The first two I tried did not turn on at all. The third worked well for 2 days, and now I have to prop a piece of Q-tip between the volume knob and the housing, to have it stay on. The sound is good, there is a decent selection of noises, and the timer feature is simple, so I plan on returning the third one and trying again. It is the only decent looking / decent selection noisemaker I've seen in this price range.

I received this as a gift when pregnant with my first child (over 2 years ago) and I loved it. It was great to have a battery back up when the electric went out or going to G-ma's for the day. It's only been within the last couple of months that it stopped working on occassions. I've had to wiggle the volume control to get it started again. Not too bad for a 2 year old machine but my sister has had a sound machine that has lasted 9 years but is discontinued now (it also is very cluncky looking). I'm now in the market for another machine for my infant who has just started sleeping in his own bed (I use "sleeping" lightly he needs white noise). I may try something else if I can find one I like.

We've had ours since Nov 08 and haven't had any of the problems that other users are describing. It works perfectly! We bought ours to use after we brought our youngest home from the hospital because his crib will be in our room for awhile. It lulls him to sleep and my husband and I sleep sounder too. We prefer the ocean and rain settings. Hope this helps!

After reading, The Happiest Baby on the Block, we purchased this white noise machine for our son a year ago. The white noise feature works great.... when it is working! If you turn the knob to far on, it will cut off, sometimes it just quits in the middle of the night, and if the power happens to blink, the "start up" noise is birds chirping - not so great for a sleeping child. I am pregnant with my second and we will not purchase this particular item again.

My mother-in-law gave this to me for Christmas because I was stressed and having a hard time sleeping. IT WORKS PERFECTLY! like others have said, realistic sound, perfect volume and a convenient timer. my favorites are the rain and ocean, it does the trick. And now I'm pregnant and was having a bit of insomnia at night, and this little magic machine just lulled me to sleep! my husband & I use it every night.

I also experienced the same problems other described. The volume knob is very touchy on this machine and will often not work or shut off in the middle of the night. We use this as a white noise machine for my newborn so it is a MAJOR problem if it stops working in the middle of the night. I am going to look for a new sound machine.

We have had ours since December 2006 when our son was born. We pretty much leave it on all the time, just because we forget to turn it off. We have never had any problems with it. Amazing! I even bought one for my mom's house when he takes naps over there.

I purchased this as a recommendation from a friend after hearing how much my almost 3 year old son wakes up in the middle of the night and comes into our bed. This has helped 100%. He loves hearing the birds on the rainforest setting and is only waking-up once in the middle of the night and this is no longer every night. I like that it's easy to use in the middle of the night when it's dark--no need to turn on lights. It gets him right back to sleep once we turn it on. The timer feature is a good plus and the whole unit is lightweight. This worked great for our son and given us all much needed rest. We have tried so many other things and this is the one product that has been worth our money 100%.

We use this item to shut out noises while we sleep. It works perfectly, and we carry one with us eveywhere we go!

I turn this on when our grandchildren are here to help them sleep. It works like a charm!
