You are supposed to receive parts more than enough so you will likely to have everything you need to begin with. this engineered wood material is sturdy but not as strong, if you hammered a nail on close to the edge, it will easily make a crack on surface. so make sure you are hammering the right spot. We are using this for shoe storage. living in apartment which has small entrance and storage, this storage tower fits in entrance door area perfectly. I love that you can place shelves anywhere you want, other cheap bookshelf don't have that option. we could tilt the shelf and put all the small-big shoes in there without shoes falling off. Shipping-fast, we paid for shipping which made this product a bit expensive in the end but it's okay. anyways, edges of this product was totally secured by cardoard, we had no broken parts. no missing parts, no broken material, easy assembly made me a happy buyer! see less

We have an old house with original flooring that makes our floors unlevel. We can't afford built ins or big decorative and expensive book shelves, but wanted to upgrade from our mismatched towers. Our collection had also grown and were being stored partially in boxes. We have a 4 year old, so before my husband put the first together, I thought it would be a tipping hazard. I was pleasantly surprised. The shelves were shallow so as not to take up too much space, weren't too high and include wall mount brackets for safety. With the DVDs filling the shelves, you cannot see the cardboard backing and the entire unit is very sturdy despits the slimness. We placed two side by side and they look simple, but chic. There is even enough room to put some decorative accents on top. see less

Altho most would use this for media storage, I bought it to display wood-mounted rubber stamps in my craft room. Its shallow shelves are just right. Sits on top of my stamping desk and looks like a hutch. Very sturdy. Holding more than 200 stamps. It's PERFECT! Easy assembly in less than 30 minutes. Comes with a bracket to attach to the wall if wanted. One note- it's really dark cherry, more of a walnut shade. Additional note-Walmart carries the same piece but just raised the price to 10 bucks more!! This was a great value. I would recommend to anyone. I already had one of these and ordered a second to put on the other side of my tv stand. It went together in about an hour and a half. Easy to assemble and very sturdy. It holds many different types of media. I have mine filled with CD's, DVDs, Blu Ray and a few VHS. It does not hold the giant sized VHS boxes but those are going the way of the dinosaur so it wasn't a big problem. Shelfs are not adjustable but are a nice distance apart and evenly spaced. The color is discribed as Espresso but these are almost black. Think of it as black if you are going to buy one. I have bought two at separate times and they both look black. Swivel works well also. I've had this rack for more than a year now & it's still holding up great. If you look at the picture, you'll see there are diagonal bars that act as a stopper on each shelf. The idea is that when the rack isn't full, these hold the dvds in place. I would recommend leaving these off. They do a really bad job of holding the DVDs on the rack before the rack gets full. Then once the rack gets full, they take up space that another DVD could be taking up & they cant be removed without taking the whole thing apart. I saw another review that mentioned that the DVD's slid off. That happened to me a couple of times too, when the rack isn't that full, the DVD's had a tendency to want to slide off. Once the rack gets full though, it becomes a lot more sturdy. see less

This cabinet looks great with our other espresso furniture and is very convenient and classy. It took a bit of doing to put together, but was manageable. My one big complaint is that the shelf spacing is odd- there is no way to insert the shelves so that all DVDs can be placed upright because of the location of the middle shelf, which braces the sides. Some shelves end up being far too short, and DVDs must be placed horizontally. It's a weird design flaw - but not one that bothers us overmuch in the long run. see less

I've purchased many items of furniture from Target over the past 6 months, and most of them I've been happy with, considering the fact that they are self-assembly. This is the first that has been a disappointment. The wood is a very lightweight particle board. It splits easily when attaching the backing with the provided screws. The finish veneer looks cheap. The stability is pretty flimsy. In addition, the supports for the shelves are spaced unevenly, such that CDs fit on one shelf with a little gap to spare, but on other shelves they are very tight and have to be slightly tilted to fit. Fully loaded with only CDs, the shelves deflect a bit which doesn't help with the space issues below either. It's difficult to access CDs stored on the middle of the shelves, where the door panels cross each other. Pros--It does look nice from a distance,and it holds a large amount of CDs. I probably have about 70 CDs per each of the 8 shelves, so it can hold well over 500 CDs. see less

