Since we're hispanic, my mother-in-law gave my daughter this toy in Spanish, I thought it was a very clever gift! but my daughter got very scared with it when it started talking. It took her 3 days to warm up to her new "friend" (after she saw her cousin playing with it). It is fun, with goofy jokes and many features, many of them I am sure I don't know (many different phrases and movements) because it runs out of battery before even listening to the whole speech. Batteries literally lasts for up to 2 hours of playing on and off, not even non-stop. Now it's been in my daughter's room for 3 months with no batteries, first because I know they won't last, so why bother? secondly, because she's still afraid of him at the very beginning .I'd recommend you to buy the rechargeable batteries, or just go straight to the plain plush toy version of Elmo.
