We transmitted in the rain from my concrete apartment building beyond a 17-story hotel and into the vestibule of a department store clearly using a low-power FRS channel: just over one mile. While driving over flat terrain using a high-power channel we made it to 1.8 miles on a clear day. I'm not sure what the other reviewers are expecting: anything more than 0.5 watts requires a license. That's the government's rule, not a defect of the product. I don't like the belt clips much, so I go without. Otherwise it's a handy device. Instructions on using a headset are also in the manual: you have to turn the radio off, connect the headset, then turn the radio on to have iVOX operational. see less

No ability to use headset on vox mode, i.e., not useful for biking, etc. How is it that a company that has made millions of radios overlooked this? Plug in a pair of headsets into a pair of these radios on vox and they lock into transmit until cycling the power and removing the headsets. If any other brand can do this right why not motorola? Dont support this manufacturer with such stupid design and obviously zero user input or testing. see less

I found that the range from my home was only about 1/2 mile. Plus a GMARS license is required from the FCC to legally use in the US. This costs a bigger price for a 5-yr. period. I am very disappointed in this producet and would actually rate it below 1 star if possible. see less

Why are the radios considered water proof in the first spot they are advertised, and Water resistant in the second...? kinda puts a question mark on whether or not they are even worth looking into...? In order to create a believable Advertisement, all information should be correct, and say the same thing in every spot it is mentioned... see less

Works great... Love it! I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my 9-year old grandson for fun so he could use it as a communication with friends while playing outside. As it turns out, I actually use it more to stay in contact with him while he's with friends outdoors at neighborhood homes close by, and I have instant contact to know where he is at all times. It works great! The audible is very clear and it is very simple to use. (Much cheaper than buying a cell phone with monthly charges!) We get great coverage. My grandson is having a blast using it and loves checking in with me... This has actually become a unique safety device for us. I don't know how it would work for a business purpose but, for our needs, it is perfect! I only wish I had bought this sooner! see less

WOW! What 9 yr old wouldn't jump at the opportunity to investigate the world..hide behind a tree and spy [...], talk with his/her dad across the lake while vacationing, using at camp or sitting in his/her room and asking mom for a snack for friends! Gave this to our nephew for Christmas and he has already taken it to the mall to keep up with his mom while he and his dad were shopping in the tools! He also plans to use it in the car when caravanning down the road with his friend while his parents are in the car in front of him. Hours and hours of fun, and excitement! We bought 3-2 packs for our family. We use them at the larger city parks so when the kids scatter we can check in with them when they are out of site. The radios are smaller so the belt clip fits nicely on the kids shorts or in a smaller pocket.We've had them 3 weeks and no problems, I would recommend them. see less
