I bought this item for my granddaughter who is 15 months. I was babysitting her for a week and thought I would need it occasionally, then planned on giving it to her parents for her. I LOVE it! She Loves it! She wanted to get in it to play blocks and we did. So, when I needed to feed the dogs or grab something from another room, the Superyard was perfect. I also used it outside when doing my morning walk, and she could watch me and play, and my dogs would not bother her or knock her down. It has plenty of room, its size is adjustable, and is very safe. When giving it to her parents, it was super simple to fold down to compact size. It is a bargain price and a great product. The price is great on this.. that's what drew me to it initially. However, after owning two Munchkin gates, with two different models, this is exceeds even the awesome Munchkin gate I first purchased. The positioning plates make installing a breeze, with no drilling necessary. Which my wife loves so it won't beat up our walls. My son is a little over 2 yrs and is the size of a 4 year old.. he constantly rakes back and forth on the gate and it does not give or break. I couldn't be happier. I would like to see future models provide a latch or hook to keep the gate open, in the event the persons hands are full. see less

We got this gate for the top of our stairs after my husband busted another hardware mounted one. I loved it. It was sturdy, can be either pressure mounted or hardware mounted, and even once the latch broke,and I'm really at a loss to know why, because it's really well constructed, it still securely closed. It also looked very nice compared to the old plastic thing we had had before. It was not difficult to set up -we even used it pressure-mounted top of stair because it was that sturdy- it works by being unlatched and lifted up about an inch, so it requires a little bit of strength to open. It did take a bit of paint off when we removed it a few months ago, so if you have cheep paint be aware, but it worked wonderfully see less

I purchased this gate primarily to keep our 2 cats out of the bedroom, but I like it so much I may have to buy a couple more once our baby becomes more mobile. It was simple to install, and is easy to operate, even while carrying a baby or basket of laundry. My 3 year old did pull the gate out of the door frame once by hanging on it during a tantrum. I don't consider that a fault of the gate however. It can be screwed into the door frame to be completely secure, but we chose to just use the tension setting for now. This is exactly what I was looking for in a safety gate! It is sturdy and the price made it a great value. I wish I had bought it sooner and saved myself the frustration of climbing over or fighting with a removable tension gate for so long! see less

[...] The gate does not latch until you have tightened the top pieces properly. You can over tighten it, but all you do is tighten it to where the latch closes properly. Once you have secured the top brackets, and of course the bottom, you are good to go. The opening is wide enough for most unless you are the size of two people, no offense intended. As I read through these reviews I really think that people are not using this gate correctly. There is no way, if used correctly, that this gate should fall over with the weight of a large dog or baby. You have to push the lever down to lock into place. You can't just pick the size and place it in between the doorway. It must be locked. With that being said I think the gate is perfect. No need to spend big bucks. see less

We have a lot of gates in our house and this was one of the first we purchased. At the time we needed it for our dogs now we use it for our kids. Good gate for a good price... there is no need to waste your money on a more expensive one. I originally bought one to keep my dog out of the kitchen, and now that I am expecting I will be buying another so I can keep the dog out of the baby's room without closing the door. It's very easy to use, it's adjustable, and anyone with a working brain can figure out how to use it. My dog has put her weight on it and it holds strong. The rubber bumpers on the sides have not damaged my wooden door frame at all, not even a scratch or a nick in the paint. It also slides into itself and becomes quite small to make it easy to store out of the way when I'm not using it. One tip: I put a mark on the notch that I use for the doorway so that I don't have to figure it out every time I use it. see less

We bought two to keep our 10-month-old out of danger. We have one at the top of stairs and the other between our kitchen and living room. The quality is excellent and we have complete confidence in the gates. The handle is easy to use for us, but not so easy a small child can do it. Our only complaint relates to installation. If you need to use the extensions -- which is a good feature of the product -- the instructions are so confusing and non-intuitive that you will feel lost. There are no written words, just poorly drawn schematics. We're both pretty smart people -- and my wife is a whiz at assembling [...] furniture -- but it took us a long time to navigate through those unhelpful pictures. Eventually we figured it out. And now, both gates are installed, and we are extremely happy. We recommend them. see less

