What happened to Black & Decker?, December 11, 2008 I was looking forward to purchasing my own Black & Decker spacemaker Can Opener when my off brand under the counter can opener died. The off brand one had been a wedding gift over 11 yrs ago. They don't make them anymore so I asked my Mom what brand hers is. Mom moved into my Grandmother's house when she passed away. Grandma had her Black & Decker for over 20 years, and it is still working great. I purchased this new Black & Decker spacemaker can opener, and I am extremely disappointed.
It is slow. It is supposed to be an automatic can opener, but you have to stand right beside it and hold it till it's done. The cover/lid/shield is supposed to protect it when it's not in use. It's a pain because it does not stay closed and keeps flopping open.
I am so disappointed! Now, I want another under-the-counter can opener, but I don't think anyone else makes them. I am sure a company could make one that is durable and reliable. I was hoping it would be Black & Decker.
