I ordered this machine for my granddaughter and am returning it! It sews about 5-10 stitches and jams. I'm an experienced sewer and I was frustrated in it's performance. I bought the machine after reading the reviews hoping it would be a great teaching tool. Wrong! Now I am having trouble returning it - to a store - which doesn't sell them and have to ship back to Target at my expense. I would NOT reccommend this machine.

I bought this machine after reading the on-line reviews here. I am 5'2" and became frustrated with trying to find pants that are the correct length and being overcharged by tailors for very simple alterations.
I have not operated a machine since junior high school, but I was able to follow the directions and get it threaded & running on my own (not as quickly as more experienced sewers, but it did not take me long at all). Also, I read through and followed the advice from the other reviewers here and purchased metal bobbins and new thread first.
Really like the smaller size of this machine (I can move it around very easily) and it has all the functions I could possibly need for simple alterations. I also got a very basic sewing guide at half-price books that had good advice about hemming, pinning, etc. Just needed a little bit of a refresher. For very heavy fabrics, such as denim, I sometimes just fold the hem under and hand-stitch to shorten, since I think cutting into some fabrics will be a bit tricky for me.
Would love to take a basic sewing class- - -yet even without it, I am still able to do what I intended to do with this machine. My friends' jaws have dropped when they compliment me on my pants/jeans and I tell them I taught myself to sew and I hemmed them on my own!
Also, this machine is just too cute, and it lifts my spirits just to look at it!

I just recently purchased this sewing machine on clearance at target. Yay....great deal. I love love love it. It is an addition to my brother sewing machine. I have already made 2 bags...My question though. What size bobbins does it use. The instructions don't specify and at joanns all the bobbins read not compatible with Janome...[...]

To answer your question about bobbin winding....there are directions in the manual, but here are mine if you are still having trouble:
Put spool on white peg in back.
Pull thread thru metal hook at the top left.
Bring thread forward to round metal disks located about front top of machine.
Put thread thru the little hole in the clear plastic bobbin...just choose 1 hole and go up from the inside to top of bobbin outside....the thread will poke out of hole on top of outside of bobbin.
Place bobbin on black peg at top right.
Push white circle (at black pegs right) to the left.
Pull large green circle (on machine's right side...it turns the needle...pull it out.
Now, hold end of thread at bobbin while you push down on presser foot. Cut that thread after bobbin spins for a little bit.
Stop presser foot once bobbiin is full of thread.
This is a GREAT machine for beginners! NOne of the other little kiddie sewing machines can even compare!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this machine for my 9 year old daughter and it's fabulous! SHe loves using it and it's easy to use. The speed is a bit slower than my own sewing machine which is perfect for younger kids. I was suprised how quiet it is when sewing, that's a big plus!! Overall it's a great sewing machine, highly recommend!!!

12/21/07: I purchased this Hello Kitty Sewing Machine for two reasons. 1. I love Hello Kitty. 2. I wanted to get into sewing. I heard great reviews from previous owners and I have to say this is a great machine. Remember to replace the plastic bobbin with a metal one, those work best for the machine. The machine works just as good as a regular sewing machine. Its very cute. I went to JOAnn Fabrics and bought a roller suitcase that fits the sewing machine and all the accessories very snug. The directions are clear and easy to understand. In 5 minutes I had the sewing machine up and running. Cant go wrong here!

When i first saw this i thought it was just a toy, and how it looks cheap-ish. but i took a risk in buying it, because i read all the reviews and most were positives so i gave it a shot. I have took sewing class for about 4months now, and when i first opened the box i was AMAZE!! at how light it is!
ITS SIMPLY CUTE AND WORKS LIKE A CHARM! it has a perfect speed for me it also comes with
-3plastic bobbins
-seam ripper
-and some extra needles
when i first put in the bobbin it was sorta difficult, but then i reread my instructions and saw what i did wrong. I bought it on sale the day after christmas at target! and i'm just amaze at how this machine is such GREAT QUALITY, if you want one of those brand singer go for it buy, seriously this works just as well but more lighter!, I RECOMEND THIS FOR ANYBODY who loves to sew simple things
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THOSE EXPENSIVE MACHINE! there just SOO CONFUSING!

I got this sewing machine after ordering it online a week ago while looking at the reviews, it made me want to get one. and I was excited to see it arrive home just today. When I opened it up, i was happy to see that it was brand new and it didn't look defected. i checked out the manual and followed its instructions. then it total*e works like magic. i exchanged the plastic bobbins with metal ones like what other people recommended and it's easier for the machine to work&sew. Now i can sew anything and make designs for whatever and show it off :o) AWESOME MACHINE AND I <3 hello kitty!! :DDDd

Don't be put off by the "Hello Kitty" design. This is a serious sewing machine and is EXCELLENT quality for the price. I have struggled with Singers for years and was shocked at how much better this machine operates. It picks up the bobbin thread like a dream (my Singers always had bobbin issues). It is really terrific and worth the price.

My super-cute Jenome Hello Kitty machine arrived yesterday afternoon and within a couple of hours, I had already made a set of placemats! I haven't sewn in YEARS, and when I learned as a child, my grandmother took care of all the tricky threading and bobbin winding parts. But I found the instruction manual easy to follow and had my machine up and going quickly. I encountered the same trouble with the plastic bobbins that other reviewers had, but once I switched to a metal bobbin it was smooth sailing.
