Great Bike

This (Schwinn Clear Creek) is my third bike in a week.
I bought a Traik (forgive my spelling) from the new target in Broken Arrow, Ok. It was a GREAT bike but the back brake cable kept hitting my foot when riding. A zip-tie would not fix, no I took it back due to this slight oversight my the MFG.
Then the devil made me drive to another stoer(yuk...what happened to sam walton's vison of "buy american" ?) and I bought a Mongoose XR250 and ended up taking it back. It was really cool bike with all the features, but it was so hard to peddle. It did not "coast". The large tires would drag it vs. my peddeling. Nice bike, not for me. Overkill.
So on Sunday I saw the Taget flyer the Schwinn "Ranger" was on sale, plus others as well. I looked at the "Ranger", the "Cimmeron" and came home with the "Clear Creek" The "Clear Creek" had the Shimano gears and the rack (I know it's funny looking, (the rack) but it may come in handy if I stop somewhere) the cimmeron was nice as well, but I kept leaning towards the Clear Creek.
I know, I should have gone to a bike shop, but I ride for enjoyment, not competition and this bike (Clear Creek) was a great bike for me, to get some exercise and and get going. You never know....a #189 bike from Target may leed to a sale at a bike shop in 10 years. At least I am ON the bike and not sitting on the couch watching "The Office" if I get serious enough, I can get a nice one at a bike shop, but for now, the "Clear Creak" is fine. Just wish it was made in USA......the best country in the world !

GREAT BIKE, TERRIBLE TARGET SERVICE!

When I first purchased this bike from Target, it seemed to be working fine. However, all was not well. It seems that Target had assembled the bike wrong, and the gears were skipping (see 1 star review addressing this problem). So, upon returning the bike to Target for repair, I learned that it was missing a few parts.
HOW CAN TARGET MANUFACTURE AND SELL A BIKE WITH MISSING PARTS???
Anyway, about 7 (yes, SEVEN) months after giving the bike in for repair (we sent it in around September, they gave it back around March of the next year) they called and said, your bike is ready for pick up.
Now, the bike works perfectly, as though there were no flaws whatsoever. The front suspension is great for jumping off of curbs without worrying that your wheel will end up being bent out of recognition. Also great for absorbing the small shocks in between sidewalk blocks.
BOTTOM LINE
TARGET SERVICE: 1/5
BIKE ITSELF: 5/5

For the bikes features this is the best bang for your buck. Great quality, upright riding position is really comfortable.

I almost bought one of these a few weeks ago. But, a couple of things I didn't like. #1) As another reviewer noted, the saddle (seat) is BAD. #2) It's a steal frame...heavier than an aluminum framed bike. #3) I picked the bike up by the handlebar & spun the front tire. It went around once and STOPPED! The front tire was out-of-true. (wobbled) Why buy a bike that needs a tune-up right from the store? Want the best Schwinn? Go to a Schwinn retailer and spend the extra bucks. You'll get a MUCH BETTER BIKE!

I haven't owned a bike since I was a child. I'm mid 50's. I researched and researched and bought this model. [...]
I took it to the local bike shop before I rode it. One wheel was out of true and the brakes needed a slight adjustment. But the guy said it was a good bike. I've only ridden it several times since I bought it but it rides good for me.
However, and I don't know if this is a problem with all bikes, but I was adjusting the seat and flipped the lever and the seat fell and clipped a small chunk out of my thumb. Yes, I was bleeding all over the place. I haven't had a chance to look at other bike seats but the edge of the middle hoobie joobie had sharp edges. Just right for cutting flesh.
One word about bike shops. I live in an area where I can choose between 6 bikes shops. I called and ask what they would charge for a new bike tune up. The prices ranged from $50 to $75. I ended up going to this place right down the rode that sells primarilary to bike pro's and they did the tuneup for $15.00. Shop around if you have that option.
Yea, I know Target and Walmart are badmouthed by bike enthusiasts but they certainly have a good selection, better than the bike shops, the Target that I bought my bike from had over 10 models to choose from. The local bike shops? 1 to maybe 4 models to choose from. The cheapest from $300 to $600. Do your research!
Schwinn has so many models to choose from so I zeroed in on the options that I wanted. Yea, I know the history of Schwinn and some of their bikes have gotten bad reviews while others (this model) received great reviews.
I gave it 4 stars because I haven't own it that long.
So far I have no regrets.

We bought two of this bike at our local Target store. One for my husband, and one for myself (the ladies version was much too tall for me).
The bikes ride absolutely beautifully and the butt and back pain that came with my mountain bike are gone. The suspension seat and front fork make paths that used to rattle my bones quite easy and pleasant to ride on. The new twisting gear shifts are about 1000x easier to use than the old thumb on a lever kind, and the gears are clearly labeled. The adjustable handlebars make creating a comfortable ride easy. The included rack is just a wonderful bonus convenience. It's just a great comfort bike. A pleasure to ride. Would make a good commuter bike, I think.
My only complaint about the bike itself is that I wish that it was geared a little bit higher. I'd like to be able to get a little more speed with a little less pedaling, but I'm no racer, so this isn't that big of a deal.
One problem though, which has nothing to do with the bike and everything to do with assembly, is that you really have to take a look at how Target has put things together. One bike was perfect, and the other needs the brake pads moved and adjusted, the handlebars need to be tightened, etc. It's just kind of a mess. But once it's tightened and adjusted it'll be good to go.

I bought this bike today. I have only used it for about a half hour so far, but I really like it. It has been about ten years since I have owned a bike, and I didn't use that one very often because, despite a high price, it was not very comfortable or easy to use. This one has a nice seat, the breaks are steady, and the gears shift very smoothely. I love it.

Yes, this is a steel bike, not aluminum but it is still a light bike. I think aluminum bikes are not much lighter because they basically are made of more metal, thicker metal, while steel bikes are just as stong with thinner metal. This bike is an 18 speed, not a 21 like the ad says however it shifts very smooth with the twist shifters.
It is very comfortable with shocks in the front and in the seat stem. It is almost a rugged as a mountain bike but much more comfortable and the center part of the tire is smooth for fast road travel but the edges of the tire have nice tread for the trail.
I sold my 10 year old Trek Mountain Bike before getting this and it is a huge improvement for me. Most comfortable bike I've ever ridden and you don't sacrafice much in terms of speed or off-road capability.
The cargo rack makes it look like an older persons bike but this thing performs great and I actually use the rack for my bag when I ride to work.
