I bought this for my son, who loves large die-cast race cars and Speed Racer. He will be turning 4 in a few weeks. The package recommends it for age 14+. In the past, I have purchased these type of die-cast cars for him to play with. Some hold up well, and others do not.

The age recommendation seems to be based upon how easy the toy could break with the rougher play of a younger child. I assume it is recommended for kids who collect these type of cars. I don't think many 14 year olds are actually playing with cars at their age.

I try to find large die-cast cars that have little to no movable pieces (with the exception of the tires, of course.) They are not that easy to find BTW. Doors that open tend to get ripped off. Sideview mirrors are usually goners within a day or two. This car does not have any of those things.

The car is very well made, which is essential for the rough play my son subjects his toys to. There is a little hatch door on top that flips open. I expect that will be torn off soon, but other then that, the rest of the car is pretty solid. It should last for a while.
