Three starsWas a good model but...., November 20, 2009
I got very good service out of this model for a little over 2 years of daily use. Then one night last May heating a frozen dinner after 3 minutes opened the door to stir potatoes, shut the door for another 3 minutes and that was that! Dead!! Obviously a power glitch, unplugged, plugged it back in after 10 seconds or so. Nothing.

I came here to buy another just like it but read current reviews at the time and looked like from the first of the year there must be a run of lemons, faster deaths in a month or maybe a year most. Scared me away so started over for a different brand in price range. I loved the handle on door, have long fingernails and hate big push buttons, hard on the knuckles. Had to be the same footprint for my cart, and same watts and height inside for my rice cooker.

Not an eager cook anyway so other features, presets etc not important. This is the only one with 12 inch glass plate. Found only 2 other brands on the web with door handle but had to settle for just 10 inch plate but stainless steel looked nicer, more pricey. If it conks in a year I'll be back to see if Emerson has improved these, I miss mine, but I'd buy another if it had a longer life. Guess I was lucky for 2.5 years the way things are made anymore.

Five starsMy best friend every morning!!, October 24, 2009
After going through 4 4-cup coffee makers in a year and throwing out yucky extra cold coffee or reheated, I bought this 2 years ago. Perfect for me, alone and retired. So I don't "Brew and Go" anywhere, I wake up and "Go" to the bathroom, flip the switch on the way (set up at night)it Brews and in less than 2 minutes I pick up a great fresh mug of coffee and go back to bed to sip and read the news. Spend 1/4 on coffee now, not wasting 3 cups as before.

I wanted to use my own fav ceramic tall mug and it just fits, then it stays warm on the elec mug warmer on my nightstand. The travel mug is used for cold bevs later in the day. Some complain about this mug, well use your own, get a great brewer for less than $.... and a free mug.
I pour water from a small teapot with spout that bypasses a tab handle on the filter holder, no dribbles like using a cup. Or a Pyrex meas cup.I use reg generic 4 cup paper filters, not the mesh one, too hard to clean with no disposal. Paper is healthier with no acid taste or bad fat oils. Leave the plastic basket damp when rinsed and the paper sticks to the sides tightly pushed out. Otherwise any grains spilled outside can clog the tiny hole in bottom and you get a backup mess. No fancy fine ginds, Folgers French Roast or Yuban for me, rich roast taste.
Ran out of coffee this week and does great w/teabag in mug. Just the right temp. for me, no wait to cool down.

If you don't push the On button down til red light stays on, you have to unplug it and replug and start over or you will think it conked. It didn't, that's the only glitch but happens seldom.

Didn't expect it to last 2 years for the price, and think I should buy a spare in case they quit making them. Oh my, what would I do?? I love this little thing, like having a butler.

Four starsWorks bedside for comp monitor, September 5, 2009
I've used mine about 3 years for my pc flat panel monitor as I, can't sit long at a desk. It glides very easily on carpet. My pc sits on floor under it. For bedside it of course slides over from one side a foot or so so I do have to look slightly right not ahead. It tilts a bit from the years of weight, can put a thin pillow under it for real flat level or adjust monitor base to level it. It was very hard to put together for elderly person, adjust height, or fold up for me, takes a stronger hand than mine to push those buttons in holes. Once the right height I leave it be. Soooo glad I bought it. Have a laptop now, but with cordless mouse and this table for monitor it's been one of my better ideas. For sleep, or making bed just slide it back away. Great design, may be a bit wobbly if you are hard on it but fit my needs before I could afford laptop. Buying one for sister now who needs to keep feet elevated when on computer, like me, can't sit long either in straight chair without back and neck pain.

(Looks like lawn furniture tho, go for function!)

Five starsHandy for pasta and rice, soups, stew, December 28, 2008
I cook for one (me), hate messes to clean, this cooker is quite user friendly. Cook up pasta in 10 min with vent closed, few drops of olive oil so pasta doesn't stick, Italian herb seasoning if desired, cooks enough for 4 dinners stored in fridge in same pot, never overflows. 3 minute frozen turkey meatballs and sauce from a jar warmed over pasta before serving.

Not good for brown rice, takes far too long and more water, too much guesswork but perfect for plain white rice, vents open. I add cashews and dried cranberries and more water to soften those along with the rice, dust with curry powder. Never boils over like on stove, 14 min.

Sear chunks of beef in a skillet, then pour in this cooker with variety of vegies, water. Cook your barley or rice in it first before you add your other stew or soup ingredients. Freeze portions in plastic tubs. So easy.

My Chen rice cooker finally cracked and leaked on bottom so I got this as a cheap replacement, I like it better, don't need all those extra parts to wash and held up a couple years so far. I like things I can cook in then store in the fridge. Suits my simple needs just fine.

Four starsThanks for the info re vapors!, May 1, 2006
I love this curtain too, am considering ordering it but hadn't read the reviews and instead had opted for the heavy duty frosted vinyl curtain liner because of the suction cups on each side. It arrived a few days ago and whoa! the same smell, so it must be a common holdback to viny? I'll trust for now that some say it dissipates in days. The vapors are pretty strong even with my bath vent fan running 2 days and nights now. I'll try putting it on the balcony to air. I really like my old fabric curtain so thought I needed either a liner or something that won't mildew with no window in the bath. I use a hand held spray to shower and shampoo and the suction cups on the plain liner made sense to protect the carpet etc. Tub in apt. is plastic so magnets don't work if this has them.

Now I don't know, don't want to double the fumes hanging both this one and the liner. Hope mine stops smelling or it is going back and start over. Wish I'd read here first about the smell but at least I know now it just isn't mine. I still love this design so will watch future reviews and maybe the fumes go away? I'm quite sensitive to chemical odors with fibromyalgia, they should include a warning on the package explaining if temporary or how long it takes if ever. I recently bought a vinyl table cloth and had no problem. I don't know the difference in v and pvc but do know pvc pipes aren't healthy.

Beautiful design, I still want it to replace my fabric one.
