Nice chair but mediocre quality

We purchased this chair in late October 2007, the chair looks similar to our [upscale] chairs & is astatically appealing. However, it is now 7 months later and the quality of the chairs has been noticeably depreciating. The biggest problem is the screws in the bottom wheels, they are slowly unwinding themselves & becoming bent. The armrests are also not very sturdy. An Okay purchase for the price but this will not last over time.

Pay attention to the reviews about 1) hard to assemble, 2) risk of damage upon assembly, and 3) poor quality over all.
What a pain to put together! That aside, if you are desparate for an attractive, heavy duty desk chair that is affordable, go ahead and buy this, but be very careful putting the two screws in that attach the seat bottom to the chair back! You can easily put them right through the back of the chair (this has been reported here before). Oh, and be ready to spend more time disassembling than assembling! You have to pull the white tops off of each of the five "legs" in order to attach the casters! Each if those are attached to a metal railing with four small screws. What a pain! LOL
I can just tell from the quality that this chair will not last long, and I really need to ask myself is $... is worth is for a chair that will last a limited time. Still, who wants to drop $... on competitive units.

This chair is sturdy and was farly easy to assemble. The only problem is that the metal that the screws go into in one of the arms came out- So after buying some wood glue and re-gluing them into the holes the chair is great- It was just a pain to have to buy additional things to properly assemble it.

Just got this chair after trying to find something at [other stores]... My husband (who is very handy) put it together without any trouble (but he also had some real tools that made the job much easier than it would have been with the tools provided).
The chair is very stylish and very comfy! (so far). It reclines, is height adjustable and seems to hug you in all the right places.
My husbands notes that the seat is a great size (not too small like many other chairs we saw)
Also was shipped much quicker than expected - great chair!

After reading all the reviews, I decided it was worth to purchase this chair over a high-priced retailer. I admit that the box was intimidating, but once I got up my nerve, it took less than an hour to put it together and make adjustments. I took it slow with the allen wrench and used both ends - other than scraped knuckles, all was fine. I was prepared for the amount of black to show through (they should just go ahead and sell a touch-up kit along with chair) but not prepared for the odd way the seat tilts forward no matter what I do to adjust. Gotta be user error :-) Well worth the money!!

this chair may look nice but do not be fooled. assembly was less than easy. plus mine had missing parts that on a friday night you cannot get from the company. they are closed until monday. I am very shocked that target would actully put their name behind this chair. I have gotten furniutre from target before and never had a problem beforw this chair I may rethink future purchases.

This is an incredible chair! It looks great with the trestle desk and I can't get over how comfortable it is...even moreso than a pricy ergonomic desk chair we purchased recently. The assembly is a little tricky, but not all that bad as the instructions are good. I had it together in less than 30 minutes without any help. I would highly recommend this chair, especially if you're getting it to complement the trestle pieces. It's fashionable, functional and appears far more expensive than the modest price tag!

We're very satisfied with this reasonably priced and very solid chair.
A few tips on assemby. Take your time with the allen wrench and make sure it is fully seated into the screw head before each turn. As another reviewer said...the screw heads are easily stripped.
When attaching the arm rests to the chair back...first fully seat the screw into the hole...then snake the allen wrench into the hole. You'll need to use 2 hands to keep the allen wrench secure against the screw head...but keep turning and you'll pull the arm snug in no time.

Distressed Finish Chips Too Easily

I also bought this chair to match the Bedford set. I agree with other reviewers that the color of the white paint is very close. The chair itself is sturdy and solid, and for the price I would say the construction is not bad. My only complaint is with the paint finish. The chair I received was a lot more distressed than the web photo. It's a little hard to tell from the picture, but the chair is white on top of black, and the black shows through in a dozen random places on the back, the seat, not just along the edges where you might expect distressing. The distressed areas are big, average of 4-5 inches in length. The white paint was so thinly applied that it has already started chipping after 2 weeks of light use. This could be a defect, but my guess is that it's intentional, so the chair will look more distressed over time. However, since Bedford is not distressed, I will probably paint over this, and use a paint that can hold up to being bumped into the desk without chipping.

Love the chair. Is distressed and a brighter white than a creamier white that you usually see with distressed furniture. But for the money it's fine. My 11 year old son helped to put it together which was key. His small fingers were instrumental in attaching the arms to the chair back. We used our own allen wrench--the kind with various sizes tucked into a handle. We used the handle as a lever. You could never get a screw tightened with the single allen wrench they give you. We also took advice from another reviewer and placed the seat piece upside down on another chair for assembly--very good idea-- All in all it took about an hour and 1/2. We were very patient though and troubleshooted together. It's a strudy chair