Also, it's very sturdy and we like the soft mesh middle instead of metal bars. We also bought a Dream Baby gate for twice the price, and it's fine, but now I wish we'd saved the money and just bought multiples of this one. To the previous person who was upset that they couldn't use more than 2 extensions on the gate...I read the same thing in the instructions but then went ahead and did it anyways. I have 2 extensions on either side and the gate is VERY sturdy. It's been up for about 7 months now and my 3 year old has really put it to the test. (she has tried to shake it open, and climb over it but it has stayed strong). So that we wouldn't damage our walls, my husband screwed a 2x4 to the wall and mounted the gate to that. Then there's only a few small screw holes to patch later. My twins are almost 15 months and they also take their shots at shaking the gate but it doesn't budge! see less

I'm so pleased with this purchase. We are using it as a pet gate, to keep our four jack russell terriers out of our dining room area. This gate is awesome - It fits securely across a 6 foot archway and is tall enough that the dogs can't jump over it. It's a heavy metal material that the dogs will not be able to chew through either. It has a strong spring so you can easily open it and close it while you block the child from the stairs. The plastic handles are shaped to make it easy for your hand to grasp and insert in the holding hooks even when you are using only one hand. There are double locking features which are recessed on top of the moving part of the gate so that a child cannot open it. Our desired space was 48", this goes to 52"-supposedly. My 9 mo. old immediately crawled to it, put his hands on the bars & shook it like he was in jail. It stayed up & didn't collapse but it won't take much more of his strength to push it down. After-all, we could've easily pushed it down with 1 forceful hand. The wider your opening, the less sturdy it is. We even screwed two 2x4's to the living room entry way hoping the gate wouldn't have to extend so much & would be more sturdy. No such luck! It didn't help. When we saw how flimsy it was, we put it at the top of the stairs, which was 36" wide, instead of the living room entry way next to the stairs. It was MUCH more sturdy but we were all scared to walk through it if we were holding anything, especially the baby! The opening isn't very big for someone carrying a baby or a load of laundry-I did both & the laundry was more frightening- & bigger- than the baby! I ONLY recommend this for a space you're not going to use frequently! see less

I bought this gate to block a 73" doorway. It was VERY easy to install, instructions gave exact measurements where to put the wall hooks (other wall mounted gates Ive had to measure and mark the wall). I like that the gate is very easily removed since it has latches on both sides. One side is a little bit harder to unlatch and that is ONLY because i screwed in the hook one or two turns to many. As much as I love the gate i gave it 4 out of 5 stars because the brackets on it were a little loose (not essential to function though) and they were easily tightened. Also the wood isnt all the same color, some pieces are darker than others. I was almost turned away from the gate based on other reviews saying it was hard to latch, but my thought was I dont really want a gate thats "easy" to open to I bought it and am more than pleased! Oh and the last thing is that if I had designed the gate I would of added something to stop the middle section from sliding side to side, but so far we havent had any pinched fingers. I definitely recommend this gate! Based on budget it was between this and the expanding gate and I am very pleased with my choice! see less

Fits snug in the door ways and easy to latch and unlatch. I dont know why some of the other reviews say it is hard to do. All you have to do is lift up on the handle and slide it out, which locks into place to make it more secure . My 5 year old can figure it out, I dont know why others have such a problem. see less

I extensively researched baby gates and have been thrilled with this one. Installation was a snap...I didn't screw anything to the wall, just used the pressure mount. It blends nicely with our house and I appreciated the inexpensive gate adapters that I was able to order to make this work with our banister. I actually just ordered a 2nd one for the top of our stairs too. Feels sturdy and looks great. We also did some additional modifications to ours to accommodate our cat since she can't fit through the bars and we wanted her to be able to go up and down the stairs... my husband sawed out one of the bars from the extension to make a wider gap. We have twin boys that stand and shake the gate and it has stayed in place. This is perfect for an opening that you want to leave a gate in place all the time. Measure carefully. We call this "the jail" for our little one who is always on the go, go, go. Its tall, sturdy and there is no way she can climb out or tip this guy over. There is an easy to use gate so you can easily get in and out when you feel like joining her. And the additional pieces - we got the add on to make the area a bit bigger - is super easy to add on. Sturdy as it may be, its also super quick and easy to put away. We wish it was 1/2" lower once folded up, as it would fit right under our sofa, but hey, its a kids house anyway. Bought this for my mom's house about a month ago. Great product. My mom keeps my 14 month old son 4 days of the week while I work. He loves outside and my mom has a huge wrap around porch which is great for my son to play outside, which he LOVES, in the shade. Only problem was she has an 83" opening to her stairs leading down to the cement walk way. I searched for weeks and read reviews and decided on this gate. I needed something rated for top of stairs and that would cover and 83" opening. This gate works perfect! It was very easy to install using and electric drill. I love that it folds up and can be swung out of the way when not in use. I really didn't want to have to permanently install one of those metal gates on her front porch. Its very sturdy and really doesn't budge with that center little stopper thing.You have to screw a little white holder down into the floor for the stopper to sit in and keeps the gate from swaying out. So not so sure I would want that inside a house, but for an outdoor porch area, its fine and doesn't stick up high and cause a tripping factor. The gate latches easily and seems to be holding up to a strong 14 month old an this high humidity GA heat. I would definitely recommend this product. see less

