It almost works if you run it inside your freezer

Ok, I froze the canister overnight in my chest freezer, cooked the ice cream mixture (from the recipe in the manual) and chilled overnight in my refrigerator, and followed all the directions completely.
After 20 minutes of mixing, the motor overheated, and shut off. The only way I could get it to run again, was to put the whole mixer in the freezer to cool off. Luckily, that helped to start the chocolate milk freezing. I then pulled it back out, and started it mixing again. Apparently, it had been too long since I pulled the canister out originally, and it all started melting again.
So, being an engineer, I moved things around in the freezer so the whole unit fit on one of the shelves, grabbed an extension cord and routed it over the top of the fridge, and ran the ice cream maker inside the freezer. Now, 2 hours after starting, I have some soupy, somewhat frozen chocolate milk. Anybody that says they get anywhere near soft serve consistency from this machine is joking.
I'll be buying an old fashioned, ice cubes and rock salt in the bucket type ice cream maker very soon. At least I know those work.

I got this as a bridal shower gift and am seriously disappointed- not with the gift in general but with this machine. I was so excited when I received it! I froze the canister in the freezer overnight, and I chilled my icecream mixture overnight in the fridge. After my very patient 24 hours, I put it in the icecream machine, and all seemed well, for the first 30 minutes. Then the machine started to smell funny, and just stopped working- I can hear the motor still wanting to run but the spatula has stopped turning. I'm bummed that my friend not only wasted her money on a gift that doesn't work, but that I wasted my money on expensive icecream ingredients (tahitian vanilla beans hello?!). I'll be calling the company with a complaint, I'm hoping I'll be able to get my money back, because frankly this item was a total dissapointment and I'd like an icecream maker that-um-actually makes icecream.

I bought this machine and wish I hadn't of bothered. I am taking it back to the store. I read all the instructions and still the unit did not work well. I froze the bowl for 12 hours, the liquid didn't slosh around, put the mixture into the fridge for a few hours as well before adding it, and after 40 minutes, the mixture was no thicker than it was coming out of the fridge. The motor also turned itself off automatically to protect it from burning out at the 40 minute mark. I am disappointed, but you get what you pay for.

Well misery apparently does love company because it at least made me feel better to read others were as dissatisfied with this machine as I was. It was a waste of my time to buy it, use it and now it will waste more of my limited time to return it.

I just purchased this ice cream maker yesterday for a party. I purchased it in the morning and the party was going to start at 5pm. "It was soo not ready for the party"...you have to put the bottom part in the freezer for over 8-9 hours and when it was finally ready to use, the party was over. I finally used it today and the ice cream melts into a shake fast! Another problem I had was that the top part keeps coming off while it's on....I had to get up at least 7 times or more to put it back on...I do not recommend this product! I'm going to return it today.
