I needed a toaster but didn't have much money. I read the reviews and still took the risk. I'm happy I did. I've had the toaster for about three weeks and it works great. We use it just about every morning.
I bought this toaster 3 years ago when we were selling our house. It was used multiple times a day by our family of 6. Toast was evenly toasted and could handle regular toast, bagels, english muffins and frozen waffles easily. It sounds "rickety" and looks cheap, but it worked great. I bought a vintage toaster because I liked how it looked & felt, and chucked the Chefmate that was still working just fine. The vintage toaster cannot toast bagels and lacks the proper controls for our needs. My family is so frustrated with it, I am going to pony up the [$] for another one of these. It looks "fine" but gets the job done!
I'm a "no frills for my toaster" sort of person so this one seemed perfect for me. Especially for the price.
Pros - The number 1 setting got my toast perfectly and evenly toasted on the first shot. I'd run bagels through twice, still using the number 1 setting. Perfect every time. I would have given this product 5 stars out of 5, but...
Cons - After 6 months, the lever broke off. Fail. This is now totally unusable. I only used it 0-3 times a week and would say I've probably toasted less than 50 times. Chefmate, I'm thoroughly disappointed in the quality of this product.
