I have had this set up for just a little over 2 months and it holds baby clothes that my daughter will be growing into soon. Over time it started to lean and last night it completely collapsed. It is good as a temporary closet but not for storage.
This was the easiest thing I've ever put together! The only problem is that when you are putting the fabric on over the frame, BE CAREFUL!! I ended up putting two small rips in mine. I would recomend having one person on each side and then both people should slowly pull the sides down at the same time. I wouldn't have done that particular part alone had I realized how thin the fabric really was. I decided to get this to put my dresses in so they wouldn't get wrinkled in my closet and it definitely serves its purpose. I have all of my dresses and skirts hung up in it and it is actually much more sturdy than I thought it would be! I notice that the entire closet leans slightly to the side swith my shoes in it (I only have flip flops in it so it shouldn't be that much extra weight!)
Even for the cost of this closet, it's cheaply made. I guess it will work well enough for just storage of clothes, but I wouldn't try it for actually using it on a daily basis. One of the connectors broke while I was putting it together and the metal the shelves are made of is so thin they won't hold much. Also, the clothes rod fits right under the upper shelf, making it difficult to get hangers on and off. But, just for storage, I'm sure it will be fine.
I purchased two of these closets because the old farmhouse we live in has hardly any closet space whatsoever!
I am very pregnant, but I was able to put these together myself. The first one did take me over an hour to assemble. There was a minor error in the instructions in terms of part identification but that was soon resolved. It only took about 30 minutes to assemble the second closet once I knew how.
The units are fairly solid, though I could see them being pulled over with effort -- wondering if I should secure them to the wall somehow, the canvas covering is very firm and doesn't seem like it will tear, the stitching on the item seems very firm and secure. I love the big drawers and the way the closets are tall enough for not just all my tops and shirts but my dresses and skirts as well.
The style is fairly attractive and adds to the space, an upstairs landing, rather than detracting.
All in all, an excellent buy for the cost.
I purchased this even after reading the reviews, which had me terrified. However, I'm extremely glad I did. It was very tough to assemble, but with patience and thinking, it is definitely possible.
A couple things...
There is no 'L' piece. Use the 'J' caps.
Make sure you look at the arrows on the 'H' clamps. The arrow should be pointing INTO where the hole is going to be.
Put the rods through the hole and THEN put the H clamps on. it's impossible to do it any other way, since the H clamps are tapered.
I bought this item mainly because it was on sale and I was looking for something inexpensive in which to store my extra clothes. Although the assembly instructions were not good at all, once I figured out how to put it together the unit has served me very well! If you're looking for a super durable/sturdy armoire then this might not be the best choice, but it's not bad for the price if you recognize that this is meant to be a cheaper and more lightweight option.
