If you are not in the same part of the room you probably won't hear it. 2. when it came time to change the battery, we could not get the button on the back of the timer open. I love the OXO brand but was very disappointed with these measuring cups and spoons. The labels started rubbing off from only one use. As soon as I put them in the hot water in my sink the paint rubbed off onto my washcloth and I had to throw everything away. I've gotten lots of their other products including kitchen utensils and sink stopper and have no complaints with anything else. I recommend you don't purchase these. see less

This is one of those cooking tools that make life oh so much easier! And, then you (or someone dear) drops it on the Southern Living ceramic & wrought iron dog dish and it's gone. Or so I thought. Had the first Pyrex 8-cup for 20 years -- never needed a mixing bowl because I could mix-up everything in it from cake batter through eggs and whip cream, then pour it out to bake -- no dribbles or spills. Over time, dropped it on wooden,lineoleum, and laminate floors, carpets, tables. And,dropped plenty of stuff on it in the sink. It NEVER even chipped! Anyway, looked for a replacement for two LONG years... the original 8-cup was bought at the Pyrex Outlet in Corning NY when I was a college kid needing one good all-around dish to use in the microwave. And then, this Christmas I saw it online at Target! Bought two -- one for the Sister-in-Law and one for me. But, then could not bring myself to part with the extra so have it squirreled away for the day some butter-fingers drops this one on a ceramic dish or tiled floor. I received these as a wedding gift, and I love them. I especially like how easily they come on and off the ring-- meaning they stay organized, but in the rush of cooking, they are easy to get to. I haven't noticed any bending of the handles, unlike the other set we have, although the connection on the 1 cup measurer seems a bit narrow, and as it's the largest, I could see the potential. Most importantly, I have NOT seen any of the numbers rub off. Just in case it was chance that I always used the other set on oil based ingredients, which is unlikely, I dipped my finger in canola oil and rubber vigorously. The label stayed perfectly. I'm thinking OXO has remedied the label issue. My only wish? That the set included 2/3 and 3/4 measuring cups, but I make do just fine. see less

But [for the price], you get what you pay for with this scale. The little dial to set the scale to 0 is very difficult to turn and after a couple of twists, it just stopped altogether. The only reason i didn't give it 5 stars overall is because it does not have an auto shut-off. If you put it in the cupboard and bump the on button, it will drain the battery. And now that i think about it.... It would be nice if it was more water resistant. I wash it off after i use it and have gotten it wet without issue, but i dont think it would fare so well if you were measuring the temperature of a liquid and accidentally dropped it in. Other than that, i absolutely love it. see less

I bought this thermometer to monitor oil temperature while frying beignets and it works well enough. The thermometer seems to read the temperature accurately enough, although it is a little slow in registering change in temperature as you adjust the heat from the range. see less

I have been making candy for 30 years. This the worst thermometer I have ever used. It doesn't read correct at all. It reads too low and I almost burnt carmels and fudge. If I had not made candy for all these years and knew how the candy is to look and smell I would have burnt it all. I gave it 2 trys then I went back to the old water in a bowl method that worked great.(that tells you how old I am) Do not invest a cent in this if you have never made candy before see less

This thermometer was recommended to me by a Cayman Island chef who was a sous-chef to Wolfgang Puck back in the day. I have had other "instant" temp probs in the past, but the size, speed and accuracy of the TruTemp is just great. This is not a device for small cuts, but works great for roasts and cuts that allow a 1" insertion of the probe into the meat. I used this on a prime rib roast and never had better results. see less

It's a take on Pampered Chef's adjustable measuring cup. It's really handy for things like peanut butter or shortening that you would otherwise have to scrape out of a measuring cup. You can just load it in there and pop it out. The one I got years ago from P.C. was good, but the plastic didn't age well. So this one is the one I'd recommend getting. I like to put them in with some other things to make a bakeware gift for wedding presents. see less

I have been using this scale for 2 yeas and I use it at least a dozen times a day. Having lost over 40 pounds and kept it off for a a year, I now know that portion control is the way to do it for me. I weigh everything I eat to determine the proper portion sizes. When I make bread, I weigh the ingredients instead of measure like flour and the recipes turn out wonderfully. This scale is so convenient because you can weigh by ounce or gram. You can also pull the tab out at the bottom if you need to weight the contents of a large bowl. When the display gets goofy and flashes or can't decide on the proper weight, it is time to replace the batteries. Unfortunately, I got in the habit of moving my scale by pulling on the corded display and it has caused it to be a little flaky when measuring it with the display pulled all the way out, so don't do that! I adore this scale and I'm glad I spend the greater amount of money that purchasing this scale required. see less

One look at it and you should know it's a spot check thermometer. Anything with a digital readout is not meant to be left in a high heat environment. Taking into account that if you use the thermometer correctly, it gives fast, accurate temperatures. Worked very well with my smoker and brisket. see less

I started a diet and needed to measure my food. I found this scale on sale and I bought it due to the great price. It was a fraction of the price listed here. I actually bought 2 so I can leave one at a family member's house. The scale seemed to work well in the beginning. Then, I started to have problems. With nothing on the scale, the display would flicker up and down almost an ounce. When you're measuring food portions that are only 3 oz, adding or subtracting an extra ounce makes quite a bit of difference. Not only does the scale add weight, the display also would flicker and show the phrase, "negative load." The change in weight happens in all weight mode, ounces, grams, etc. I'm having the same problem with both scales. I never know when it's going to happen. I thought it was the batteries...and when I changed them things seemed fine...then it started to act up again. see less

Bought one and used it to watch the temperature while I heated up 2 gallons of water to make beer. Never got it wet and the cable was protected. As soon as the temp got to 200 degrees the thermometer jumped up to 239, then 250, then 280 - And the water wasn't even boiling. I held it under cold water and would not go down below 200 degrees F. Tried removing battery, etc. Emailed the mfr 3 times, and they never responded. I exchanged it for another one at another target to make sure it wasn't from the same batch. It did the exact same thing. Plus - There is no way to stop the high temperature alarm from going off! And, with the temp jumping around like that the alarm was going off continuously. Total waste of money. Can't return it since I lost the receipt. see less

I've been using this all summer. When I roast a whole chicken on my charcoal grill, it takes about an hour. I go about doing other things in the house and the remote beeps, vibrates and flashes once at 145 degrees, 3 times at 155 and until I turn it off at 165. One saving grace is that the remote does do the 'transmission lost' procedure when the main unit turns itself off, letting me know that something is wrong. The construction is very cheap. I got this scale for Christmas last year and I LOVE it! It is great for weighing almost everything. I buy fresh corn and other veggies at the farmer's market in the summer and I can make up even sized packages for the freezer. Same thing for cookie dough that I want to freeze. Or big packages or ground beef or chicken - just divide the meat up into whatever size package you need. I stick a little sticky note on the package with the size and date frozen so I use the older stuff first. If you bake using recipes that list the stuff by weight the tare feature is great - just keep resetting as you add ingredients. see less