Not being super handy, it took a while to figure out how to mount this. Since there was no stud in the opposite wall, I about gave up. But I found some drywall anchors I had. Screwed the anchors into the drywall, and screwed the hooks thru the provided spacers into the anchors, and it worked like a charm.[...]Very happy with the gate. Would recommend. see less

I needed a gate with a swinging door and tension mounts that wasn't hideous. I use it at the bottom of my stairs to prevent my one year old from climbing up them. I actually mounted this on the second step because he likes to sit and play with toys on the first step. It was easy to assemble with the included hex wrench and hasn't moved at all despite my son's regular banging on it/pulling on it. As for the reviewer whose one year old can undo the latch, I'm impressed. He must be very strong. My son knows what the button does, but the combination of pushing the stiff button and pushing down on the stiff latch is much to difficult for his strength level, he gets it, but it will be awhile before he can do it. Also, the latching sound is not loud, unless you live in a tomb. this gate is perfect for my needs, is easy for adults to use, and looks relatively okay in my stairway. see less

We have tried multiple gates to keep our kids and dogs off the stairs. We wanted something that went with our decor - wood floors and dark fixtures - and that is easy to use with one hand and sturdy for a strong toddler and big 100 lb boxers. This gate worked perfectly for us. It can attach to different top and bottom opening widths, so it wasn't an issue to pressure mount it on the baseboard at the bottom and on the wall at the top. It looks gorgeous with our dark fixtures and dark wood floors and brown carpet on the stairs. In the past, we have tried and destroyed a wood top of stair angle mount gate, a step over wood gate, and a swing open metal gate. I really can't say enough good things about this gate. It was easy to install, I open it daily with a child in my arms, my dogs leave it alone, and my toddler can't push it over. The only con I can think of is that it is expensive, and the door opening is narrow so I've bonked my son's leg a couple times walking through the opening. see less

We use this gate for our deck which is connected to our fenced-in yard. It is tall enough to keep our 80 lb dog contained. We also have two young children (ages 5 and 1) who we don't want going into our driveway. The latch can be cumbersome if you have your hands full, but it isn't too bad where I would deduct a star. The latch is a positive thing for us since our kids can't open it. This is the 3rd gate we purchased for the top of our stairs, I honestly did start to feel like Goldie Locks of the baby gates, the first was to small the second was too tall and the 3rd one was just right. Opens easily enough, had to carry my sleeping 8 mo. old up to bed the other night and the gate was latched. Haveing to open it didn't disturb her sleep! I purchased this gate almost 5 years ago for my son and it was fantastic. It matched the oak woodwork in my other house beautifully, and matches my new house just the same, as I will be installing it for my new little girl. The gate was easy to install - doesn't take any rocket science, just a little common sense and a little time. I was able to install it all by myself in less than an hour. It is sturdy when mounted correctly into studs. I purchased this gate over any other because I wanted a permanently mounted gate that would fit a 47 inch wide staircase that could be mounted on an angle wall that was NOT parallel to the bannister post. I also wanted it to be made of wood, not some ugly plastic or metal piece of junk. This gate delivered it all! They are installed in a high traffic area, take a lot of abuse from the kids, have been chewed on a bit, swung on, and slammed many times.they still look good and work great. I read the instructions. I don't think they were very clear because I am unable to get this gate to lock into place. Size isn't the problem. It's not too small or too big - it's supposed to fit in our space. So I say the pressure lock thing is a joke or else I am not doing it right. I am going to return it and buy one that screws into the wall and swings open. I only bought this one because the square holes are nice and small making it so my dogs cant sneak through. Our old gate just had metal bars only going vertically and they could squeeze thru there just fine since they are only tiny 5lb dogs. But since it won't lock into place they can just knock the whole thing over!!!Overall I'm very disappointed. Perhaps it will work for you though. see less

