I love the size of this can and the fact that it keeps the smell in, but that's about it. We looked at the iTouch cans, we decided they were too expensive because we wanted the recycle and garbage in one. So, we decided to purchase two of these, which was still more than we wanted to pay for plastic, but this one seems to be a little heavier quality than other similar cans. One other thing I don't care for is the fact that whether it's on the carpet or the kitchen floor, it scoots when using the foot pedal. I'll have to find some rocks to but in the bottom. see less

After reading reviews from others I decided to order two of these trash receptacles for my kitchen. I have been having problems with my two labs getting into the garbage! [...] I love these cans and highly recommend to others! I bought one for dog food and one for garbage. The dog container fits a 35 lb bag of food perfectly. The garbage can fits a 30/33 gallon bag. I might try a 35 gallon bag as the 30/33 does stretch a bit, but the bag fits length wise awesome! Other postives - latching lids, nice looking, take up less space than a round can, made nice, and easy to put together. Thinking of getting another for the patio! see less

For those of you that expect a "large" opening, this is not the case. However, I didn't find any problem with this, when I needed the larger opening, I just lifted the easy lift lid. I was a bit leary spending a cheaper price on a trash can, but after getting it home and using it, I love it. I love the black color. I'm a bit onthe OCD side with cleanliness and I hate a dirty trashcan. It holds quite a bit and the target trash bags work great. The liner holds well and doesn't fall inside. I love then step-on feature, but seems like I end up using my hands anyway. Creature of habit I suppose. Two thumbs up! see less

I hardly ever write review, but I want to for this trash can. I've moved a lot and the kitchen trash can is always needing to be replaced. I like trashcans with a lid and that you don't have to touch. I end up never using the foot lever to open a can. Of all the ones I've had, this is the best one! It really feels like a more high-end trash can. It has room for the whole trash bag, so you don't take it out and then have all this room for more trash. When it's full, it's full! The touch lid is very smooth and has been working just fine. see less

This trashcan is best appreciated for its classic simple styling. The mechanism is simple, unlike electronic i-touch type which is bound for failure. Get the stainless lid. My plastic lid broke from the plastic hinge as well after I had a visitor attempt to manually close the lide. Simplehuman was a pleasure to work with and sent me the stainless steel replacement lid. I would buy the same trashcan again and would choose Simplehuman over other companies. see less

We love this trash can (if such emotion is compatible with a garbage receptacle!) The delayed close feature is something you wouldn't think about, but now couldn't live without! What the other user posted about the lid is true, but if you contact simplehuman directly, they will send you a free replacement lid...and it is all stainless steel parts...much more sturdy than the cheaper plastic parts that do break in a year. The customer service at simplehuman has been fantastic...they got back to me within 24 hours and the new piece has already been shipped. Hopefully this helps!! see less

My husband couldn't understand why I would spend so much money on a trash can, but I can tell you this is worth every dime! The lid soft closes, so there is no banging (especially nice with not-careful children around)~ The bag tucks nicely around the edge of the can and any excess can be pushed through the little hole in the back just for this purpose. (I have never had a bag rip and I am using off brand bags, by the way) All of this is on a removable plastic can that slips into the metal one. This prevents any drips from harming the stepper mechanism, and makes for super easy clean up if a bag does leak.The other thing I just LOVE about this can is that its steel is brushed and fingerprint resistant. It doesn't say that on the box or anything, but I've had other stainless steel stuff that just held onto any prints and they wouldn't come clean. THIS can comes clean with a little window cleaner and a rag. Quick wipe down, maybe a buff with a dry part of the rag and it looks like new again. With kids around, that is just amazing! I think I'll be sticking with Simplehuman for my trash can purchases in the future! It was well worth the extra money for a can that will last for years and years. I was tired of the plastic ones that just never come clean. This is exactly the way to go. see less

