rough around the edges, October 29, 2009 Viewed from far away, this is a nice bookcase. The construction, however, is pretty cheap.
The bookcase arrives in seven pieces (top and bottom halves, and shelves). The top and bottom halves attach with four pegs and three screws. The pegs are pre-inserted into the holes in the bottom half. Your job is to insert the bulbous end into the holes in the top half. The holes for the pegs on my bookcase were not drilled large enough. Neither I nor my husband was strong enough to force the pegs into the holes. I ended up removing the pegs from the bottom half with pliers and hammering them into the top half. Then it was easy to put the two parts together. They are not quite flush though - the top hangs over the bottom by a fraction of an inch.
My bookcase also arrived with several scratches and discolored places, but most of these are inconspicuous so I'm not returning it.
If I had to do it again, I think I'd pay more money and buy a higher quality product.

clean lines, solid construction, October 23, 2009 Very pleased with this bench. It was easy to assemble and feels very sturdy. We're using it in our entryway. Shoes fit nicely both below and on top of the stretcher rails.
