I have one of these for my daughter who just turned 4. I also just purchased one for my 7-month-old son. We just used the year 4 tin a week ago and my daughter loved it. We went through all the other handprints (1, 2, and 3 years old) from the other tins and she thought that was great. I really love looking back and I am sure she will love to have this when she gets older and a keepsake. Basically you just mix the powder provided in each tin with the amount of water required (I always used a little less water and it worked great) in a seperate bowl. Then you put it in the tin and press their hand on it. There is a little bow that comes in each tin that you tie and press into the material as well. It is very cute. I definitely recommend.

Messy, doesn't take prints very well

I received this as a baby shower gift many moons ago. We've used it every year for my son to capture his handprint.
When you open the tin, you will find a bag of powder (plaster) a ribbon, and some instructions.
It's EXTREMELY messy. It does not mix well, and it doesn't set very well, either.
Looking back at his other handprints, they are barely recognizable. It's very difficult to have an infant sink their hand into the plaster and not want to grab so repeating the handprint is going to happen at least 5 times each.
Not worth your money. They have much better kits now that use other materials that take much nicer prints.

I have this set for both of my boys aged 2 & 5 and all of my handprints are wonderful. If you follow the directions and either not use all of the mix or add less water, the consistency is good enough to give you 5 tries at getting the perfect handprint. They set in 1 week and last a lifetime. Definitely recommend this to all new moms.

Nice piece but we didn't get to use the first tin because the mixture was too moist so the handprint didn't set. Then it dried and now we have to empty the tin somehow and buy more mixture to recreate.

Got this for my shower gift and thought it was adorable!
However, once you try to use it with a one year old...it turned out to be an absolute disaster. I almost had a cardiac, and my poor baby was not a happy camper. The plaster went everywhere...his face, hair, clothes, all over me. As the other reviews said, the baby just grabs the plaster, making it impossible to create a handprint. It is just too soft when you mix it at first.
I was about to give up when I found that if you wait a few minutes for the paste to harden up a bit, and then put your childs hand in, it is not as easy for them to grab, and you should be able to get a nice print. I also have a 4 year son, and although he cooperated well, it was too soft for the first try. So just mix the paste, wait a while then put the child's hand in.

DON'T GIVE AS A SHOWER GIFT/WAST OF MONEY!

This product truely "stinks". (I would use stronger words if this was not a public posting!) Unless your kid is like 3 or 4 or older, they will not be able to properly imprint their hand. The kit is an absolute mess. We waited until our child was completely asleep as the directions said. As we tried to imprint her hand, she suddenly woke up and started grabbing the plaster and started smearing all over her clothing and face (not to mention us!) This was our 2nd attempt to do this (We bought a second kit to try this endeavor again. We felt obligated to try this absurd little project since it was a shower gift). All it did was upset us, and most of all, our poor child was traumatized from the experience. At the end of our 2nd attempt, we made a last ditch effort and used her foot for the imprint. The prints did not even show up well. I think that it would be a better idea to use as washable ink and stamp the child's hand or foot on a special paper and place it in a scrapbook. PLEASE, don't buy this for a baby shower gift! IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY!!!

I am super sentimental and when I saw this, I knew I had to have it. I just finished completing the 1 year mold of my daughters hand. Luckily, she is a very patient 13 month old, because the mixture was too soft and I had to redo it 5 times before the mixture was hard enough to keep the shape. The directions made it sound like I had to hurry once the mixture is mixed up, but you definitely have a good 10 minutes..at least! I gave this item 5 stars because once completed, it is soo cute and will make a wonderful keepsake! They ever include a small piece of ribbon to add a bow to the handprint!! To cute!

I love these tower of handprint sets! I have one for each of my girls and definitely want another set for my 3rd girl who's on the way!!!! They are easy to use and store. It's fun to compare their handprints from year to year and even against one another!
