Let's just put it this way...I WISH that instead of stars, you could give a product a picture of a rotten tomato, because that's what this deserves.

This vacuum cleaner is soooo loud, it's like an airplane landing. And it doesn't pick ANYTHING up! I had to go over my BEIGE carpet with a BROOM to get up pet hair...absolutely disgusted by this piece of garbage.

Pay attention to the previous reviewers. This thing sounds like a jet-engine on a stick! My ears are still ringing from vacuuming my hallway stairs last night. Suction-wise it's great. My hard wood floors look great and my carpets are speck-free. The previous note about air blowing the dust around is true, but not a big deal for me. If I were keeping this, I know dust bunnies would be a thing of the past. I'm returning it not because it didn't work, but because it was just too loud.

I will also agree that it is a bit loud, no, more of a high pitch than loud and I do have 2 long haired cats. My cats are one of the reasons I bought this, also because I don't like to have to get my heavier vacuum out all the time. This vacuum picked up the cat hair and the litter just great! It went together easily and I have not had a problem with dust blowing out the back. I had a Shark before this, which cost more and was really not much more than a dustpan. Maybe some of you got lemons, it does happen, it's happened to me. If you haven't had them very long and you still have your receipt Target has a 60 day return policy. Give it a try. They're not responsible for a defective product.

I wish I had read reviews before purchasing it today. This vac is extremly loud! Vents on the side of the vac blow air out so hard that anything you're trying to pick up is quickly blown into the air only to settle again moments later. The motor is so powerful that it cut my hand because it jerked so hard as I was turning it on. This vac is horrible horrible horrible!

I bought this vaccum for my small apartment. This vaccum makes sooo much noise but hardly pick anything up. There is hardly and suction at all! I had to go over the same surface more than 5x's to pick up all the debris. This vaccum does work well on hardwood and tile though! You get what you pay for with this item.

I gave this item three stars because it actually has good suction and will even clean the few rugs that we have on our hardwood. Of course, the price is right, but I still have to return it. It literally sounds like a Jet Engine. This is something to consider if you live in a home with lots of bare floors, which are often very echoey. My ears literally ring after I shut the thing off. It gets a great rating for functionality, but a zero for practicality.

When I finish using this vac, my ears are ringing. It's so very loud. I'm not exaggerating. Additionally, the exhaust blows out of the vac in such a manner that it blows away the dust and dirt that you haven't yet vacuumed, thus leaving you to chase dirt around your floor. I don't know why Consumer Reports gave this such a good rating.

It works great at this price range! I would it compare it somewhat to the shopvac though, loud and blows air out the side. For what I use it for, the kitchen and small carpet area, it's great though. I like how small and compact it is. I vacuumed with my Simplicty vacuum ($200) and then used the dirt devil right after and was amazed at how much leftover dirt it picked up! Can't beat it at $35! I don't think you would want it for vacuuming the whole house though, small areas would be best.

I ended up with this vacuum in a family estate. It is the worst vacuum, the worst machine I have ever worked with. It is loud, falls over, hard to get the canister back on after it is full, awful, awful, awful. Dirt Devil needs to retire this model.
