= Durability = Fun = Educational = Overall Beware Only Fun With Peg-Hole Pets Not Magnet Pets, June 26, 2009 LPS has had a long great line of critters and playsets, all (up to now) have worked with tiny magnets in the pets' paw. This set, however, was a disappointment. It would've been awesome - 5stars awesome - had they not changed the design. The three movable attractions on this (wheel, hurdles and jump rope) all will ONLY work with the newest pets that have a peghole in a paw bottom instead of a magnet.
Hard to find. I hear the #800 and up series feature this (look on the box of the critters) - but out of our whole slew of random LPS brand animals NOT ONE of them have this feature.
This set does include two pets, a kangaroo and a hamster that will work with these 3 movable features, but it is frustrating for little ones to try to line up the peg hole to the peg (mom has always had to intervene) and really annoying that the play is limited to just this hard to find line of pets. We have been able to get the wheel to work with lower 4-leg pets like the turtle or lizard, if you turn the wheel SLOWLY.
When opened, it is impressively large, lots to do, not a lot of "dead" space, it seems just about every part has something to do.
Yes it does have a lot of neat features, a "boxing bag", tub, swivel beds, swing perch (works with the birds and butterflies), as well as two portables a locker for storing all those tiny accessories and a snack machine.
The snack machine keeps getting jammed, no matter how careful you are to put the snack packs inside of it, for some reason it just doesn't want to spit those packs out.
We got this at our local Target on clearance for a cheaper price, if it were more than that I would've been really upset for these unpleasant surprises. Before you buy, unless you want to shell out another $5-20 for "friends" - I would look at your current LPS critters to see if any of them have this peg hole on the bottom of their paw.

= Durability = Fun = Educational = Overall Vsmile/Vmotion over Leapster anyday!, November 16, 2008 The Vsmile games are compatible with the new Vmotion system, and the Vmotion games play like regular Vsmile games on this as well. My 4yr old twin boys are NOT gentle and they got a Vsmile and pocket when they were only 3. They play this nearly every day. They are bright, and I think these games helped a LOT. Educational and VERY fun - plus the popular characters are a huge plus. We do not own any extras - just the wall adapter and rechargable batteries, we have NEVER had ANY problems with the pocket system. We have experienced wire-shortage problems with the wall adapters but that is a cheap and easy fix.
We have tried the Leapster games verus the Vsmile games, the games are supposed to be similar but the quality and graphics are of much less quality with the Leapster system. The odd thing, the Vsmile/Vmotion games cost LESS than Leapster, go figure.
I prefer the Vsmile Pocket over the Cyber Pocket system for smaller kids, less to break, I worry about the stylus pen and flip screen being easily damaged - but as for THIS system we are purchasing a second so that each kiddo can have their own!

= Durability = Fun = Educational = Overall Fun until she loses a tail, then worthless., October 13, 2008 This is a very pricey toy. No question about that.
Beware when you open the box for assembly, it is a headless horse. Something you might want to do without the kids watching. They even have the horse's head in a black bag with a warning about what's inside - kinda made me chuckle thinking about a scene from the Godfather...
She is quite impressive out of the box and visiting children will certainly be amazed and instantly drawn to it.
But as far as your children, the novelty wears off pretty fast. She does not move, though she makes clomping sounds. She likes to be fed and petted, but that's about it.
Battery life is good if you start with a quality battery made for high-drain devices - like duracell - we only have had to replace the batteries no more than once a year and she gets left on nearly all the time.
My biggest problem with this pony, my children are pretty gentle but one time while they were making a "saddle" out of a folded blanket, it somehow popped the tail off. I was standing there with them. Completely dumbfounded as to what just happened.
What happened was the TINY fragile wire that is the ONLY part that actually connects the tail to the horse frame severed. Leaving a huge hole in the, well, rear end of the horse.
No way to attach it, forget ever moving again, there just isn't any way to glue it on as there isn't anything for it to hold on to. I have read many complaints about this online, which probably is why Hasbro when I contacted them just offered me a refund.
I would suggest one of the other Furr Real pets, the smaller less expensive ones, you will get the same play out of it (well minus climbing on it) - if it had a price of under a bigger price it would be a better buy. But as it is, for the limited amount of stuff it does, I would save my money.
