Exactly what i need for the price October 6, 2007 Reviewer:  Lindsay Moore Real Name See all my reviews >

We use this in my sons room and it works great. As far as the mold situation the other women stated, that can happen to ANY humidifer(alot of them are white too) if you don't clean them properly. I clean mine with vinegar everyday just to be on the safe side. Defiantly recommend for a bedroom, not sure about any bigger than that though

MOLD! October 5, 2007 Reviewer:  New Mommy! "Marta" (Woodbury, MN)  See all my reviews >

Mold! It was white so it wasn't visible at first glance it was only until I looked closer that I realized it was covered in mold.
I would say its half my fault (for not noticing earlier) and half the fault of the manufacturer for not being clearer on the tendency for cool mist humidifers especially to cause mold or how to remove it. SO basically $35 down the garbage because we had to throw it away. No amount of scrubbing with bleach got it off.

Looks cool, but probably not the best humidifier March 3, 2007 Reviewer:  NU Wildcat (Evanston, IL)  See all my reviews >

I've had the Crane penguin humidifier in my dorm room for a few weeks now, and it's not too bad. However, it isn't as effective as I thought it would be; the humidifier needs to be cranked up pretty high to significantly change the relative humidity, taking maybe an hour to increase the humidity of a closed dorm room about 5-10%.

If you don't have one already, I would REALLY recommend getting a hygrometer or a digital indoor thermometer that gives a humidity reading, otherwise, you can't really tell if a humidifier is working for you.

It's difficult to get the tank to and from the sink without leaving a few drops of water in your path, so it'd be a good idea to hold a towel under the tank. One fill-up lasts me at least a day when I'm operating it at about 75% of the maximum, but if I don't clean it once a day I think the water vapors start smelling funny (could be from the tap water sitting for a day). Operation is very quiet, except for the periodic gurglings from large air bubbles coming up from the base (sounds like one of those big water coolers after you dispense water from them). I'd say that this humidifier is only suited for small rooms. A cool looking decorative piece, nonetheless.

cute item but didn't work for long February 21, 2007 Reviewer:  colleen C (Modesto, ca)  See all my reviews >

I bought the penguin thinking it would be cute for my son's room. He needed a humidifier since he was sick and I should have bought a regular one. It worked great for about a week, then one night I filled the tank and went to bed. The next morning when I got him up the water in the tank had not gone down and I couldn't get any mist to come out. When I felt the body of the penguin it was warm. It scares me to think I could have left it on for my son's nap and it may have overheated. [...]

Best humidifier we've tried February 20, 2007 Reviewer:  Carrie N (Brookline, MA)  See all my reviews >

This is a great humidifier. It is a little confusing to fill, and I did it wrong once and got the big puddle that the previous reviewer mentioned. But then I (duh) read the directions and it works great. No mildew whatsoever and we've been running it a few months. Just nice, cool mist.

Happy to own this humidifier February 14, 2007 Reviewer:  Serious Shopper (Charlotte, NC)  See all my reviews >

I tried another humidifier that was so loud it was laughable. Read reviews on the Target site and immediately bought this one. It works so well, I bought the pig for my daughter. Extremely quiet -- only a little dripping sound which is very soothing. No problem filling it in my bathroom sink. Mist lasts all night. Don't be deceived by the juvenile design, this is a great product.

this is NOT a safe product!! DO NOT BUY THIS!! February 3, 2007 Reviewer:  A. Halpin Real Name See all my reviews >

I recently received this as a baby shower gift for my second child. I decided to try it out in our master bedroom BEFORE I put it to use for our older child and boy am I glad that I did!!!! I plugged it in and went to sleep and when I awoke in the morning I got out of bed and was standing (quite literally!) in a HUGE puddle of water!! In my groggy state I very nearly unplugged it while standing in that very puddle (I cringe when I think of what could have happened to me and my unborn child had I done so!!) But what is even more scary is the thought that my four year old could have awoken to the same scenario in his own bedroom...I can't even think about what could have happened!! I am returning this product and will probably buy a regular (rather than novelty) humidifier! The novelty part of it...while cute at first...now has me concerned that my children will attempt to "play" with it and possibly electrocute themselves. I do not think that these are safe for young children and are obviously very poorly designed! BEWARE!!!!

Great for small areas January 29, 2007 Reviewer:  Tiger Tiger "burning bright" See all my reviews >

I've had my pengiun humidifier for a week and I love it. My Target had the pengiun, cow and frog, and I'm glad I got the pengiun! Besides being cute, I chose him because the mist comes out of his beak, allowing me to place the unit against the wall and point the mist out into the room. And because his head is also the cap on the reservoir, you can turn it to point the mist in different directions.

I followed the included instructions and placed it up on a shelf (the nightstand) and adjusted the amount of mist so it is evaporating into the air and not visibly falling downward. It cools and humidifies the area around my bed, without making the floor wet.

It also lasts longer than the stated 11 hours on the box. (That might be the minumum time if it's on high.) I've had it run 15-18 hours on lower settings.

Most of the time, mine makes a dripping sound which the manual said is okay. I find it soothing. It increases when the amount of mist output is increased.

Note on the switch: a previous review here said it had a push-button switch. Mine has the rocker switch in the back. The eyes are also different than the photo, so maybe I got a different version (older or newer?).

My ONLY complaint is that filling the reservior is a little awkward - it doesn't have a flat bottom to set it down, so you must hold it like a bowl.

Overall, I'd say this is a great humidifier for a small area, and not just for kids - conservative, modern design is appealing to adults too.

Great for the money... January 17, 2007 Reviewer:  Jeffrey J. Ahrnsen Real Name See all my reviews >

We've had this unit for almost a year and it's been great. Although a few of the reviews below seem to have had problems with the reservoir not filling properly, I wouldn't be too concerned. If you make sure that the body is seated properly, it will refill every time. It's a great little unit for the price, and I will probably buy another one some day.