And then you still can't get it out. This morning, after months of trying to like this thing, I was unable to get the trash bag out after it tore open. If you are looking to putting them in a corner of your kitchen, like I was, you may want to reconsider. I installed this recycler under my kitchen sink for recycling aluminum cans, and just love it! It was easy to install on the cabinet door, and is just the right size. It's light weight, yet very sturdy material. I use a plastic bag to line it because I don't want to get the inside of the base bag dirty because it's so nice. I've enjoyed our fancy new trash can. I've learned how to make it open nearly every time with the first swipe. Sometimes it's a little stubborn, but not often. And there IS a manual "open" button as well. I didn't realize that the thing closed by itself too until a few hours after I had it. It almost scared me! LOL The opening in the lid could be a bit larger, though it's usually not a problem. I'm finding that this one holds much more because everything sinks to the bottom (and also makes the bag REALLY heavy if I let it get all the way full... ) I'd definitely buy this one all over again, though. It's a nice look, nice idea, and a pretty cool kitchen trash can :) And it was a SUPER buy!! I haven't seen many plain stainless trashcans even close in price to this one! We have had this trash can for a year. Overall the quality is what I expected, I bought it [$] last year so I didn't have to spend much to try it out. I love the step feature and the stainless steel look. But, the most annoying thing about this trash can is that it has a metal rim, like an under lip, that catches on anything in your trash bag when you try and remove it. If we have cans, boxes, or bottles in the bag, it is impossible to remove without ripping the bag. So frustrating! We are getting a new trash can this weekend. My husband "accidentally" threw away the plastic ring - but I think we are more than ready for a new trash can that won't be such a hassle. I would not recommend this to anyone. Sorry! see less

I have wanted a stainless steel trash can with step-open lid because I have a cat that gets into things, and because I like to cook a lot and have my hands free. I thought this one would be a nice balance between quality and price. I bought it in the store on sale, and it seemed to be solidly built. Unfortunately, it only worked from June until early September, when the plastic piece that holds the lid hinge together gave out. We may be able to repair it with epoxy, but I feel that this was poorly constructed as the hinge seems like it would have to give out sooner or later, being made of plastic. It needs some kind of steel reinforcement. I am very disappointed that I spent over [$] on a trash can that couldn't even make it through a year of regular use. see less

I bought these for sorting my recycling and they're working out very well. They are a good size, stack nicely and even with the lids on the opening is large enough to drop 2 liter soda bottles (or empty 'handles'). Take the lids off and they collapse down to barely more than the size of one for storage.Keep in mind, kitchen bags will not fit if you want to line them. That's not a problem for me, just keep it in mind. Also, the lids just sit on top, they do not snap on. Again, not an issue for me, but maybe that's what you're lokoing for.I would reccommend. see less

I have had this for about 2 weeks and so far it is working well. I don't have any problems getting the bag out. I like the fact that you can leave it open for an infinite amount of time by manually pushing the open button. The sensor works well and although once in awhile it will open if I walk too close, it is rare. I bought the adapter to plug into an outlet rather than have to use batteries which is great! I love mine when I purchased the first one, then it broke. I had a 7 gallon version for a little more than a year where a gear broke and the lid would not open. Bought a 13 gallon version and now a little more than a year later the sensor won't open the lid and the lid does not close. Replaced the batteries and then took the batteries out, left them out for over 24 hours, as one poster suggested, to reset the sensor and that didn't work. My trash can is never near water and is never forced open or closed unless the darned thing doesn't work. [...] I'm going to a stainless foot model. I'm done with itouchless. see less

This is a very nice kitchen garbage can. I am very pleased with mine and would buy it again. Two design apects I would change. One, the top lip of the can is rolled inwards and so some square, stiff items (such as milk cartons, cereal boxes, etc) will catch on it and make the bag very difficult to pull out. Second, pulling the bag out creates a suction between the bottom of the bag and the bottom of the can, making the bag difficult to pull out. This problem may have been eliminated in the newest models.Small kids love to play with the auto lid (some adults, too). Shines up beautifully. All in all, a darn good garbage can. Much better than the Simple Human can I tossed out. see less

