Dang Cheap Thermometer

I ordered this item for use on Thanksgiving day. The ordering and shipping process went well, and it was received on time with the other items I ordered. I should have tried it out prior to the big day of use, but I didn't. It didn't work, straight out of the package. I assumed the battery may have drained down during shipping, so I tried to change it. It comes with a "Bonus Extra Battery" (as indicated on the packaging) but the original battery is soldered into it, so I'm not sure how they expected the battery to be changed at all without breaking the solder and re-soldering the new battery in. I caution anyone interested in this thermometer, don't waste your money buying this item, especially if you are planning to use it on a special ocassion. Wish me luck when I try to return it.

I use my set of thermometers whenever I cook and find them accurate and very useful. I learned about it on "Good Eats" with Alton Brown and am as convinced about its usefulness as he. A great buy and a great help!

Battery not replaceable

Worked ok, though didn't compare to a higher quality thermometer to check accuracy. Battery is not replaceable -- when it dies you have to throw away the whole thermometer and buy a new one.

I bought one of these thermometers, tried it, and it insisted that my steak that had been on the grill for 25 minutes was only 58 degrees. Went back to Target and exchanged it, the replacement did the same thing. Don't trust what this thermometer tells you, it's WAY off!

Great Outdoor Cooking Tool

I bought this item for use with my outdoor cooking and it's been great! No matter whether I'm cooking big beef briskets, turkey, chickens, etc. I turn it on, lift the cooker lid, poke the probe in, get my reading, and close the door in a matter of seconds. I've found it very handy. I've had zero problems with this item.

Sent my husband to the store to pick up a meat thermometer and this is what he got me. Unimpressive and flimsy, it broke after the second use. Next time I'll pick one up myself.

This thermometer worked wonderfully in the beginning. I used it twice with accurate results, however, when I tried to use it again it would not work. I changed the battery with the one enclosed and it continued to not turn on. Save your money.

Great little thermometer on the cheap

This meat thermometer is simple, compact, and it just works. I've had no issues using the product. My only complaint is the on/off switch could be a little more robust, it feels cheap. On that note, it's held up just fine over the last couple of years I've used it.

Handy Little Thermometer

I bought this thermometer about a year and a half ago, and have nothing but positive feedback to offer. It provides an accurate and quick temperature reading, all you would expect from a thermometer. The only complaint I would have is that after a year and a half, the battery died, and it is quite difficult to replace. Contrary to other reviews on this site, it is in fact replaceable, but it requires prying the top off, and bending a piece of metal away to slip the battery out. If you misplace the "bonus" extra battery, as I did (can you blame me?), a new one costs [price]... It's probably easier to just buy a new thermometer, as I'm likely to do.

This thermometer was recommended to me by a Cayman Island chef who was a sous-chef to Wolfgang Puck back in the day. I have had other "instant" temp probs in the past, but the size, speed and accuracy of the TruTemp is just great. This is not a device for small cuts, but works great for roasts and cuts that allow a 1" insertion of the probe into the meat. I used this on a prime rib roast and never had better results.