It took me 20 min. to read through the instructions and install the first gate. After you've put up one gate, it takes 5-10 minutes for the subsequent gates. We just installed our new Dream Baby tall gate. It works perfectly at the bottom of our stairs between the wall and the banister. The tall version is actually the perfect height so the tension points hit the flat parts of our banister post. This prevented us from having to get an additional railing adaptor. There are little cups that go on the wall either with double sided sticky foam or screws. Then the gate has circle ends that are tensioned in between these cups. It has only been up for a day, but it seems very sturdy considering our 10 month old hold on to the bars and shakes it like a gorilla. It dosn't move at all. The gate swings both ways which is nice and the black metal is very nice looking. We actually ordered another one in the shorter version for our back hall. Overall, very happy so far. see less

It took me about 30-45 minutes to install [...] I was afraid that it wouldn't be very sturdy before we got it, but all the reviews looked good so we gave it a shot. It works really good and much sturdier than I expected. The only thing I would change is that you do have to lift the gate door every time to open or close it and sometimes this is a bit inconvenient if you have one hand full or trying to beat a speedy baby out of the room. But it is still short enough to step over, so sometimes we just go that route. I really loved the price for this item, as when searching other gates, they were sooo expensive and with most others you had to purchase additional extension pieces. This gate comes with everything you need. Overall, it definitely gets the job done and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others that need a wide, sturdy and economical baby gate. see less

Very easy to install, as once you have the gate assembled it has bolts that slide into a plastic piece that mounts to the wall. Our 13 mo old is still contained by it, but it did loosen up after he was shaking on it pretty hard. We just had to tighten up the screws again, and it has been good since. ...Knock on wood... I really wanted to keep our two dogs out of the nursery, but I wanted to maintain the aesthetic appeal. Having spent all that time and money making the nursery perfect, I didn't feel comfortable slapping a cheap looking gate in front of it. This is perfect! It looks good with our chocolate and pink nursery, keeps the dogs out, and fits perfectly in our door frame. It is tall and I can see that if you don't have round door knobs, it may be too tall. I thought it would be easier to open, but it's not hard. You have to squeeze the handle and lift up on the gate at the same time. It took me a little bit, but I'm already use to it after 2 weeks (baby isn't even here yet). see less

We got this gate to keep dogs out of the kitchen and eventually the kids. I like this gate because it is one solid surface which kids can't climb if the latch is facing away from them. I also like that it is pressure mounted so we can move it around as needed. My only complaint is that when the peices slide too far over the gate comes off the track and it's a big pain to get back on. Just be careful not to push the sides past the end of the track. The pressure bar works well to close the gate tightly, despite my placing it where there is shoe molding and other uneven spots. I'd suggest reading the directions for setting it up - I tried to do it intuitively and wasted a lot of time.Another plus is that it's lightweight so easy to move around.It is tall enough for medium dogs, but a large dog could jump/climb over. We have another truly tall gate that no dog could get over -- but it's actually overkill for our two medium sizers. The North States Clear is optimal. see less

I use this as a dog gate at my office. My dog comes to work with me 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year, and has for 5 years now. I bought this gate so he doesn't roam my workplace and stays in my office. Toddlers visit and hang on it and it holds up. A 70 lb. dog tried to jump through it and it's held up. The stain does show scrapes/ wear where the dog has stood against it for years with his toenails scraping it. I highly recommend this gate and am pretty surprised at any negative reviews. I bought this gate to replace one of the cheaper wooden baby gates and am so glad I did. It is very easy to use and the way that it adjusts to the doors allows you to get a much tighter fit than the wooden gate allowed without damaging your door. You can put it in place in about five seconds instead of the minute that the wooden gate took - might not seem like a big deal, but when you're pregnant and leaning over is difficult, it makes a BIG difference. Purchased this extention in addition to the hallway gate with the 7 and 3.5 inch extentions. Needed it for an opening 59.5 inches wide. Had to make 4 small wooden disks about an inch wide to add the pressure points of the gate to give it enough pressure to make it sturdy enough. I've had this gate since my kid was 1, but now that he's 2 he's figured it out. The button no longer works even if we tighten it up, so all my little one has to do is lift up to open the gate. Beautiful color and nothing to step over, but I would have saved money if I would have bought the safety first gate with a foot petal instead. He can't open that one because you have to have a lot of strength in your leg to get the foot petal to go down. No kid is getting through this new gate! see less
