The reason I came to this web site was because I wanted to voice the problem I've had with BOTH of the TWO B/D water dispensers I purchased at Target. I suspected that I wasn't the only one with the problem, and low and behold the other reviews verify it. Between the two dispensers, we went through (6) bottles of water ($35 including first time bottle deposits --2 different brands to be sure my problem wasn't the water brand). I called the B/D 800 number and was told to do a thorough draining, cleaning of dispenser tubing and probe set -- (recommended every 3 months) -- although I just purchased it. I took the time to disassemble and wash parts in recommended concentration of bleach and water, and was excited that maybe this would resolve the problem.... IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM! Worst of all, the packaging says "Do not return to the store." so now I have to bother contacting B/D again and figure out how to get a refund for this faulty product -- TWO of them!--- and go spend more of my time and energy trying to find a remedy for their poor manufacturing. From the other (2) reviews on this web site, I can see we are not losing our minds -- the dispenser RUINS the taste of the water. Target -- with these reviews on your website, I would expect that you would consider returning the products to B/D before your customers purchase them and experience the same aggravation -- if you're truly customer focused and value your reputation for quality products. This is the THIRD review with the same problems.

Do not buy this cooler. Wife and I bought when it was on sale about a month or so ago. Just like others...we ran tons of water through it and I cleaned it twice. The water tasted like burnt motor or something along those lines. Luckly we still had receipt and took back...Target refunded money. BEWARE! Trust me...don't even try it thinking it will not happen to you...or that you can fix it.

My wife and I bought this to replace an older cooler that broke, excited about what a good deal we got. Also, the buttons were higher which made it more difficult for our toddler to get to.

We had our first problem right away in that it is impossible to load this cooler without spilling water everywhere. It is designed for sealed bottles that you would get from a water service not for the normal 5 gallon bottles that most home users have.

The 2nd problem came the first night, the unit is loud. I mean really loud, annoying, but what can you do.

The 3rd and MAIN problem, the reason we're going to have to load it up and take it back to Target this week is it makes water taste AWFUL. We've run 30 gallons through this machine and it makes the water taste horrible. It has a smokey or rubbery, burnt taste. It literally is undrinkable. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BUY THIS PRODUCT, it is worthless.

I've had this cooler for at least 6 months and my wife and I are very satisfied. I can't say that we've experienced the problem reviewers have had with the taste of the water. It taste fine to us and all our visitors. In fact, dispensers shouldn't change the taste of the water at all. The hot water from this dispenser is very hot and the cold very cold... you don't even need ice.

This dispenser performs as advertised for me. Cold water is crisp and tastes clean (thankfully no plastic or rubbery taste as others have reported); hot water is great for tea or instant oatmeal or whatever and is very hot. I have not had any of the issues mentioned in other reviews, though I notice that most were written earlier in the year - so maybe Target has corrected the issue.

I'm very pleased with this product and glad I purchased it.

I have bought one of these for my office. I have one I rent from a distributer for my home, but the cost of water plus rental fees were getting bad. This way, I only pay for the water delivery. As soon as the local store gets another one of these, I will buy one for my home. I read the reviews, but our water has always tasted fine, maybe it is the kind of water they used.....

We purchased this dispenser and followed instructions to flush water thru system prior to loading in water bottle. The water still had a horrible after taste(like chemical or burnt plastic taste). We call manufacturer who instructed us to run 1 gal water with 4 tsps of bleach to get rid of any lingering odors. We did this multiple times just to be sure to eliminate any odor or taste. THE WATER STILL TASTED HORRIBLE! We decided to exchange for another one at Target, just in case we had a defective one. We did the same flushing method again and still the same awful taste in the water. WE ARE RETURNING THIS SECOND UNIT ASAP! Black and Decker should remove this product from stores all together!

I had the same problem that all the others here did. The water tasted awful. I followed the instructions in the manual and cleaned it several times. I also wasted a lot of bottled water. Nothing worked.

I am glad I logged on and found these reviews and that everyone else had the same experience. This thing is junk. No matter what you do, the water will taste bad. All the water I tried had a weird rubbery/metallic taste. I returned it to the store, without the box and no reciept (they did look it up by my credit card). And they refunded the full amount! :-) Target rocks!

Hope this helps someone avoid all of my problems. I hope Target will pull this inferior product.

I just bought it for 2 days. When I first installed the 5 gallon water bottle I didn't rinse the dispensor beforehand since the manual said it had been cleaned in factory. Only thing you need to worry was the dust that may have gotten in during shipping.
Water tastes like expected, no odor of any kind. water is filled at local distributor.
I did notice the noise of the condensor at first but it was not too loud and was of similar volume to our previous counter top dispensor. And condensor turns off when water is chilled.
I like the looks of dispensor. And it's very functional and user friendly.
I'll keep my fingers crossed on the odor issue that many reviews had mentioned won't happen later.

Shame on me. I didn't read the reviews before buying this unit. It made my water taste horrible. I wasted a whole 5 gallon bottle of water. The loading is HORRIBLE. I spilled water ALL OVER the wall and floor. There's no trick to loading it spill free. You just can't do it. The opening is so tiny. I can't imagine what idiot designed this dispenser. DO NOT BUY IT.
