bought this online - daily deals - just before xmas and finally opened up to use yesterday. the quality of parts/casing feels a bit low, and it's very lightweight, not what I would normally expect for a dvd player. while it played a dvd for me just fine, I am expecting this to fall apart just as the limited warranty expires. advertised as a [$] value - I think not. got it for [$] and I still think I may have been overcharged. doesn't even have a remote. see less

Wow!!! I purchased 2 of these at Christmas and put/hid them away and forgot them. So, I remembered them yesterday and decided to try one. When I first took it out of the box it felt very cheap and flimsy. I then turned it on and the picture was just OK and it is very noisy when the DVD is running. I watched some of the movie then turned it off and went to finish my movie the next day and got no picture. There was sound. I then turned it off and looked at the owners manual for some tips and basically got no additional info. I went back to the unit and tried to turn it on again and got NOTHING. Bad me for forgetting about them and now I am stuck with junk I can't return. Maybe I'll have better luck with the second one. Wish me luck! see less

Bought 2 of these dvd players for a 22 hour car trip with 4 kids. Both players held up to a lot of use /abuse/. Didn't have any problems with either of the players. Glad I bought these. Definitely a great product for the price. LOVED that it has car and ac adapters! Battery life is about 2.5 hours. I would definitely recommend this item. see less

I have gone through many, many dvd players and have finally found a good one. It is durable, the picture quality is high and the sound is good. I got this one as a replacement for the one my seven year old destroyed and it has held up great. I typically wouldn't buy a RCA, but after this product, I will look at them in the future. see less

after much research to find the best portable DVD player for the best price, I decided on this Sony 9inch. It is not widely available and i was glad that my local Target had it in stock. There were 2 available. I never owned a portable DVD player before but was pretty sure it should not include the blue line down the middle of the screen and the loud screeching noises. i returned it the next day with no problem and luckily the other one was still there. It is simple to operate-and this is coming from a technophobic oldster. i highly recommend it. see less

These prior reviews nearly scared me off this purchase, but the Philips site had 3 excellent reviews so I took a chance while the unit was on sale in the store. Out of the box I fully charged the battery for about 4 hours after which the grandkids played 3 movies for nearly 5 hours at home with no problems. I recharged for about 6 hours and they again played for over 4 hours with no problems. Another charge before a 4 hour car trip, then recharge before another movie in the hotel then a recharge before the return trip and still no screen issues like the other reviewers. The included headrest mount worked fine and was able to tilt so both grandkids could view the screen, so we are very pleased so far. They used headsets with a splitter so I don't know about the speaker volume with traffic noise. [...]. see less

This DVD player is most likely a decent unit. I tried it out and the picture quality was okay, it is only 480i. The sound from the built-in speakers was not bad. The problem is, due to the plastic mounting bracket, instead of a wrap around strap, it will not mount on my GMC Acadia headrests. Looks like I will be returning this unit, does me no good if I can't use it in all of our vehicles. If you buy, just make sure that your headrests come straight up and there is nothing obstructing the sides of the metal rails, otherwise you cannot mount this DVD player. see less

Yeah, sure... I could pay three times as much and get a wireless mobile wireless "tablet" set that slide off the headrests and whistle dixie... but I bought these for [$] on a doorbuster, and for the price, they FAR exceed my expectations! We have iPads... they want wireless, they can upload to those. I have three children, so for the child in the back seat, third row, I put a "Y" connector in one of the units and gave her the headphones with the long cord-voila! The screens are a fine size. They are in a car. These are fine! I think some reviews mention the lack of ease of changing the DVD... my kids, though 9-11 are able to get them changed out no problem, 4 and up, if shown, should do OK... if they can reach. I would buy these again. Yes, they have cords and all that-but I knew what I was buying and for longer car trips, this does just great! see less

Bought this online on Black Friday and used for a 20 hour drive home for the holidays and the additional 20 hour drive back. No complaints from the kiddos, they loved it! The remote was convenient. My daughter did say when the light hit the screen during the day it made it harder to see, but I just made a slight adjustment to the position on the headrest. Not bad for the price and haven't had any issues. There was a slight noise once, but that was because my son pulled the adapter plug a little and it wasn't all the way in. Very quick fix. see less

I brought this for my 3 year old to take on a plane last year. I charged the player overnight and it didn't last the whole trip, however that was just the first charge. After that it last longer. I rated it low for a few reasons. There is no stop button on the actual machine. If you don't have the remote it is difficult to stop. With a 3-4 year old you may not always have the remote. It makes a terrible noise when you play a DVD that doesn't stop and gets worse the older the machine gets. I have had it for over a year. After a few months the DVD player skips, and stops and doesn't fully play the DVD which has been extremely frustrating. As the machine got older this has gotten worse.You are really paying for the look of the product and not for a durable player. I'm shopping for a new one this holiday season. see less

Here's the deal. I feel like I need to write a review about this product. Keep in mind, most people ONLY write reviews when they are upset over a product. So you really don't know how many people truly LOVE the dvd player. We have had ours for TWO YEARS! We literally use it EVERY DAY. Anytime we are in the car, it turns on. My 3 year old watches whatever movie. We haven't had any problems with ours. Well, it did melt to our leather headrest, but it was 120 degrees in the summer time...so that's to be expected LOL. That's OUR fault, not the companys. It plays fine, even after 2 years and daily use. Sometimes it skips when i hit a small bump, but then I just tighten it back up against the head rest and it's fine. We only ever use the one screen, but when these die, we'll replace them with the same. see less

We bought this on sale in the store for a week long road trip and we couldn't have been happier. We too had the No Disc or Disc Loading issue but quickly figured out it was because the disc was not completely pushed into the player. It may look like it is but by pressing on the center of the disc we heard the "click" & it played fine after that. Our kids watched it for hours every other day for 7 days & not a single issue. The player does not work unless the vehicle was turned on [...] If I could do anything to improve this portable DVD player it would be to put more audio jack outlets on each screen. Each screen only has one jack so w/3 kids two of them are having to share earbuds but for less than [$], I think we'll manage. see less

Even after reading a lot of the negative reviews, we went ahead and bought this DVD player (along with the replacement plan). That was 3 years ago and it's still going strong! My parents live over 700 miles away from us and it has been a total lifesaver on those trips, and even our trips back and forth into town. The only problem we have with it, is that the cord that links the 2 screens together is short and in the past has not been a problem, however we have a third child now and need to link the screens front to back in a mini-van as opposed to side by side. I totally would recommend this player, but also would recommend buying the replacement plan, just in case. see less