Just got one and plan on getting a 2nd. Great way to store a large amount of DVDs in a small amount of space. I had my DVDs on a 6' x 3' bookshelf, and I think 2 of these should fit all my DVDs. Love the low price and easy assembly. I didn't give it all 5s because it seems somewhat unsteady. The wire racks come in 2 parts and the top one just sets in the lower one, doesn't seem very secure. I think the weight of the DVDs will hold it in and if not, I'll wrap some black tape around the slots, I think. It is not terribly steady on the carpet, but has a wall attachment kit, which I'll use once I have it's final location selected. Overall a good deal for the money, I think. see less

Good cabinet for storing my DVD collection. I plan on getting another one as soon as I can get it on sale again. I bought this cabinet in December 2011 for [$] which for this price is a good deal. Once it's assembled it is pretty sturdy and nice looking. The expresso color matches both brown and black colors. each shelf holds approximately 40-43 DVDs in their cases and there are a total of 4 shelves. If you leave a little extra space between the shelves you can slide a few DVDs on top of the other DVDs if you lie them flat. I did this and was able to fit an extra 12 Dvds in my cabinet. see less

I know one can't expect much from furniture priced this low. You can't expect great quality, durability, etc. But this thing doesn't even FUNCTION properly. The instructions are useless and wrong, it mentions that you only need a philips screwdriver and a hammer, but that's only true for easy-to-assemble things with pre-drilled holes, you need a power drill to install this, and even with that, it's VERY difficult. The holes indented for the doors are also off, as when you put the doors on with the hinges, the right one will never be aligned with the left, it'll either be too low, and scratch the bottom, or too high, and won't click on the magnet. It appears that this would be annoyances that someone with experience could easily work around. But for something like me, or someone with little to no experience in buildings things, this will be a complete frustration and waste of time. see less

The shelves on the TV stand are removable, which I like because I removed the middle one and put my stereo down there, with my speakers up on the towers. The TV stand is very very sturdy, even with my 29" tube TV sitting on top of it (I know... I need to just get a flat screen). The only drawback at all about this set is that the towers are a liiittle bit wobbly, especially when they're sitting on carpet, but really once you put things on the shelves and weigh it down, you have zero problems. The finish is a very dark brown-brown. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a contemporary clean line media center, and it is not over-powering in the room. You had better be very good at assembly based on minimal instructions if you buy this unit. There are no written instructions, just drawings, which is ok, but, the drawings are too small & not clear. We finally managed after several hours to get it together. We also had one breakage which we managed to fix. The clearance between the back groove for the doors and the dvds is not quite enough so the two side doors brush against some of the dvds as you open and close them.All that being said, it does look nice after we finally got it up. Yes, as any well constructed item is going to take longer to put together than the cheaper made ones, I think this one is worth it! The doors do make it a bit front heavy, but it doesn't teeter when you open the doors. We did take the few minutes to anchor it to the wall because we have children and it is front heavy. I needed something classy to store my classic video collection, a media varying in size. Originally I considered building my own custom cabinet - until I saw this.First I will note my only real gripe - on my unit, when closed, towards the bottom where the doors meet one door sticks out maybe a centimeter more than the other if that. Barely noticeable (especially since it's black) and I doubt this is the case with all of them. It's honestly not enough to warrant docking a star because I am that impressed with the cabinet.I only got it in yesterday, but I am extremely satisfied. It comes fully assembled except for the shelves (which you would expect since they are adjustable and would come loose). The shelves are very easy to put in and require no tools whatsoever. Normally I enjoy putting things together but I have to say it was refreshing to be able to put it to use right away and not worry about damaging anything as I assembled it.I was very happy to see that it comes with enough shelves so that if you wanted to stock the cabinet full of CD's, you could. It doesn't force you to have any shelves bigger than that if you don't want. In other words - this cabinet will store exactly what you want, and lots of it. No space is wasted.The material is among the highest quality furniture I've ever bought, and all of the hardware is installed well and feels very durable. It arrived safely to my home & only needed to have the shelves installed, which was very simple & required no tools.The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because there were a few scratches in the black paint, which were probably more visible than if it were just a natural type stained wood. I used a black sharpie marker to cover them up & it's like they were never there. I just figured it was worth mentioning since it did not arrive "perfect."I love it! It clearly shoes you can use the bottom four shelves for dvds and blue rays. Well, the top of these four ends up being so short you can't even put a blue ray up right on it! I called and complained to [manufacturer] about this so hopefully no one else will purchase this and have the same problem. It's not something I can easily fix either, as the space between the shelves are not nearly as generous as the pictures would lead you to believe. I purchased 2 of these as part of a media room remodel. They are well-packed and double boxed, and survived the UPS trip without a problem. Once home, I unpacked & started assembly. Spread over 2 evenings, working alone, from start to wall-mounted, it took about three hours to do the first, considerably less for the 2nd. All parts are segregated and easily identified, and the only tools needed are a screwdriver (and a drill if you want to wall-mount them). If you're not used to this kind of assembly, I would agree with the mfr's. recommendation of having a 2nd pair of hands to help with connecting the two sections, and to add stability while attaching the backboards. Visually, they are attractive (I purchased the all-black units) and minimalistic, and the backing has a faux carbon-fiber appearance. Also, with a small pair of bookends you can utilize the top as another shelf, should you need/want to go higher (I did!) They mounted to the wall minimal effort, and are easily made level. The only improvement I would suggest would be stronger connections where the top and bottom sections join, as a little flex could cause some serious damage.Final assessment: Attractive, filled the bill, almost a perfect piece. 4-1/2 out of 5 stars! see less

