Be careful of what you need, August 6, 2007 I ordered this for my eight year old as I have a Pfaff computerized machine and was not willing to take a risk on that. The Hello Kitty machine is limited by two things...there are no adjustments for stitch length (all stitches are close together) nor stitch width (i.e...making zigzags narrower or wider). Our first project was a felt purse and she wished to do a zigzag decorative stitch, which really looked like a satin stitch and took FOREVER to go around a 10 inch square. I returned it and purchased a Singer at Sears for a comparable price with many more features, including length and width adjustments. Believe me, as you get better at sewing and need to baste or do decorative stitching...length and width adjustments are seemingly basic features! Unless you are a diehard Kitty fan, this machine is just not versatile enough even for an eight year old beginner. I would go for a two stitch machine (straight and zigzag) with the length and width adjustments over some of the fancier stitches on this one if price were a great consideration. You really need those features.
