I just finished repacking two of these (a huge pain-more than you would think) and both were profoundly damaged-or missing parts (no hardware whatsoever). I'm pretty peeved. I read the reviews and saw that some folks had great luck. I was definitely not one of them. The "wooden"-particle board with ultrathin veneer-parts were all fraying at the edges, some holes weren't drilled correctly and one box came sans hardware. I returned the stuff at the store and that was the only part of the whole experience that went well. Just terrible. If your looking for a decent shelf or a hassle free transaction look elsewhere.

My husband and I bought this for our apartment. It took the both of us (with screwdrivers in hand) most of the Academy Awards to put it together, but it is just wonderful. Sturdy, pretty and functional - we love this bookshelf. You can't beat it for the price...we are getting another!

I love Target

First of all, a lot of the pieces don't seem to fit together. After much difficulty, I got half of it together and then realized the right side panel had a huge crack in it. [...] Finally my Target store got more in, and I exchanged the panel [...] I got it home, put it together, and then I see that the NEW panel also had a big crack in the same spot! It also leans forward and doesn't seem so sturdy, but I don't want to fasten it to the wall because I live in an apartment and don't want to put big holes in the wall. All in all, a waste of money. The two-shelf bookcase in this collection is fine, but this one is just a piece of garbage. But hey, it LOOKS nice.

It looks really nice and while I had some trouble putting it up I am happy with the end result. But it was missing 1 piece (which I had to call 4 times to get sent to me and then wait a week) and another piece didn't have the holes it was supposed to.

I looked around at several Targets before finally purchasing this bookcase. The reason i waited so long was that the only one i could find in the city had it's box all ripped open on one end. [...]
After my boyfriend and i assembled it completely in about 1.5 hours we realized that there was nothing wrong with the piece except a few minor scratches on some of the shelves. Which are now hidden by books and board games. All the legs and sides of it look perfect. I am very pleased with this new addition to our living room. It goes great with our other furniture and i'm thinking of purchasing the 2 shelf version as well.
I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for the directions and minor scratches. But if you just look at the pictures only and don't read anything, the directions make a lot more sense. And the scratches really were very minor since you can't even see them now with books on the shelves.

It took me four hours to get this bookcase half set up, and it's really just terrible. Cheaply made, many of the fastenings don't fit, difficult to put together. Go to ikea.

I bought 2 five shelf units and one three. The three shelf unit was fine, the other two had 2-3 damaged parts. When I call for replacements, got the impression the phone person was more inconvienced than I was (not once did she say she was sorry) - they could have done much better on customer service! Inspite of this, they are nice units for the price, went together fairly well and look nice. Make sure you check the box to see that it hasn't been opened, otherwise expect a week delay for new parts.

There was no visible damage or missing pieces upon opening as everything was pack nicely. The instructions are easy to understand and putting it together requires little effort. The thing to watch out for is that the Cam Locks can be damage if turn the wrong way.
It looks and feels very solid. I plan to buy another bookcase soon.

We searched for a long time for a bookcase and most were over $300.00. We almost purchased one and found this one at Target. We were very excited because of the price. Yes the instructions are confusing, but it eventually comes together.
Many of the screws did not fit in the back, but we did not have any scratches!
Very nice Look and Sturdy!

I found this bookshelf very easy to put together; sure there are alot of preparation steps, but once the unit starts coming together, the assembly moves along quickly. it is a beautiful unit for the price. i put mine together 2 days ago , filled it up with my stuff last night and im going back for another one after work! a great buy!!
PS: matches perfectly with the hudson computer desk.