Item came in damaged. bottom left corner cracked and cheap backing peeling off the back. Unfortunately, Target customer service would not send a new item out until I returned this damaged one to the store - the store is 30 mintes away from my home, nor would they come pick it up as many other retailers would most kindly do! It took over an hour on the phone, 3 different representatives to finally receive the negative answer they could not do anything for me but sent me a 5.00 dollar ecertificate. At one point I was told that I couldn't return it because it was invoiced. Another representative, said that I had to call the company for a refund - she was clearly mistaken. My advice, check out the furnature in the stores before ordering online. The quality is not worth the almost 300 dollars spent or the hassle it is to return it. see less

The cabinet arrived damaged. The cheap wood backing pulled through the staples holding it on. The backing is not attached to one full side. Also, the base was cracked and splintering. I searched all over to find something like this to store wine glasses, misc. dishes, etc. The color is much darker than the picture. More of a dark chocolate or espresso. The picture looks washed out so I was glad it was darker. I was first worried about the quality since the instructions said no tools required! But it's probably the most sturdy piece I've assembled. It has locking grooves that make it extremely tight. A rubber mallet makes the job much easier to assemble, and another set of hands is very helpful to hold the pieces during assembly (my 5yr old helped). Didn't take long at all. It is not as deep as I thought it would be. The deminsions say 12" wide (deep) but the interior depth is more like 10", so I wasn't able to put some things in that I had planned on. Other than that, I hightly recommend this piece. see less

This cabinet is the perfect solution to our need. My wife's office is in a corner of our 'great room', and she was complaining that she needed a storage solution for the various papers and supplies that was both functional and attractive. This bookcase/media cabinet was the perfect size and color for our needs. It is well-designed. While assembly was straightforward, it was a bit more difficult than anticipated and did require a second person for getting the back panel in place. It also helped to have a rubber mallet to firmly seat the pieces in place without marking the exterior. see less

