As many have said, the components on this bike are worth more than the purchase price. The frame has great welds and the matte finish looks great. The bike works great right out of the box and is very easy to assemble. If you go to a bike shop you'll have to spend twice as much to get similar components. I'm very happy with my purchase. see less

I've had the bike for two weeks now, and so far it's performing well.Assembly was simple - with my 5yo's help it only took an hour (it would probably have been 1/2 hr without him ;) ). - everything was already lined up correcty. I didn't even have to adjust the derailleur (but I was probably just lucky). After an hour's ride to break in the brakes, the bike handles very nicely. The color is more of a matte blue than how it looks in the pic - but that's a good thing. I really like the look.I'll update te review if I encounter any issues, but so far so good!*disclaimer: I haven't taken it on any technical trails - just distance riding on gravel & road. see less

I bought my Forge Sawback 5xx nearly a month ago and absolutely love it! [...] The 27 speed system is awesome and shifts smoothly, providing the extra resistance to maximize my speed. I can't say enough good things about it. Out of the box it needed a tune-up [...]. Once the disc brakes are worn in they work beautifully too. I highly recommend this or any Forge bike out there [...]! I ride it to and from work, 20 miles per day all on the road and it performs great. The streets where I live aren't the best for a road bike. The Sawback takes all of the uneven pavement in stride. Very Very Happy Customer!!! see less

I bought this bike (I got the 19" Blue 5xx but I'm crossposting it here, same bike essentially) because I'm just getting into riding trails and I didn't want to spend a ton of money until I was sure I would be spending alot of time using it (I'm looking at you treadmill). All the reviews I read showed this to be the best bike under 500$. The thing most people negatively commented on is the fork but I am going from a bike with no suspension to this and it is a huge improvement. Most of those complaints are people who already ride high end bikes and when the time comes the fork is easily upgraded but I don't see a need for a while. All the parts are name brand (Shimano chain and deraillers, WTB seat and rims, AVID disc brakes, RockShox Dart1 Fork) except the pedals but those are also really easy to switch out if you want to get clipless or whatever. I am most happy with the disc brakes since they are a huge improvement over V brakes for downhill. Frame is the most important part since that's the one thing you don't want to have to replace/upgrade and this one seems to be very well constructed. I've ridden it on trails in southern california (fullerton loop, santiago oaks>weir canyon) and it has performed well. [..] see less

I bought two these bikes, one for my wife and one for me. I did a lot of research on bikes geared towards entry level since I was not sure If it was going to be something that I stuck with or not. I had done a little riding on a borrowed bike and it was a lot of fun so I thought it would be a great thing for my wife and me to do together. With that said I was looking at buying everything twice and I realized that it was going to add up quick. If you have done any research on full suspension bikes with disk brakes you figure out it is not cheap. After countless hours searching the internet I came to the conclusion that this bike with the components it comes with was a great way to break into the sport without breaking the bank. My experience was extremely positive the whole way through. The shipping showed up one day early and the two boxes were not damaged at all. Other reviews have mention issues with shipping. The bikes were well packed and there was not any damage or scratches. Following the directions the assembly took about a half hour per bike and then you can ride. I do highly recommend that you take the bike into a bike shop for the initial setup and tuning if you are not experienced at doing it yourself. I did the setup myself being mechanically inclined. The first bike took me about an hour and forty five minutes while the second only took about forty five. There are some great videos on the internet explaining how to do just about everything.I have been out for a few real trail rides now and everything works great. I did some tech level 3 rides with a lot of roots, rocks, mud, and some blood and the bike handled it all. I know if you read what people say on the blogs for mountain biking sites they warn you about buying bikes from a department store because you may end up buying twice. I can honestly say that wont be the case with this bike for quite a while. I am sure I will there will be some modifications as I get better. So here's the deal -- If you are looking for a quality entry level bike, with great features, for a great price, this is your bike.For me personally, I simply wanted a bike to ride around on weekends and have fun with. Though I appreciate the quality that say a [more expensive bike], I really didn't want to spend that much, nor did I want a piece of [junk for a lot less].When I saw that this Forge Sawback 7xx bike had: Fork and Rear Suspension, Shimano "Trigger" Shifters, Front and Rear Disc Brakes, all in a bike weight comparable to a entry level [more expensive bike], I knew that for [the price] - This was a No-Brainer.[...] It's just a great bike for the price. see less

Me and my wife wanted to try out mountain biking, but since we were just getting started i didn't want to spend a fortune on some bikes. After doing a lot of online research i came across the forge bikes, and found they were the best bang for the buck with out getting some cheap off the rack bike. Was a little worried about putting the bikes together but, i put mine and my wife together in about an hour and a half. We've gone on a few rides and so far we love them! And also i had a question about my bike so i called the customer service number and just a little while later Mike called me back, and was the best customer service i have ever had! He said he used to work at a bike shop, and you could tell. Just try em out! see less

I was looking for a mountain bike with front and rear disc brakes since I had difficulty stopping my old bike on a wet day and didnt want to spend alot of money. Most of the bikes I saw in the bike stores had only disc brakes in the front and cost considerably more. I noticed this bike on Target.com and loved the price. I ordered it and it arrived in no time. Took me about an hour to put together and I was on my way.The disc brakes provide a smoother and quicker stop when its raining. The bike looks and rides great but I had a problem with the chain the next day on the ride home. I called the customer service number and notified them of the problem. To make a long story short, Forge sent me a check in 2 days to reimburse me for replacing the chain and the labor the shop charged to put it on my bike. Things do happen sometimes but not many companies act this quickly and effeciently to a complaint. I ride it to work everyday and the bike rides great now. I havent had a problem since the repair. I would definately recommend buying this bike and I love it in the charcoal gray color... see less
