Another Unhappy Schwinn Customer

This bike is great if you don't switch gears. I was biking about 30 min from home, switched gears and the gears ended up shredding from the chain. They don't appear to be made of metal, or very cheap tin metal. Anyway, great bike, just don't switch gears unless you can carry a bike home for 30 minutes.

I say that because it's only $200. But, it is a top-of-the-line $200 bike.
Mechanically speaking, the frame and wheels are very solid, and the braking system is very responsive. The gear ratios leave a little bit to be desired, but realistically, you probably wouldn't make use of all of the bike's 18 gears just riding it around a college campus like I do. One bad thing I experienced was that on the second day I owned it, the chain snapped, but it was a quick fix at the local bike shop and only cost $5 for a replacement master-link. More than likely this was endemic to my bike specifically as an issue. The Shimano derailleurs shift the gears very smoothly without a lot of skipping or clicking.
Ergonomically speaking, for me, being a larger guy and about 6' even, after raising the seat and tilting forward the handlebars a bit, the bike fit my form very evenly and gave me pretty good weight distrobution on the tires. The grips and seat will probably get replaced, because they aren't exactly up to my specs, but again, the bike only costs $200, so I can't complain.

I bought this bike for my son 6 months ago to ride on campus while at college. While riding this bike to class last week the handle bars completely broke off and my son totally wiped out. He was lucky he was not seriously injured because he was not wearing a helmet. Target only has a 90 day warranty on this product so they will not do anything and Pacific Cycle (manuf. of Schwinn) was not available to help either. I have always bought Schwinn bikes but not anymore.

Sweet bike until it was stolen

Pros - smooth ride, 18 speeds (NOT 21), comes with a convenient rack on the back (buy bungie cords), better quality components then Schwinn's lower-end models
Cons - Needed breaks adjusted to keep front wheel from running up against it. Also needed gears adjusted. Note that I knew nothing about adjusting these things but did it on my own after playing around with it. Also, seat is very uncomfortable. Buy a saddle. I bought a Cloud 9 gel seat and loved it.
Finally, yes, this bike was stolen from me. It was locked with a Masterlock cord lock from Target (so don't buy one of those). I live in Hermosa Beach, CA. So if you jacked mine, please return it :) I paid for this bike and only had it for about 6 months, so I'm quite upset about it. Thanks.

I was looking for a bike in the $75 - $100 price range and checked out several at Target. I compared at 2 other stores and ended up back at Target and chose this bike instead. The Quality and Features were why I upgraded to a higher priced bike. I will be using this bike for commuting to work and it will work very well. I like the smoother tires and feel to the other mountain bikes I looked at.

I have a 6'03", 12 year old son. All his life he's had trouble finding the right fit. This bike is a good, solid bike that fits a larger frame very well. I've even taken it for a spin, and at 6'04", and over 255lbs, the bike did wonderfully. The only problem with this bike would have to be that the workers at the store assembling really aren't bike experts. They slap them together as fast as they can like a store manager would expect. After purchasing the bike, my son had problems with it skipping gears, not shifting properly, and chain falling from gears. I took it into the garage, gave it a tune up, 30 minutes later, back on the road with no problems. (It should also be noted that I'm not a bike expert, but pretty simple following the directions in the book.) He's had it 6 months now, and I've not needed to make any further adjustments. I would strongly recommend this bike. I would also recommend doing a tune up before thinking you will take it on a long ride. I've also heard that if you aren't good with tools, it's pretty inexpensive to take it to a bike shop and have them do a tune up for you.

I attached a Bell brand baby seat onto the back of this bike and it has worked pretty well so far. You have to take the rack off, but then it works fine.
The ride is really smooth on this bike. I should probably get it tuned because the shifting could be smoother than it is. My only complaint is the seat is really uncomfortable for a "comfort bike." My rear hurt after only 5 minutes of riding. I'm going to have to buy a seat pad. I'm a woman, so I don't know if that makes a difference. I've been really happy with it so far.

This is an outstanding bike for the money; my girlfriend and I bought these bikes a couple of weeks ago at Target, and we couldn't be happier. I'm a big guy (6 foot 1, 255 pounds), and my biggest concern was finding a bike that could support my weight comfortably...and this bike does that. The gears are easy to shift, and everything about this bike is comfortable and user friendly. The seat is easy to adjust and the ride is as smooth as they come. We spent months shopping for bikes, and I'm so happy that we chose this particular model.

After using it for a few month, the metal from the handlebars split apart while I was using it. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy this bike for safety reasons.

When you buy an inexpensive bike(I go my Clear Creek [...] on sale)you get what you pay for.I've been riding mine for over a year and it's just getting to be time for a new chain. You just can't beat Schwinn for reliability.I ride more than the casual bike rider.I used to ride 30 miles a day and my longest ride for one day is 85 miles with a trailer. The ride and shifting have been consistantly smooth.Brakes still work fine.I highly recommend this bike for people like me who are over 200 lbs.