I am very pleasantly surprised with this unit. I placed the order late Monday night and the package arrived before lunch on Wednesday. It was expected to arrive the following Monday. Construction took several hours. My husband was gracious and let me do 100 percent of the construction. No power tools were required, just a hammer and screwdrivers. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow, just make sure you pay attention to every detail on each page. Although it is compressed particle board and the bottom of the drawers are not extremely sturdy as other reviewers mentioned, I am very happy with the quality of this piece. I took my time making sure everything lined up correctly during the construction process and it is a very sturdy, classy unit. If this had been pre-assembled, I probably would not be as happy with it. Knowing how each piece works together and how to tweak it if anything needs to be adjusted is a great feeling. So glad we made the purchase! see less

we don't normally order furniture sight unseen, but were pleased with this purchase. We already had a black center piece and needed something to make it a bit bigger. The shelves came packaged very securely with extra styrofoam and cardboard, and there was no damage to the boxes. Two people easily put two of these together in under 2 hours following the instructions. They are not the quality you would get from some furniture stores, but for the price, they were just what we expected to get. see less

This item was fairly easy to install, except for when it came to the drawers. There is nothing to the hold the drawer part to the back of the drawer. It is done by fitting the slots into the grooves, which isn't easy because the particle board just falls apart when you try to do that. I ended up having to go to a hardware store, buying some wood glue and gluing the back to the drawer. The bottom of the draw is very flexible, so is not able to hold very much weight and when you nail that part to the back of the drawer, the particle board falls apart. Luckily, those pieces are able to be hidden. Other than that, it's a very nice looking piece of furniture. see less

Exactly what I was looking for and the quality and color and design is more than satisfactory. It arrived quickly and was well packaged so there was no breakage or damage. It came in 2 cartons. A friend and I assembled it in 2 hours but we did it leisurely. There were plenty of extra screws and shelf brackets. The quality far surpasses expectations. The glass sliding doors moved smoothly and were not flimsy. There were more than enough shelves. I have 2 left over after spacing the shelves for DVDs on one side and CDs on the other with no excess height between each shelf and its contents. I even put some paperbacks in it. It is sturdy and the color is a dark cherry brown. I am HIGHLY pleased by the quality, design, sturdiness, practicality of this. I can't praise it enough. The color is more muted than the bright red in the photo. It looks exactly like I hoped it would look. see less

