Worthless March 12, 2004 Reviewer:  Kim Isom (Allen Park, MI USA)  See all my reviews >

This was given to us as a christmas gift(Dec 25,03), and as of this morning(march 12,04) it 'WENT HAYWIRE'! For sometime now, it seems to get louder while working, but this morning it just poured coffee & grounds everywhere. The on/off button wouldn't stop it, so I finally had to unplug it. After cleaning everything, I decided to do a test pot with only 4 cups of water. That's when it really started to 'pop' and water went everywhere!
JUNK!

Quit Working after 2 Months January 28, 2004 Reviewer:  butterfly (wisconsin)  See all my reviews >

I purchased this item after reading a consumer report on easy to use coffeemakers. This item was very easy to use; however, there were a few things I did NOT like. 1. I like cream in my coffee and the heating pad did not keep the coffee at a warm enough temperature for me to add my milk. I would have to warm it up some more in the microwave. 2. The lid on the top of the coffeemaker was not tight & did not keep in the steam while brewing. It made a lot of noise & according to the manual, much sputtering is a sign that it needs cleaning. However, it sputtered & excessively steamed from the very start, so cleanliness was not the problem. 3. The design of the carafe made it difficult to completely empty the carafe. Water always got stuck around the plastic attachment around rim of the carafe. This also made the carafe difficult to clean as coffee also would get stuck in this same area. 4. And finally, this coffeemaker just plain stopped working after less than 2 months. One morning i went to make coffee & i pushed 'on' and the light came on but nothing else happened. I tried many many many times after this, unplugging & replugging, plugging into a different outlet, all with the same result. 'On' light but no coffee. The heating pad did not even activate.

One thing to keep in mind when purchasing at Target, they do not allow you to return used & opened items. Even if they stopped working. The woman at customer service made an exception for me & I purchased instead the 12-cup, programmable Mr. Coffee maker. So far, after 1 week, I am Very pleased. Coffee is very hot, no annoying plastic attachment around the rim of carafe and no crazy steaming & crazy sputtering.

Features work for a limited time ONLY! January 6, 2004 Reviewer:  Shannon (Germantown, Wisconsin)  See all my reviews >

I bought this as a gift for my Fiance' for his birthday since he drinks coffee occasionally and I do not. Turns out it worked fine at first...But they claim "You can even fill your cup in mid-brew with the sneak-a-cup interrupt feature." WRONG! This featured worked for maybe 20 uses! Now, try taking a cup mid brew and the coffee keeps pouring out and doesn't stop like it's supposed to! It's such a lovely feature don't you think? NOT! I am really sick and tired of wasting my money on products that work for a LIMITED TIME ONLY and quit on you!

Very Disappointing Reliability December 25, 2003 Reviewer:  Steven Loyd (Johnson City, Tennessee)  See all my reviews >

I was attracted to the SmartBrew because of the wealth of features for a modest price. My experience proves that the old saying is right....you get what you pay for. The entire unit shorted out after being used 5 times. It seems that water can drip off the underside of the top when you open it to pour in water. It then trickles down the back of the machine and finds its way inside the electronic module in the bottom of the machine. Hence, electrical failure and possible fire and electrocution hazard. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE.

Great concept. needs a little work December 18, 2003 Reviewer:  Lynn (The Ozarks, USA)  See all my reviews >

I loved this coffee pot. my biggest complaint of coffee pots in general is the carafe. no matter how slow I try to pour it gets everywhere and drives me crazy. The carafe on this model is perfect. I don't know why no one else has the wide pour spout, but I can't find it on any other model. There are some problems with it though. my first one had a small leak at the back on the bottom of the brewer which I didn't discover until it shorted out after about 6 months. The second one just kind of exploded one day. We have high alkali in the water where I live and the build-up is pretty bad so it could have been because of that. I had that one for about a year.

Leaky spout June 18, 2003 Reviewer:  Kelly (Boulder, CO USA)  See all my reviews >

This coffee maker can brew up a good cup of coffee. Unfortunately, the plastic spout isn't attached very well, and it allows the coffee to spill out when it's being poured. I complained to Black & Decker directly, but they didn't replace the product. Try another model.

short life span November 27, 2002 Reviewer:  Liberal Artist (Charlotte, NC)  See all my reviews >

I bought this coffeemaker 6 months ago and now it is dead. It worked fine while it was alive, but last week it just stopped working. Unless you want to buy one or two new coffeemakers every year, I would avoid this machine.
