Description

When Bodum took over a small clarinet factory in Normandy in 1982, it was not because of the fine orchestra clarinets they were producing but because of a relatively unknown coffee maker called the Chambord which they produced as well. The reason the French press coffee maker has become one of the most popular coffeemakers in the world is pure and simple, taste. The materials (glass and stainless steel) are completely taste–free so nothing comes between your ground coffee beans. This is exactly the reason why coffee tasters use this method to determine the quality of coffee beans. No paper filter not only means no waste, but that the coffee bean's essential oils go directly to your cup, delivering the flavor that is lost on paper filters. Simplicity works best and is the reason why the Chambord's design has not changed a bit from its original drawing. Make taste, not waste!

Makes the Best Coffee Ever ... NO comparison! November 11, 2006 Reviewer:  Penelope See all my reviews >

I recently decided that paying $3+ for an occasional cup of delicious coffee was a bit ridiculous, so I decided to pursue this route. Now, I can have a superb cup of coffee whenever I want it. Simple to use, I first grind fresh, good quality, mixed coffee beans, (2 Tbsp. per 6oz water ... only "course grind" coffee beans for use in a coffee press) ... pour freshly ground coffee into the press carafe, pour in measured, hot, but, not yet boiling, filtered water, replace lid, steep for 3 mins, press the plunger, stir, press once more, never hard ... and, pour the coffee ... which smells wonderful, I might add ... through the filtered portion of the lid, into a waiting cup. Add more of the hot water, to taste, if you want it weaker. I love half and half and sugar with mine. I will never go back to a regular coffee maker, I am truly spoiled for life! I even purchased the smaller size of the Bodum Coffee Press, also, for just a cup or two. It is too cute. I have several Bodum products and they are unequaled in quality ... the Borosilicate glassware can take the heat and does not retain odors or develop a film as regular glassware does. Also, I have not found the glass to be as fragile as another reviewer stated. I wash all of my Bodum glassware in the dishwasher and, they come out sparkling, every time. Of course, if you were to drop it in the sink, it would break, just as any glass carafe would do. I am delighted to see Target carrying Bodum products (Swiss designed). I hope that they will soon carry their canisters, also, and, their glasses. However, you can find those on the Bodum site, for now. Try it ... you will wonder why you waited so long, as I have. It is simple to use, and, simple to clean (worth every second spent) ... enjoy!

Disgruntled October 7, 2003 Reviewer:  Steph (Oregon, WI)  See all my reviews >

I love the coffee that comes out of this press, it is beyond that of any drip machine. However, the glass that Bodum uses for their presses is by far to fragile. In the past year I have gone through two beakers. I find this to be a bit crazy. A replacement beaker costs about the same as the entire press. There are plastic beakers out there, but I'd rather stick to glass. There has to be a better way. If my drinking glasses can last for years, then why can't this?

This puppy rocks! January 8, 2008 Reviewer:  brookerains (NY, NY)  See all my reviews >

After all the reviews and paranoia about which size press to buy, I went with the four cup press. I love this baby. I use a regular size mug, not European but not over-sized American, and this makes enough for two cups. I keep it at my desk at work, so that’s all I need at one time. The maintenance is super easy and I am saving so much money by not buying coffee everyday. I recommend the four cup over the three cup because: A) it’s only [slightly more expensive], B) better to have too much coffee than too little, and C) who knows what size mug we’ll all be using in 2015. If you use a normal size mug and want only one cup, get the three cup. If you want 1.5-2 cups or use a large mug, get the four cup press. [...]Also, the four cup press comes with a scoop, which doesn’t seem to be mentioned anywhere. I bought mine at a store to avoid shipping.

Great Coffee...But fragile August 17, 2006 Reviewer:  Sarah T See all my reviews >

This unit makes a great cup of coffee but if I were you I would always have a spare glass inset, which the makers sell, on hand. I have broken at least two insets and I was SOL on coffee that day. As long as you have an unternate method to make coffee in case of an accident you will prefer to use the Press. My favorite cup, and you can decide how dark or light you want it.

Great coffee--just treat glass carafe carefully! January 27, 2006 Reviewer:  Bethany Gronberg "bethany actually" Real Name (Southern California, USA)  See all my reviews >

We've had a Bodum coffee press for five years, and have been extremely pleased with it! It makes delicious coffee, and we've used it at least once a week and washed it in the dishwasher each time, and it's never broken. (And I have managed to break two Pyrex measuring cups in that same time period!) Some people might have a problem with the glass breaking if they don't treat it with a little extra care: it's important to pre-heat the glass with some hot tap water before adding grounds and boiling water, otherwise the extreme temperature difference could crack the glass. Also, don't set the hot carafe in a cold sink or run cold water in it. Follow those two tips, and your carafe should serve you great coffee for years!

amazing! August 23, 2006 Reviewer:  Oboegal "Alli F" (Pittsburgh, PA)  See all my reviews >

I love French pressed coffee, so when I recently purchased the Bodum 6-Cup Chambord, I expected quality. And I got it. The only warning I would give about this French press is that finely ground coffee gets caught in the filter. If this happens, let the filter dry and then tap out the remaining grounds. An alternative is to ground the beans more coarsely! All in all, this is a fantastic piece of equipment.

TINY TINY POT January 19, 2008 Reviewer:  G. Robinson Real Name See all my reviews >

I knew the 4 cup pot was going to be small but it does not make 4 "American" cups...it might hold just 2 decent cups.. This would be a pot for one that only likes about 1 1/2 cups at a time. I was disappointed. [...] Normally I am very pleased with my online Target shopping

Bodum Chambord 3-Cup Coffee Press July 29, 2007 Reviewer:  Happy With Purchase "Happy Mom" (West Virginia)  See all my reviews >

This is a wonderful "little" coffee press and it makes a great cup of coffee. But you should know it only makes 1 cup of coffee and that's it. It does not hold much water and I don't know where they thought it made 3 cups! It makes you think that you make 3 cups at a time. But the coffee is great!!! I would purchase another one, just bigger.
