Works great in van and on motorcycle. This is the 5th Garmin GPS I have owned and each one gets better. This is 1 of 2 that is waterproof 550 is the other. Have not att tested this feature am sure I will on motorcycle someday.

Pros: Good, clear voice prompts. Point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ auto-routing by either shortest or fastest route. The unit is supposedly waterproof. Selectable road avoidances by road type. Choice of Day, Night, or Auto screen color selection.

Cons: PC interface is slow USB (possibly 1.0) so can take hours to update via software download. (USB Data cable purchased separately) Fixed screen colors and contrast can make unit hard to see Setting Day or Night manually may help you in some cases. Auto-hide of details on zoom out hides secondary roads far too soon to suit me. Unit included Topographical map data but no way to turn it off! Lack of custom avoidances for manually entering local and temporary areas you want to avoid. Lacks companion software for use on PC. (Strange that the PC version of the same software, purchased separately, does have this ability!)

Be aware when auto-routing by shortest distance that ANY GPS's routing is only as good as the map data being used. You just might find yourself on a rural gravel road thru no fault of the GPS unit!

If you don’t need the waterproof feature then consider the other Garmin units that may be cheaper and have better screen color & contrast.
