I have mixed feelings about this bookcase. It's very cute and I think that it will do quite well for the purpose I need it for. I was annoyed that there were NO DIRECTIONS and absolutely no way to find out how to get them. One of the shelves was painted pink on the wrong side. It went together very easily (considering we had no directions) and it seems quite sturdy and looks adorable. The shipping was free and the price was great. I just wish that the shelf would have been right but my biggest complaint was the NO directions. My infant daughter won't be using it that much for awhile but it's adorable in her room.

The pros? The dollhouse is cute. It comes with fabric storage bins, which other dollhouse bookcases sell separately. And it's spacious and will fit a lot of books & toys. But putting this thing together was agony. It took 2 hours -- and I'm a major DIY-er. I was upset to find out that they had mislabeled a board so that when I put it together, the cam-bolt lock was visible on the TOP of the bookshelf, which is unattractive. The fabric bin covers up this flaw, but there was obviously an error in production, and if I chose to take the bin out, it's there for all to see. Further, the company cheaped out and substituted wood dowel rods for half the joints, which isn't too bad, but made life complicated with both cam-bolts & gluing dowel rods. I was also really mad to find out that the steeple (the triangular space at the top) really is just wasted space & decorative. I was hoping that you could slide oversized books under the facade, but nope, it's blocked off from underneath and from behind. A couple extra rooms for the dollhouse thus goes wasted. (DH mentioned that maybe we could drill a hole in the backboard and my daughter can put toys in from behind, but I think that it's a tipping hazard to have kids play in front and behind the case.) The backboard is another story altogether. It's cardboard and comes with what seems like a thousand little screws. However, while the holes in the cardboard is pre-drilled, the holes in the back of the shelf unit is not. Thus, you're getting carpal tunnel syndrome trying to get these little screws in, which BTW, require an extra-small phillips screwdriver, which I was VERY lucky to have handy. I finally gave up half-way through and yanked out a hammer and my own nails and put them in instead of the screws that came with the set. If it didn't seem like more of a hassle to return the thing, I would have done so in a blink. For this amount of money, it didn't seem worth the effort. Just spend a little more and get something better than cheap particle board painted in China. Or else buy a cheap little dollhouse case from a craft store and paint it yourself, like my smarter friend did.
