I just bought 3 of these and all arrived in perfect condition. Easy "assembly" - remove from box, unfold shelves into position. Especially nice is the fact that the shelves are different depths - perfect for my college textbooks. These are plenty sturdy for my needs; the only thing I did was add felt pads underneath so the bottom of the cases wouldn't get too messed up on the concrete floor. I had been looking for something like this for about 1 year; I waited for free shipping & a 15% discount before I ordered. Worth the wait.

I spent some time looking for a decent bookshelf for my new place. I like the design of this one, with the open sides and back and also the fact that it folds for east transport. I ready a ton of reviews of this item, both on the Target website as well as others where I also found it being sold. There were poor reviews, of course (there always are), but the majority of reviews from each site and the average number of stars was high. So I ordered it. I received the item today and will be returning it tomorrow.

The issues with mine are 1) the shelves do not stay up and keep falling down, before I have even put anything on them. 2) The item is quite unstable on my carpeted floor. Would be a better item (were it functional) on hardwood floors.

It looks just like the picture ... the color is nice and the size would have been perfect for my place. But bottom line, if something is not functional, than the aesthetics are pointless. Even if I were to fix it myself so that it was stable and functional, it was not worth the price (price + tax) that I paid for this item.

Sorely disappointed.

I searched for a very long time to find the perfect piece for to house my books and pictures for my bedroom. This shelf is not as good as it looks in the pictures. Yes, there is no assembly required but the craftsmanship is HORRIBLE!!! I don't know how it got other great reviews, because I hate it and I will be returning it today. And it also says it is a DARK WALNUT finish, it is CHERRY! VERY disappointed in this product would never recommend.

Upon reading all the great reviews, I ordered two bookshelves. It arrived within a week and was happy about it. However, both shelves had cracks on them. Also it looks like they did a horrible attempt to repair the cracks with wood fillers. The shelves also look a lot wimpier than I thought it would- felt like I was setting up the kiddie room rather than the home office. Oh well, but I am tired of having boxes of books so I really don't have the energy to send it back. I think I would have been okay with the look even if the shelves were in at least good condition. I feel like I bought old, used shelves from a garage sale.

This was a little smaller than I expected. It's also kind of expensive for the size. But I liked it enough that I ordered/received a second one to have two that match. All you do is unpack it and unfold it, and it's ready to go!! Real wood, NO composite/laminate... and sturdy.

I love the color and style, and while I wish it was a little bit bigger, it was a great buy. I also love that it's a folding bookcase, because it is MUCH easier to move. I would definitely recommend!

I give it three stars because it looks kind of nice in my studio appartment, but as I read in other reviews mine came damaged too, I kept it because I didn't want to deal with the aggravation of returning it. I want another one because it looks so nice and the size is perfect, but I am scared the next one will come out damaged too.
Target should be more careful when delivering furniture no one wants to buy broken furniture.

Ok - so if you're looking to build yourself a fancy "movie-esque" library on the cheap, go to Ikea, but...

If you're just looking for an easy, no frills bookcase for a college dorm or a small office, this is the BEST BUY AROUND! I own two that I set side-by-side in my office. They are only about four feet tall, and the top two - three shelves take smaller books, while the bottom shelf can take large reference books. It's a great bookshelf for something like a collection of paperbacks or children/youth books, or if you're an English or humanities student with a pile of small books. But it's not so large for things like heavy textbooks.

I love my shelves - they fold down and come completely assembled. Easy to move - I can fit one in my back seat of my car. This is a seriously great buy for the money and you won't be sorry!

To assemble this bookcase, all you need to do is unfold the sides and fit the shelves into grooves on the sides of the bookcase. Well, the first one I ordered didn't fit together properly, so the sides never connected to the shelves. I ordered a replacement, and this one was even worse: the wooden support beams in the back of the bookcase did not even fit the width of it, so there was exposed plywood on every single piece of wood in the back, like they saw it didn't fit and put it in anyway.
I can't express how frustrated I am to have not one but TWO of these shoddily put-together bookcases in my living room. I strongly urge you to NOT purchase this bookcase. You will probably receive one of the two that I am returning!
