love the piece, frustrated with target

Once assembled this piece is sturdy and looks great! It also was delivered 5 days before Target estimated date.
However, the directions are deceiving. On step #3 it makes you think you need assemble seperate parts of the base first then put them together. If you do the holes will not line up. Put pieces 2,4,8, and 9 on seperately to the base you already have constructed. (I hope I am not as confusing) Two pieces came scratched and the back piece was damaged.
