Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat - Hannah
 |
|
So Far So Good... Smells ok..., March 9, 2009 Just purchased and installed in the past hour. I had a huge issue with the smell of the Diplomat in Taylor Fabric, and this Marathon in Hannah does NOT even come close to the smell that was on the Diplomat! It does have a slight odor but it hardly even smells like a chemical more like a box... I have now purchased 5 (and returned 4) car seats (yikes)!
The positives of this seat I have access to the harness adjuster strap (rear facing): , the buckles seem useable (haven’t had a chance to use it yet), it is as solid as a rock, it doesn’t smell like a chemical plant, it isn't recalled (all reasons the other seats were returned).
The Negatives: we have 2nd row captain’s chairs with bucket seats and the bottom of the car seat tends to rest ON the latch connecters (we are using LATCH). I need to get to an inspection station to have them look at it... And the crotch strap seems WAY short! My 15 mnth old is only 19lbs and at the lowest harness setting and it just seems like it should be a longer strap...
I give it 4 stars because of the base sitting on the latch connecters and the short crotch strap. Fingers crossed with the inspection, I will post the outcome.

I can't Get Past the Smell!, February 4, 2009 I am soooo disappointed! I wanted this seat so bad, and with all of the awesome reviews; no one said anything about the toxic smell. I can’t try the car seat out because it smells like a chemical plant! Wow! It is out in my garage and I can still smell it! I am scared that it isn’t safe for my baby to be sitting in and surrounded by the fumes. Is it just me, did I get a messed up one, or does every Britax smell like it was dipped in a vat of toxic goo?! It may be the safest seat in the world but why does it smell so dangerous...

Not sure if I will return it..., January 25, 2009 I wanted to review this on here since no one else has yet… We have the SophiaAnn fabric, from a different store, but the seat it exactly the same. I am still unsure of this car seat. I had my eye set on a Britax, but the store didn’t carry the model and with my Recaro fiasco (check for recalls!) I refuse to purchase a car seat I can’t see... anyway back to this car seat. It is Large but that makes it safer imo there was confusion when converting the latch to rear facing (it comes set up for forward facing) my hubby put the latch OVER the harness straps under the seat, so the harness wouldn’t tighten. He quickly realized the issue and it was simple to fix, but it was cold out and a real pain... I have only used it about 5 times but I do have to say the buckle is a PAIN IN THE BUTT! Just put your kid in it in the store, you'll see! 12 months old and only about 12th percentile I can’t imagine an AVERAGE sized baby… I have NEVER had it take so long to buckle a car seat before and this is our 7th or 8th car seat in 8 or so years... I’m hoping it gets easier with use… All in all it is not a bad seat, so I will give it a couple days and see if it gets better.

scary, but cute..., December 13, 2007 I think this is a dangerous seat without adding more support. I have a Kidopotamus Snuzzler - Head & Body Support under my 5 wk old in the seat otherwise her chin is on her chest and she squeaks while breathing no matter how I put her in it. And yes it has 2 recline positions and is set to the infant one. Maybe this is a nice bouncer for an older baby as other reviewers said, but I am scared she isn’t breathing well when she is in it without the snuzzler. On a positive note, the music is so much nicer than other baby toys and it is cute and girly.

Heavy and Smelly..., May 7, 2006 I purchased this after returning the Dyson DC15 (see my other review) and this got returned too! It was HEAVY!!! So heavy that I could hardly push it across my carpet with all its "suction"... and after I managed to vacuum my entire downstairs it took 2 days with my windows open to air out the smell of Plastic and Rubber, I don't even know how to describe the smell it was awful though! Maybe again I purchased a broken vacuum, or maybe I expect a vacuum to.. Umm.. I don't know, vacuum and not stink up my house or destroy it in any way like the Dyson did.

The Brush Head SCRATCHED my hardwood floor!, April 20, 2006 I Bought the DC15 at my local Target, got it home unpacked and put it together (very simple). And my first push over to an outlet I knew that it was not going to be the vacuum for me! Even without power the head of the vacuum with the brush doesn't lift up at all and as I pushed it the brush was spinning itself and scraping across my floor (made me cringe) and after I had it on it did ok on my throw rugs, one rug gripe: when I pulled the vacuum back towards me it bounced like crazy with the brush on if you need the brush on for your rugs you need to go SLOW. And when I switched the brush off so it stopped spinning and moved to the hard floor I heard the scratching over the sound of the vacuum. I am not sure if mine was just broken, I read a ton of reviews before my purchase (naturally) and no one mentioned this issue at all... I did return it and want to try the DC14, but my Target didn't have the 14 in stock. It did suck up dirt I never knew was there though!!
