within a week. The second one we've had for several months now. I only have to fill it once or twice a week now that we consistently run it nightly. Also, once the room is consistently humid, the mist is not as visible (read the instructions!). Even though we have a water softener, the disc gets dirty easily. It does take up a lot of space and when you fill it, it drips quite a bit. I love that it doesn't need a filter!! Was most impressed initially. Cranked out the humidity, Nice and quiet too. Put it in one kids room. Bought a second one for another kids room two weeks later. But then the first one started to not work as well... After two weeks, it barely puts out anything. We use distilled water in it as well, so not a scaling issue. Sounds like something is failing in the motor for the transducer or something. Now, a week after we bought the second one, it appears to be failing. Distilled water and run every night. So lets say 70 hrs before failure. First one was probably losing it in the first week as well, but our kid did not recognize it. Don't recommend it. We'll be taking them back. [$] see less

The other is a cool mist that blows air through a wet filter but it doesn't work very well. This one is a much better cool mist with an option to warm the air blowing out off the mister. I replaced an older [...] humidifier and an interim [...] model with this compact dual-mist model and it was as if they had been reading my mind. Every flaw in the old model had been corrected. It is simple to set up and use, quieter than I could have imagined, much easier to fill than other models, and, because of the ion-exchange filter, much easier to clean and maintain. I hadn't needed the warm mist feature so it is just a free feature to have in the event that I do. I've been using this Humidifier for several weeks now 24/7 and I am in love with it. It does what I wanted and needed during this furnace-dried winter period. I use the warm air mist at about the 50% or less setting and the difference is noticeable. No more scratchy skin and sleep seems to be better. The Ion Exchanger is a nice size but its also [needs] the replacement in about 6 months or so. I started by using Distilled Water to make it last longer, but that was inconvenient buying so I am using my [...] filtered water (I have very hard well water).I love the dual mist option, preferring the warm mist in the cold months. I've read some of the complaints in the other reviews and it seems maybe people have not fully read the instructions. The Vick packs are optional to purchase to it can run as a regular humidifier. It doesn't blow a bunch of cold mist out- it simply adds moisture to the air. This is great to cool a room in the summer but in the winter, I also use a space heater in my baby's room -which might be counter productive. I love it and would recommend this product. see less

I am amazed at some of the negative reviews that I read. Anyone who has ever owned a humidifier knows that it should be put on a flat surface, not on carpet or on a piece of furniture. I just bought the most recent model, and I have to say it is the best humidifier I have ever bought. I had bought from other competitors but due to the fact that the original companies were sold to others, the products are not the same. I bought this because Vornado is an American company and am familiar with the commitment of Vornado. I love the fact that the Vornado Vortex Action makes all the difference in the world. I have allergies and my apartment has hard wood floors and plaster walls that date back to the early 1900s. I even see a difference in my cats.They are breathing better- there is less dust and fuzz balls. It also treats my antique furniture and moistures the wood. Would highly recommend this product - easy to maintain and it lives up to what it is supposed to do! For anyone who has previously owned any kind of humidifier, the instructions are clear and as long as you follow them and treat the unit gently, you will have it for a long time. The company would not guarantee a 5 year warranty if they didn't think it would last. I have several Vornado products and they are the best! see less

I have run both of them on high setting for two days now and definitely notice a difference in the humidity levels. The best feature is the ability to add more water without turning it off and removing the tank like most humifiers require.The only downside is the blue light that glows; it is a little too bright for the bedroom at night. see less

Gets the job done in the dry MN winter. This is our 2nd winter with it, and I just plugged it in today. Seems to be in good shape, and I like that target carries the replacement filters. I have always used distilled or at least filtered water in the machine to keep it clean. Although the motors are audible, it is not at a bothersome level for us kept in hallway outside of bedrooms. I also have a crane ultrasonic one in the bedroom that I've had for 3 years now, and if you're looking to humidify a small space SILENTLY I would recommend that one. see less

Being new to ultrasonic humidifiers, I first tried the Sunbeam ultrasonic humidifier model SUL495-UM. It was pretty quite compared to the filter wicking humidifiers out there along with the visible mist. After about two days, the Sunbeam developed a loud sounding click noise, however, it still worked. I quickly brought it back and bought this one. WOW, what a difference. Visibly, I noticed a higher quality workmanship and mechanically it was whisper quite! This one goes through less water than the Sunbeam, yet is just as effective. My guess is that it does a better job of misting the water. If your unsure, definitely go with this one over cheaper models. I would definitely buy this one again! see less
