Description

Sometimes it just takes a song or two to fall in love with a band, and while there's no notarized guarantee on their debut EP that Brazilian Girls are going to turn in a perfect full-length, there's plenty of reason to fall in love with them, immediately. The reason there's no guarantee is that the three unique tracks here aren't as much "songs" as electronic and organic jams with hippie chants that are the very definition of loose. Brazilian Girls are skilled enough to play it loose; in fact, it suits them. The dreamy "Lazy Lover" could pass out asleep at any moment, teetering on the edge of not being there at all. Sabina Sciubba's voice is instantly enchanting and her minimal lyrics give plenty of room for groove. "******" really couldn't be a single, since it's simple chorus is "******, ******, ******, ******," but good luck getting this reggae-injected ditty out of your head anytime soon. "Sirenes de la Fete" is very good French spaciness, and the remixes are decent since Herbert-by-the-numbers is still a thrill. Verve's helpful spine note says "file pop/electronica," but that's only because there's no "sumptuous slackers" section yet. You could guess that Brazilian Girls might just smoke ******, giggle, and jam without ever getting to a proper album. If this short EP is their only legacy, they should be mythical in every swank hash bar with a dancefloor until the end of time. David Jeffries, All Music Guide
