I agree - this would be a much better toy if it was more sturdy and durable. My daughter loves it, however, and that's really what matters. She enjoys talking to Ariel and pretending to use the styling tools. The curling iron does open and wrap around the hair. It doesn't actually curl, but it operates exactly as I'd expect a play curling iron to operate. This certainly isn't the best toy out there, but if you are prepared for it being a bit unsturdy, your child will probably enjoy it as much as mine does. =)

My daughter is three years old and she loves this toy. The colors are just beautiful and she thinks its magic when Ariel appears in the mirror! I do have to agree with the other reviewers in the fact that this is not a very sturdy item...but it seems that way with most things now days. It was what I expected for the cost and I feel that it was well worth it. Beware though...Ariel does say to use the scissors and cut your hair. This is such a stupid thing to say to young children. Now I have to really keep an eye on her not to really do it. Keep the real scissors far out of reach and you should be okay though.

This toy is not as sturdy as I would like, but will defintely hold up until my daughter outgrows it in a couple of years. The assembly is much easier than the ariel kitchen and doesn't take very long. I was a little disappointed that the voice that speaks to you is not Ariel. Regardless, My 3 year old can't wait to play with it as soon as she wakes up in the morning! It was worth the $$ spent.

purchased this item for a 3yr old. The vanity is very colorful and attractive. However, the seat is plastic and thin with no stability and therefore creating a very dangerous product. Because this product is made to attract young children, it is foreseeable that a child would want to use the seat as a step stool and that is extremely dangerous. I have to get rid of it because it is too dangerous. It's difficult enough for a 3yr old to sit on it (due to its lack of stability) so to try and stand on in it is too dangerous and not safe. The product should be taken off the market.

Do not purchase this item! It is cheaply made as well as it tells children to cut their hair. My 3 year old took 5 inches off of her hair because Ariel told her to do so! [...] I will admit that it is funny, but I do not think that a product should encourage children to be cutting their hair and using scissors. I am very disappointed that Disney would put out a product like this.

MY 3 YEAR OLD INFANT DAUGHTER LOVES THE LITTLE MERMAID AND THIS VANITY. I ON THE OTHER HAND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE GOTTEN THE SLEEPING BEAUTY VANITY THAT SEEMS TO OFFER MORE. WITH THIS VANITY SEBASTIANS ARM WAS BROKE WHEN WE OPENED THE BOX, THE PURPLE THING THAT LOOKS LIKE A LIGHT IS NOT A LIGHT, AND THE VANITY IS NOT STURDY ON CARPET! NOT THAT I THINK IT WOULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY IF IT TIPPED OVER BUT I MOVED THIS TOY ONTO A FLAT SURFACE TO BE SURE. I ALSO SUPPORT OTHERS COMMENTS ABOUT THE CURLING IRON AND SCISSORS.

My little girl just adores The Little Mermaid! If she could swim in the sea with a fin she would already be there!!LOL She just wants Ariel everything!!=-) This toy was soooo hard to find! [...] Anyways, once I surprised my little girl with this BEAUTIFUL salon!! She was in love! To this day she plays with it constantly! She loves seeing Ariel come in the Mirror and talk to her! It is the highlight of her day! We are very happy with our purchase!

My 3 year old daughter loves this salon. The salon is very cute and allows for hours of role play for any child who loves Ariel. Ariel does appear, but it is not her voice that responds. The product is not very sturdy, but I would recommend it for any Ariel fan.
