Awful July 12, 2006 Reviewer:  itschowtime "itschowtime" See all my reviews >

This is the worst thing I have ever purchased from Target. I wanted this cover to reduce dust to help my allergies. The cover was made of a really thin, cheap-feeling material -- thinner than a vinyl shower curtain liner. It was easy to put on my box-spring (which it says on the package that this can be used for a box-spring as well). When putting the mattress onto the metal frame of my bed, very gently with 2 people holding it up mind you, it ripped. Not in 1 place but in 6 places. What a piece of junk. A good idea but needs to be more durable.

Not Bad... December 27, 2006 Reviewer:  Stacey Alison "Stace" (Ridgewood, NJ USA)  See all my reviews >

I had to get these covers due to a bed bug infestation in my apartment. Having read the first review, I was a little scared that the covers would turn out to be junk. I placed once on my mattress, and the other on the box spring, and both are fine. I was very careful when I put them over the components, so who knows- maybe that helped me. I don't even notice they're there, though I am sure others would! I'm just glad I didn't have to pay 3-4 times the price for the same thing offered at bedding places.

Poor Vinyl Material & Zipper March 4, 2007 Reviewer:  Mom of Four (Atlanta, GA)  See all my reviews >

I purchased this item to cover a twin matress to alleviate dust mite allergies. My husband & I were very careful putting it on, but the zipper came apart. This caused the vinyl to tear away from the zipper as well. The vinyl is extremely thin, more so than a cheap shower curtain. We ended up flattening the plastic and tucking it in all the way around to cover the matress (similar to using a top sheet as a substitute for a bottom sheet). This is a very disappointing product. We were unable to exchange it because there weren't any other twin size waterproof matress covers in stock at our store.

Reviewer below retarded.... September 22, 2006 Reviewer:  your mom (Virginia United States)  See all my reviews >

This product made for a MATTRESS. The purpose is to protect the matress, from getting dirty or wet. The reviewer below tried to put it on the metal frame of the bed??? No wonder why it ripped! LOL.

Excellent for the price! March 19, 2007 Reviewer:  Dmasmommy See all my reviews >

I purchased this for my brand new pillow top mattress. I needed a 16' not a 12' so I purchased another one at [a bed and bath store], because Target do not offer a 16' I used this one on my box springs instead. It did not rip at all. My husband and I gently put it on and gently put the box springs down into to the frame. It is perfect no rips or tears. Please do not be hesitant to buy this based on the other reviews.

Temporary solution February 7, 2008 Reviewer:  Lula (CA)  See all my reviews >

There's a light bed bug issue with my queen size mattress, and the cover was able to keep them sealed in without having purchase a new mattress. However, it's only been a couple of months, and the cover is sadly falling apart. The material is affordable but certainly not very durable. I will be looking into other mattress covers.

Help Kill the bedbugs July 12, 2008 Reviewer:  Beez (Newport News, VA USA)  See all my reviews >

To the knee-jerk genius who suggested getting a new mattress: read up on the new bedbug epidemic. You can stay in a hotel ONCE and bring them home with you - do you really plan on buying a new mattress each time?

That being said, this product would be better if it used a higher gauge of vinyl. It works for what it is, but you'll need a new one in a few months.

Skeeved March 12, 2009 Reviewer:  disgusted (philadelphia, pa, usa)  See all my reviews >

I just wanted to know about the quality of the plastic. Now my entire body is itching due to the many bed bug comments.I don't think I'll use the cover as I never want to go near a bed again. I used to sleep 12 hours a day. I guess I'll be more productive now. I was going to look into a hair dryer, but I am going to leave it alone. I fear I'll only find comments about lice being dehydrated by the heat or blasted off of the scalp by the air flow. Do I dare look into underpants? I think not.
And the best way to keep your mattress from smelling like cigarettes is to smoke outside of the bedroom.

reply to a previous (ignorant) comment August 24, 2008 Reviewer:  Knowledgeable See all my reviews >

to RC in Mpls: Because bed bugs do not hide only in mattresses, but also around mattresses, simply getting rid of the mattress is usually completely ineffective. In fact, most specialists do not recommend disposing of the mattress, because this is expensive and ineffective. The best way to deal with bed bugs is to keep the area around the bed clean and clear of clutter, and to regularly check for bed bug signs. Part of the solution may be to purchase a high quality mattress cover, which can prevent any bed bugs in the mattress from biting you (and in the long run will kill them).

I would purchase a vinyl cover that is of a higher gauge, or a (tightly) woven cover, so that it does not tear. These sound very flimsy to me.