I wanted a diaper pail but all the fancy ones seem too much and you have to buy special bags. I got this so I could use my grocery bags. It works great. It's a little smaller than I thought but I don't think I read the size before getting it. It works well for diapers. When it is full the diapers should go out anyway! :-) see less

These trashcans are great! We have the black and the silver (for trash and recyclables). They are nice looking and compact without sacrificing capacity. They are easy to put together also. Just make sure they are in an out of the way spot or you will set them off everytime you walk by. I bought this trash can sight-unseen. I was planning on getting one of the cans with a "flip up" hinged style door. After reading reviews of their proclivity to break, I decided to chart new territory and purchase this "2nd Generation" touchless trash can. The door slides open, instead of flipping up. The design is sleek and the black color looks great in our kitchen. The can has a molded ring inside it that you can loop the trash bag's top rim around so that your trash can securely stays inside without showing on the outside. This can made its public debut at our housewarming party and people gauked and stared and commented all night on it. It is definitely pretty cool.The only drawback is that it is rather loud. Yes, loud. So loud that I can hear it open and close from almost anywhere in my house (granted it isn't loud throughout the house, but audible throughout the house). I don't know why it is so loud, but it took some getting used to. My wife almost didn't want to keep it because of its loud operating sound. But, we are hooked on it and it is now a welcome member of our family, faults and all.If I had it to do over again I would have made the same choice. If you really want a motion-activated trash can and you don't mind being able to hear it open and close then you should be pleased with this can. It is pretty fun. see less

This can has some great features: it opens and closes automatically, it is very sturdy and fits in a compact space. However, I do have some issues with it: the tall, slender shape doesn't match well with your standard 13 gallon trash bag, which you may have noticed is more short and squat. What this means is that in order to remove your bag from this can, without destroying the bag in the process, you have to leave the bag very loosely filled. All that space left in the bag is just wasteful. And it completely defeats the purpose of buying the can for me (to keep the trash away from the dog) if I then have to leave the sack out to finish filling it. Also, the lid is very heavy and not easy to keep clean especially where the lid slides together to open. see less

We've had this garbage can in the nursery for over a year now, possibly closer to two. We wanted a garbage can with a lid so our baby & toddler would not grab anything out of it. Used to throw garbage and wet disposable diapers in this with a tall kitchen bag as a liner, a great fit. Now using as a pail for cloth diapers. It will hold a lot. I do diaper laundry every day though and so far this doesn't retain smells. I clean the pail with vinegar and water and don't yet have a pail liner. The latch has gotten stuck to the lid a few times and the spring hinge has popped out too but I've been able to fix it and get it working again every time. For the price it's a great value. I bought this garbage can to go in my bedroom and I am very pleased with it. It's large enough I can fit all my bedroom trash in it and it isn't so big that it becomes a permanent noticeable fixture in my room, like a bed or dresser. The stainless steel finish gives it versatility with my decor and and makes it easy to clean. OK, the price is way more reasonable than the ridiculously expensive ones. The inner trash bin is heavy duty plastic, so having read the other reviews I passed on buying bags for it. Instead I just take the cylinder out, and dump it directly, and then I hose it down. Since I put nearly zero garbage in it, I expect this to work well. Haven't had it long enough to know if the lid will hold up. If you are required by someone to bag your trash - don't buy this one. see less

So I moved into my first apartment and decided to get really awesome things to fill it with.........This trash can is super cute and matte black which is awesome it's easy to put the bags in and it's also super easy to wipe clean..........about a week later the fricken plastic latch at in the back of the trash can which causes the lid to lift up and and down when you step on the petal broke!!! [...] I really love the way the trash can looks and the color and the price I don't want to pay [a lot of money] for a simple human trash can and I don't have space to store a ugly plastic trash can cause everyone will see it [...] Anyways it was good while it lasted. see less
