Description
It was called "Disney's Folly." Who on earth would want to sit still for 90 minutes to watch an animated cartoon? And why pick a well-worn Grimm's Fairy Tale that every schoolkid knows? But Walt Disney seemed to thrive on projects which a lesser man might have written off as "stupid" or "impossible". Investing three years, 1,500,000, and the combined talents of 570 artists into Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney produced a film that was not only acknowledged a classic from the outset, but also earned 8,500,000 depression-era dollars in gross rentals. Bypassing early temptations to transform the heroine Snow White into a plump Betty Boop type or a woebegone ZaSu Pitts lookalike, the Disney staffers wisely made radical differentiations between the "straight" and "funny" characters in the story. Thus, Snow White and Prince Charming moved and were drawn realistically, while the Seven Dwarfs were rendered in the rounded, caricatured manner of Disney's short-subject characters. In this way, the serious elements of the story could be propelled forward in a believable enough manner to grab the adult viewers, while the dwarfs provided enough comic and musical hijinks to keep the kids happy. It is a tribute to the genius of the Disney formula that the dramatic and comic elements were strong enough to please both demographic groups. Like any showman, Disney knew the value of genuine horror in maintaining audience interest: accordingly, the Wicked Queen, whose jealousy of Snow White's beauty motivates the story, is a thoroughly fearsome creature even before she transforms herself into an ancient crone. Best of all, Snow White clicks in the three areas in which Disney had always proven superiority over his rivals: Solid story values (any sequence that threatened to slow down the plotline was ruthlessly jettisoned, no matter how much time and money had been spent), vivid etched characterizations (it would have been easier to have all the Dwarfs walk, talk and act alike: thank heaven that Disney never opted for "easy"), and instantly memorable songs (Frank Churchill, Leigh Harline, Paul J. Smith and the entire studio music department was Oscar-nominated for such standards-to-be as "Whistle While You Work" and "Some Day My Prince Will Come"). Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

I was excited to see if Snow White was as great as I remembered as a child, and WOW were we impressed with this DVD set. The packaging is sturdy, colorful, and engaging. Inside there are several brochures as well as a colorful and easy to follow DVD guide. As for the movie, the color is gorgeous and the HD sound is crisp and clear. The whole family enjoyed this classic tale. Just the movie and its quality would be enough to get me to purchase this DVD—however, it is loaded with bonus features that kept us busy for hours! The Karaoke Sing-a-Long and “Which Princess are You?” quiz were favorites. There are so many fun games, backstage peeks, and more…your family will love it! I also love the fact they Disney packaged this edition with Blu-Ray AND a DVD. We currently don’t own a Blu-Ray player but plan to have one in the future, so this is a perfect set. We won’t have to “re-purchase” movies once we upgrade. Disney has done it again with a magic story the whole family can enjoy!

Be warned if you play this for your four year old. My daughter is still trying to get over the images of scary trees and the evil stepmother.
I remember loving this movie when I was young and I still do, just be careful if your child is sensitive to dark imagery.

I loved the classic Snow White movie we owned and watched on VHS for years. Now that I have seen the Diamond Edition Blu Ray version, I wonder why I was stuck in the dark ages for so long! The clarity was amazing. This is a true story of classic meets up with technology.

SNOW WHITE AND SEVEN DWARFS DIAMOND EDITION

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was an awesome experience to share with my children. With all the scary movies being released it was nice to watch a movie that you do not have to prescreen for profanity, nudity and violence. I looked forward to reliving one of my most favorite movies through the eyes of my children.
The Diamond Edition release from Walt Disney Home Entertainment brought Snow White to life as never before. One could feel themselves stepping into the movie and experiencing the joy and sadness of their favorite characters. The picture and sound were exceptional. There was not one detail that was overlooked. The bonus features was a nice touch. However, there were just too much to watch in a day. It took me an extra day to go through all the bonus features with my kids.
The Diamond Edition release from Walt Disney Home Entertainment of Snow White came out just in time for the Holidays. This would be a great present for any child under the tree or in their stocking. This movie had lasting positive effect on my children. My teachers son informed me that my son sang “Hi Ho, Hi Ho, off to work I go” as he strolled down the school hallway. She said she was awe struck that he was singing a song from Snow White, but yet it profoundly touched her. I could not help but smile and was grateful to share this experience with my children.

I was lucky to recieve an advance copy of this DVD/Blue Ray combo pack and I am glad I did because I don't know if I could have waited. I loved the movie as I child and I was excited to share it with my daughter. She is 3 and liked it (but we had to skip some of the scarier patrs, but she did not seem to notice. I also love the fact that it comes in a dvd/blue ray combo pack. I have been reluctant to buy dvd's lately because we will be getting a blue ray player shortly, so it seems like a waste, this allowed me to get a blue ray and also have the dvd to watch now. The quality on the dvd was great and we had a chance to watch the blue ray on a friends player and that was even more amazing.

I remember this classic from when I was little and the picture in the diamond edition is so clear. The three pack combo is so neat and all the extra features are just great. This is the perfect movie to add to any collection.

but this is one of those that I could not resist! The combo pack makes it super convenient for mom's on the go. I can have a copy at home and a copy in my mommy mobile. It's every princess's dream come true! :) The movie has been beautifully restored, so much so that you would never know it's as old as it is. We're having a ball experiencing "the one that started it all" over and over again.

Having a six year old daughter means we have to keep up with all this Disney and this movie made for a special afternoon with my daughter. I could share my Disney memories with her and take delight in her being stunned by the animation and all the extras. Parents will want to snatch this one up before it heads into the vault! A complete library of all the Disney classics on beautiful Blu-Ray is a must, I hope Disney will keep up this tradition.
