Great for baby's room

I bought this humidifier for my 4 month old's room because she was having a lot of congestion and successive colds. We tried using the adult humidifier I had used when I was pregnant, but it was too loud and kept waking her up. I bought the Crane penguin humidifier, and it really is whisper quiet. The second night, it kept shutting off, but I realized that you have to make sure the cap on the tank is turned so that the plunger lets the water flow freely into the base. Once you figure that out, it works just fine. Also, I haven't had a hint of mold or mildew in mine, but then I also dry out the exposed parts every morning... which is what you should do if you care about what your baby breathes.

My 2 year old was very sick w/croup so I went out to get this, I fell for the cuteness of it and the fact that it doesn't have a filter to mess with. However, out of the box it would not even power on. Since Target has such a lame return policy I will have to wait until tomorrow to exchange it (if you bring it back the same day they won't give you a full refund- even with a receipt) and hopefully don't have the same problem with a different brand.

The upper level of our town house is extremely dry. We've lived with it for years. Then, two weeks ago, we brought home two rescued kittens from the Humane Society. As they tried to adjust to their new environment, the dry air was having a negative effect on their eyes, nose, and lungs. The vet recommended a humidifier. We didn't want to spend a lot or get something too large or noisy. Though it's a penguin (least offensive of the "cute" designs), this little humidifier sure has done the job! The kittens no longer have runny eyes, stuffy noses, or dry coughs. We're using distilled water to avoid any of that white powdery stuff that typically accompanies the use of a humidifier. So, to add a little moisture to a small room, this is the way to go!

This item workes great. I had had no problems with it except it has a weird smell after a while. The smell of the mist smell like stale liquid plastic. All i do is rinse out the head of the penguin, and that ususally takes care of it. It is kind of weird though. I cant sleep with that smell in my face.
Anyone else have this problem?

It looks like some people have had trouble with this product functioning properly so far. After wasting several months with the American Red Cross humidifier (which was completely ineffective), I bought this model for my 5 month old son's room. I thought I should report that I have had no problems with this humidifier and it has worked great so far (though I've only had it for over a week). I will be very happy if it keeps working.

Didn't work right out of the box - Took it back

I, also, ignored all the posts saying that this (or similar) products didn't work right out of the box. But I bought it anyway because I needed it urgently for my wife who is in the hospital (hospital would not supply one - that's another story). The humidifier didn't work - fan was on but the device that creates the mist did nothing. It was midnight and I couldn't get another one from target.
Fortunately, I found a better (functional) product at a store that is open 24 hrs.
Beware!

I have had the penguin humidifier for a few months now. I have had no problems with it. It is easy to use and the water basin is short, so it can easily be filled in the bathroom sink. You do need to read the instructions so that your floor and furniture do not get saturated. My husband likes to turn it on high, and the steam arcs down to the floor and soaks the carpet. The instructions have a picture of what the proper output should look like. If you follow those instructions, you will avoid wet carpets. This product has less maintenance than other humidifiers we have had in the past, and my daughter thinks it's wonderful.

This thing functioned fine for a week. Then the light started to bounce back and forth green (all's good) to red (something's wrong). It sputters and stops for no apparent reason. I'm hoping to find a better (more reliable and consistent) alternative in a different brand.

I am a fan of the Crane humidifier's, so I bought this model for my room. To me, this humidifier is on the noisy side. I have no issues with it leaking, just the noise level. I am going to return this one for the frog model.

I purchased 3 of these crane humidifiers and none of them worked. The penguin wouldn't let the water into the into the water basin unless the tank was shaken lightly, so every 20-30 mins it would stop puuting out mist unless you went a shook the tank. The elephant had a big crack in the water basin. The Dragon's nebulizer didn't work.
