i've never successfully used a sewing machine before, but the great reviews on this one convinced me that maybe i could. they're right. this machine works like a dream. i took the advice and bought metal bobbins and a magnetic seam guide. i've already completed two curtains! the book walks you beautifully thru everything. i recommend this machine highly.

After reading the reviews on this site I ordered this little cutie to teach my grandaughter to sew on. Took about 5 days to arrive. Once out of box, bobbin wound I had it up and running in a very short time. Only had to adjust the top tension. I had a pair of childrens flannel pajamas cut out ahead of time. They were done within and hour, yes I am an expericed sewer. When I went to do the button holes on the pj top I found they were SO EASY!! A beginner sewer would be so proud of themselves to make perfect button holes, again SO EASY.

This is made by Janome, I do own a Janome Jem and this machine I would say is a Jem with a Hello Kitty jacket, but I will add doesn't sew as fast as the Jem.

i received this wonderful little machine for christmas. not only was it absolutely adorable, it was functional as well. but do not let the cute looks fool you....for a beginner like myself, the speed on this sewing machine is perfect. like the other users said, this machine is not cheaply made at all, it is very sturdy and pretty heavy for such a little thing. it is also very easy to use.

Based on the many positive reviews I purchased this machine to teach my daughters how to sew. i liked the looks of the machine and was impressed that it was from a high-end sewing machine manufacturer.

Well, I had problems from the get-go. First the machine would only sew in reverse. I contacted the company (which only has an email customer service available) and they helped me correct the problem. Secondly, we have to keep fiddling around with the bobbin.

This machine is fine for very simple, and short, sewing projects but anymore than that, count on your frustration level going up! I'm returning it...it's cute but just doesn't do the job.

As someone new to sewing I love this purchase! Once I figured out the sewing process I had no problems. The speed is perfect for a beginner. It's also compact so it doesn't take up a lot of space. I wish the manual provided information on compatible accessories to use with this sewing machine, however the other reviews posted are very helpful!

As for ordering from Target.com the process was super-easy! I was suprised to see the package at my door less than 48 hours of my purchase. Target also makes the return process easy - this item is returnable at the store should it not work out.

For the price & my needs (crafts, clothing & repairs), this sewing machine is the perfect purchase for me. And I can't help but smile everytime I see Hello Kitty ; )

I bought this machine after quite a bit of research and pondering about whether or not my 8 year old could really use it (with help). So far, it has been a huge hit! Its' size and portability have been great. We can move it to wherever she wants to set it up without a huge hassle. It was easy to get started and foolproof so far. Very straightforward, nothing terribly fancy, but it has a nice zig zag feature and a couple of different stich lengths.
So far we have been really happy with this machine, and I am hopeful we will be able to use it for many years.

I received this machine about a month ago. I have had some of the same issues in terms of the bobbin locking up. That is definitely frustrating, but I found that by ensuring the bobbin thread that peeks out is put to the left side of the little lever on the bobbin holder, it has a lot fewer entanglement problems. One problem I have had is the thread coming out of the needle while I am sewing. Other than those issues, I really find it extremely non-intimidating and simple to use for an absolute first-time beginner. My sewing machine experience until this machine consists of only once using my mother-in-law's Singer, and I appreciate the slower pace of the HK machine. The food pedal is very sensitive and easy to control. I have so far made three cushions, hemmed very thick jeans (the foot impressively handled the doubled-up layers of denim) and three other pairs of pants and I actually just finished the second of two quilts for my niece. I bought a quilting foot attachment for it that was made for generic low shank machines that you simply screw on and off with a screwdriver and it works perfectly. ($20 at JoAnn's Fabrics). I also bought the Gutterman thread and the magnetic seam guide as one of the reviewer's recommended, and I've been very pleased with the results so far. I love it.

I read all of the reviews and ordered this machine and have had a terrible time with it. We have done very little sewing with it as every time we have to reinsert the entire bobbin mechanism as it gets tangled with thread and locks up. I think I am going to get rid of it. It is not worth the frustration.

i just love this machine! i'm a beginner, and i just learned how to sew. i sewed my very first shirt and dress on this little machine. it works great! it's so cute and small, you can take it anywhere. it doesnt go too fast, which is really good. it comes with a cover, bobbins and other stuff. it rocks! the stitching is great and it comes with a bunch of differant stitches. this is great for beginners and its especially great for hellkitty lovers!

I love this machine. When one of my friends saw it, she said it was a child's sewing machine. But it is far from that, despite its looks. It makes beautiful straight stitches and is very quiet. It's small size is a bonus for storing it and carrying it. Fabulous!
