When my son graduated to a Britax Marathon carseat, I wanted to find something to make our frequent plane trips with the car seat easier. First of all, I NEVER trust checking the car seat. If they lose our luggage, we'll survive, but if they lose our car seat, we can't leave the airport. But gate-checking or taking the seat on-board with you means lugging the car seat around the airport with you when you're not on a plane, which can be cumbersome. I researched bags and settled on this one because:

1) It's backpack style. While the car seat is huge on your back, it's not heavy when it gets up there. I don't think it's possible for a person travelling alone with a child to handle the roller version along with a stroller, diaper bag, and their own carry-on. This is one less thing to carry, and the more free hands you have the better!
2) It's heavy duty. Reviews of less-expensive models said that while they were convenient, they tended to fall apart after a few trips. This one has been on three round-trip cross-country plane trips and has held up great and still looks brand new. The extra padding also makes it very comfy to wear.
3) It's quick and easy to zip and load or unload. This is great when there are impatient passengers on the airplane with you! And the larger car seats, like our Britax, fit easily.
4) It protects the car seat really well even if you gate-check it rather than taking the seat on the plane with you. I have been on flights where every car seat and stroller I saw gate-checked were damaged in some way except for mine, which was safe and sound in it's bag.

It is a hefty investment, but I figured spending this money up front was better than replacing a car seat multiple times. And the fact that this bag has made my plane trips so much easier makes it worth it's cost many times over!
