Nice, but I'm afraid to move it

This piece looks nice once set up but it's not very sturdy. I'm afraid to even touch it in fear that it might completely fall apart. If I wanted a better shelf I realize now that I need to pay more.

Pretty, but flawed.

While this piece of furniture is quite attractive for its price range, the product quality leaves much to be desired. My fiance assembled it entirely before noticing a huge gash along the front of the shelf. We decided to keep it, and colored it in with some stain of the same color. The shelf was not big enough for us, so we decided to buy another. The second shelf was dented and had a large hole in one of the pieces. We returned it to the store and were brought out a sorry looking replacement. The box had holes and dents in it, but we decided to risk it. The third shelf was not visibly damaged, so he proceeded with the assembly. He is halfway through it right now, and he has found that some of the plastic pieces that you screw into are loose. We put some glue on to try and fasten them, and have crossed our fingers. Hopefully this one won't share the same fate as its predecessor.

Pretty, but not an easy assembly

Very nice to look at. I love the dark espresso color. However, it was definitely a challenge to assemble. The wood is somewhat soft, and at the times I was using a screwdriver I worried I would split the wood. As a previous individual mentioned, I wonder if it would hold up in a move. When putting in the 3 moveable shelves, I nicked the front of the case by just gently bumping the shelf up against it while putting in inside. If I had not already put it together, I would probably not make the same purchase again and spend more money on something of better quality and sturdiness.

I am always leary about buying cheap furniture, but for $80 this is SUCH a GREAT deal. I was looking for a black bookcase like this one, but couldn't find anything for under $250-$300. I settled for this one and it is beautiful and very nicely made (assembly is a little much, thank God my husband helped with some of those 46 screws you have to put in just the back panel!). I don't think you will ever find a large, nice piece of furniture like this for [such a low price]! I wish they sold more pieces in the same finish that would connect - you could create a whole library for a couple hundred bucks.

This bookcase was a small challenge to assemble but was definitely worth the effort. It looks like a nice piece of furniture and feels solid as well.

Once put together, our new bookcase looks wonderful, however, putting it together took over 2 hours! The pieces of "wood" don't exactly line up together and I'm wondering how the piece will hold up if we ever wanted to move it. But for the price, you can't beat it, even if it doesn't last forever!!

We bought this to use as a bookcase and to house our dvd & vcr. My husband put it together with ease and you would never guess that it was a cheap piece of furniture. It could be tippy if little ones tried to climb it so we will mount it to the wall. The color is a true espresso- a deep, rich brown.

I ordered this bookshelf bc it looks more elegant than most bookselves, but you really get what you pay for. It's not the best quality materials and it's not as sturdy as I would like. My package came with damaged pieces, probably from poor handling while shipping. I called Target.com and they had excellent customer service and offered to send me another one without any additional shipping charges. Unfortunately, the second shipment also came with brokent pieces!! Luckily, I was able to find good pieces from both sets to put the bookshelf together. [...] In summary, this bookshelf worked out in the end but not without some pain.
I have to say that I'm VERY impressed with customer service from Target.com. I've called them at all hours and have gotten a live rep on the phone really quickly. YOu can't say that for many places these days.

These look so fantastic! I purchased 3 of them to line up next to eachother. I did not use the backs so that we could see the negative spaces (the backs of these do look a little cheap because you can see the line in them). We are using them for style, not function, so we are not putting a ton of books on them, mainly frames and baskets and vases, etc. These look like shelving from upscale trendy furniture stores. They were easy to put together, took about 45 minutes each. The smell was not bad as the other reviews stated either. Everything lined up when we put them against the wall too. Amazing, as I purchased them when they were on sale too.