It looks great in our living room, holding our sizable DVD collection. The only issue I have with this product is one of the doors does not slide as easily as the other, which rocks the entire unit. My 19-year old daughter collects DVDs. By collecting DVDs, I don't mean she has been fortunate to collect just a few. On the contrary, she has amassed over 500 of them, and they litter every crevice in her room. Then one day a few weeks ago, she observed an online advertisement from Target regarding a Media Tower Wood Cabinet. "Wow," she says. "This will solve all of my problems." Then I came home from work. "Daddy, you've got to see this," she mentions. "Hurry, before they are all gone." Upon showing me the tremendous pictures online, I knew I had to purchase one. First, it would indeed solve all of her problems with her cache of DVDs. Second, I saw the quality in the product. Third, the price was very affordable. Fourth and most important, I knew it came from Target, where we prefer to do most of our shopping. Obviously, my daughter and I got one. The delivery was extremely fast, and arrived several days before I expected. The Media Tower Wood Cabinet arrived in perfect condition, having been amply packaged to protect it during shipping. In fact, as I told my daughter, "Everything arrives from Target in that condition!" Naturally, the item required "some assembly." Leery that the instructions for assembling the item would require an advanced degree from [...] in engineering, I was surprised that the instructions were very easy to understand. Consequenly, the assembly took me about one hour, and required only a couple of tools. This cabinet was easy to assemble!! Upon attaching the unit to my daughter's wall, as instructed, I stood back and just marveled at the unit. It definitely made her room!! What an attractive DVD media tower!! What a way to solve the problems with my daughter's self-professed "DVD-buying addiction!" Once the main unit was assembled, my daughter was allowed the opportunity of placing the shelving into the unit. She literally loved this process, as it required no tools, just a good imagination. She subsequently took her time and placed all of her DVDs into the cabinet in alphabetical order. What a happy girl!! That same night, she invited some of her friends over our house to look at her new creation, and just glowed all evening long. Target made my daughter and her dad two very happy people. I love the size of this shelf and I love the bottom of the shelf because it is wider so it will not tip over. However I did not find this item easy to assemble. It was very difficult to get the screws in the shelf when the instructions say not to stand the unit up until the backing is attached. Trust me I came VERY close to giving up and breaking it all down and sending it back but it is a lot of work to put it together. It does look pretty cool once and if you get it together. My only regret about this purchase is that we don't have enough usable floor space for the 4-door version. This is a beautiful cabinet. [...] it took less than 90 minutes (with breaks and help from a couple of very curious huskys) from opening the box to loading it up with media. [...] it is very dark, almost black but not quite, and very very very dark brown - so much so - that it's really not brown either. It's perfect. Compliments any brown or any black furniture and accent items without clashing the browns, or being a cheap-looking flat black. Sturdy. It gets even beefier when the shelves are in. We had planned to anchor it to the wall, but there's really no need. Granted, we placed it on tile and that makes if plant very firmly without even a hint of tipping. We got this to keep honest dogs honest. The last media cabinet had no doors and left too much to temptation for a properly husky-proofed household. We have no kids, and no need for locks so while it might have been a nice addition, it's not a big deal that the doors don't lock.By far, the easiest RTA furniture I have ever assembled. Ingenious design. Simple instructions - just diagrams for about 7 steps. A quick glance at step 1 was all that was needed and the rest was intuitive. Everything fit like it should. Superb packaging. [...] Looks: like furniture, not like a frat house. RTA has come a long way. [...] High Quality all the way. If I have to complain about anything with this piece, I guess all I can come up with is that the company didn't send a reprentative to my house to alphabetise my CD collection for me. We built the structure to the base instead of building the whole inner structure first and then attaching to the base as per the instructions--that would have taken 3 sets of hands! looks great finished, and holds all of our dvd's in one shelf. I was nervous after reading the only other review, but ordered it anyway since I knew with my target redcard debit card that I would get free shipping and that I could return to a local target if I didn't like it. But, I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box! The box did arrive damaged and I was nervous, but luckily there was just a small issue on the back side, so I'm not going to return. I love this design, it is beautiful to look at. I am not hugely satisfied with the quality though. When it arrived the bottom corner was chipped. As it was not very noticeable I didn't bother to say anything to Target about it. About a week later my dog was throwing a plastic toy around, trying to get a treat out of it, and it cracked, and broke, one of the drawer facades completely in half. I will wood-glue it back together but I was disappointed that it broke so easily. I will continue to look for a real card catalogue for my decor instead of relying on this one to hold together. see less

Just bought this today and my only complaint is the placement of the holes for the shelves. If they were a scant quarter inch difference, then this rack would get a firewall five. But honestly, I researched media racks for a long time before deciding on this one. It holds about 350 DVDs with spaces for knickknacks to display. I kinda love it. It took my husband and my 5y/o daughter about a half hour to put together. I made him anchor it to the wall, just in case. I just spent a solid 5 hours alphabetizing all my DVDs and now it looks amazing! Love it! see less

I just assembled this great little cabinet. Excellent quality, excellent finish, well engineered, easy to assemble. Even the back panel is nicely finished. Exactly what I was looking for, with one small caveat. I needed a cabinet in my home office to hold binders. Although the cabinet is listed as 12" deep that's the depth of the top surface. The interior shelves are only 10" deep. It will hold 1" and 1 1/2" ring binders that are 10" wide, but the doors won't close on standard or over sized binders with rings larger than 2". I'll make this work, but it would have been helpful to have this noted in the product description. Or even better, make the interior another 1-2" deeper to add to it's versatility in a home office. Although it said "no tools" required for assembly, I did use a heavy rubber mallet and can't imagine putting together this tight fitting piece without it. Very handsome piece of furniture. I am very pleased with this. The drawer interiors are unadorned boxes and can be used for any small storage, not just discs. The stock labels are yellow but I made my own with bristol board. The top is deep enough for a small plant or tchotchkes if that's your thing. A good buy. see less
